I am very happy that I decided on this buffet. The color is beautiful and once it is all assembled it is very sturdy. It also looks very expensive while only costing a fraction of other buffets. The doors and drawers open and close very smoothly. Fortunately my husband is meticulous and patient because the assembly does require a bit of effort but given the beauty for this price it was well worth the effort. Each part is labeled for assembly and the instructions were very clear to follow. I was looking at a similar piece at Pottery Barn that would have cost me more than 3 times the price of this piece. I will be using this cabinet in a kitchen nook to store cookbooks. It's a good height to drop purse, keys, and shopping bags when coming into the kitchen from the garage. It was shipped in one large cardboard box (pictured with assembled cabinet), and it was heavy. I have a dolly I purchased several years ago to help me move heavy objects, so I was easily able to bring the box inside (if you don't have a dolly in your garage, you should consider getting one). It took me several hours to assemble the cabinet but, admittedly, I had several distractions during the process. All of the pieces (both wood and hardware) were in the box, and all clearly labeled. The written instructions were easy to follow, and only a phillips head screwdriver was required. The instructions indicated that a power drill should not be used, but I got impatient with the manual screwdriver and used the drill in many places. All of the pilot holes were in the correct places, and all of the pieces fit perfectly. It is important to follow the instructions exactly and to also pay attention to the pictures. I didn't pay attention to how one support piece was positioned and had to undo three steps to position the piece correctly. I am a 50+ woman, and I moved and assembled this piece by myself, so don't let the thought of assembly deter you. The finished cabinet is beautiful, heavy, and has the appearance of a quality piece. I shopped for a specific size and type of cabinet for a long time before landing on this one. I looked at furniture stores with fully assembled pieces, but nothing fit the bill until this.     • Looks fine, but takes some effort.
This kit makes an attractive buffet that looks like an Ethan Allen piece from across the room. However, it is not a trivial project to assemble – consider that there are about 161 screws/fasteners/pins to contend with and the wood pieces probably weigh over 100 pounds. I think it would take even a fired-up DIYer over a couple of hours to build. In this regard I recommend a lightweight electric driver (for Philips M3 & M4 screws), a rubber mallet for gently aligning sub-assemblies, and an artist palette knife for removing a zillion stickers that identify the various wooden parts. About wood, the bulk of the assembly is based on MDF (or similar fiber based engineered product). There is little species hardwood that I could identify. The good news is that the planks are flat, cleanly cut, and fit together pretty well. Also, the stained color is a close match for MinWax “Red Mahogany” that I use on other furniture that was purchased as cherry. The bad news is that MDF is very heavy. While not a big issue, it meant that the delivery driver could not possibly carry the package and sort of man handled it in an awkward dance. Not being hardwood also means that using small diameter screws makes the product less robust than more traditional glue, blocking, and larger fasteners. Fortunately, the top, bottom and two ends seem strong. However, the back is cosmetic with negligible strength and the doors have floating panels that are only about 1/8” thick. So, it might be unwise to dance atop this buffet, lest it collapse like a house of cards. Perfectly fine for the intended usage though. ... show more

Pros: 1. Price......paid $371. 2. Style 3. Quality for the price 4. Nice piece of furniture once assembled. Cons: Assembly I wanted another cabinet for storage of dishes, so I found this on Amazon. The price was good, and I liked the style. Reviews said it takes about 4 hrs to assemble. The cabinet arrived in one box, and there was no damage at all. My husband opened the box and sorted and arranged all of the pieces/parts. He put a furniture pad on the floor so that there would be no scratches as he assembled. Once he read thru the instructions, he began assembly. Ten hours and three days later, the cabinet is ready to use. It is heavy and seems to be a sturdy piece of furniture. Hubby was meticulous about being certain that each section went together smoothly. Fortunately, he is patient and attentive to details......and retired. If I had to assemble it myself, I couldn't do it, so I'm glad my husband could. I expect to get lots of use out of this lovely piece. ... show more

I like that each part/bag is labeled to show what is in it. Not easy to assemble, but much better than other furniture I have assembled. The doors assembly was wonderful. The drawers were even fairly easy. Very sturdy and beautiful. Back is just thin sheets of wood, but gave you wedges for back to make more stable. My only problem with this item was the delivery. I’m 65 in fair shape and my front porch is up 5 stairs. Product was to be delivered to porch. It was left at bottom of stairs in the pouring rain. Had to take apart package and take each piece into house. They did not even ring door bell to let me know it had been delivered. I was soaked and all the parts got wet.
