  • Truly nice piece, very happy with it, but no attachment holes in granite top
Color: Cherry Style Name: Granite Top
This arrived packed very well, not a single damaged part. Every part has a label on it that matches a part in the instructions. If you pay close attention, assembly is actually fun. I did not have a single connection that did not line up exactly, I am VERY impressed by that. Some parts have an arrow that shows the direction in which to orient it, pay attention to that in the instructions. I used a ratcheting Phillips screwdriver that I got at Lowes several years ago, it makes putting the drawer screws in easier. Use a drill and the straight hex bit supplied to put in the bolts, and make sure to set your drill clutch so that it won't strip the bolt threads. My instructions said to build the frame first, then turn it over and put the casters on, then turn the entire assembly back over. You don't need to do that, this is a heavy piece of furniture. Put the casters on the base, then build the cabinet onto the base. I had absolutely no trouble at all doing it that way. As for the casters, those little wood screws are not adequate to support the weight of this heavy furniture, especially when it is being rolled around. I went over to Ace hardware after this arrived, took one of the casters with me for size, and spent $13 on (16) 1/4" stainless lag bolts 1" long; (16) stainless lock washers; and (16) stainless 1/4" nuts. I carefully re-drilled the screw holes in the base using a 1/4" wood drill bit, then attached the casters using this new hardware. They WILL NOT tear out of the base like a couple of the reviews talked about. After all was built, I didn't want to trust my 68 year old female frame to get that 75 lb. granite top in place, so I did get assistance from the young man next door for that task. I gave this a 4 review only because the underneath side of the granite top is not drilled for attachment to the supports, no way at all to secure that top to the cabinet. If I push the cart by grasping the edge of the top, which is a pretty natural thing to do, the top slides on the base. I called Home Styles, and they are going to send me a new top, hopefully one with drilled holes. Overall, this is a very lovely piece of solid wood furniture. It is carefully crafted, the finish is very pretty, and the top is beautiful with the cherry color. The drawers are smooth and nicely built, and the 2 cabinets are big enough for my rice cooker, some pans, crockpot, and other goodies. I didn't attach the paper towel holder or rack to this because of space constraints, but I did mount both of them to a wall nearby, and they look really nice. An update after calling about the lack of attachment holes on granite top: Customer service rep, without any hassle, put in an immediate order for a new granite top to be sent out to me. It was here in 2 days! She did not require that I return the 75 lb. top with no holes. My neighbor once again helped me lift it onto the cabinet. All 4 of the attachment holes lined up perfectly. I've now changed my review to 5 stars. ... show more

  • Great Upgrade to previous version of cart with Granite Top
Color: Oak Style Name: Granite Top
This is the second cart with Granite top that I have purchased from Home Styles. I still have and use the old one along the wall in my breakfast nook, but I wanted another one as an island in the middle of the kitchen for storage and counter space. The first one had a number of shipping and assembly issues, though at the end I liked the final product. I did review that one too. With this cart, they shipped in 2 boxes (one for the top and one for the cart) and dramatically improved the packaging, so the stone arrived intact, even though UPS stood it on the end, rather than on the long edge as the box indicates. The packaging also says made in Thailand. The hardware is so much nicer with this cart and the design was improved in that the drawers are so functional. It is great to have a paper towel holder, not just a regular towel holder. The first one is oak but doesn't look as nice and has two really short drawers (not as useful) just under the stone, with 3 door sections, and a towel holder. The assembly of this one is much more solid. The drawers are nicely squared and the material has better thickness so that once assembled, everything is smooth. The depth of the drawers is far more useful than for the other one. There is a bit of a gap on the floor of the cart to one of the sides that I couldn't get completely flush because it butted against the framing, but that is super nitpicking. We assembled it (2 people make it easier) in just a couple of hours. Cleanup after assembly is a bit of a pain because of the static and all the packaging foam. Be careful with the boxing boards for sharp nails and splinters, but necessary to make sure the product is intact. Overall, it is fantastic. Great kitchen cart to add storage and work surface to a kitchen. ... show more

  • Solid, gorgeous kitchen cart! Worth every penny.
Color: Oak Style Name: Granite Top
Easy to assemble, took about 2 1/2 hours. We got the warm oak color. I did it by myself and only needed my husband’s help to put the screws in to secure the drawers. I needed a second set of hands. (Use a power drill for this, a Phillips will take you all day otherwise.) Ok here’s a tip so you don’t lose your mind...my cabinet doors were mislabeled. Someone clearly stuck the wrong stickers on them identifying which part they were. Use common sense if you see something weird like that. They were labeled incorrectly, but ALL the pieces were in the box. Ok, so here’s the fun stuff....the granite shipped separately from the rest of the unit, so you will get two boxes. Our granite came one day and the rest showed up the very next day. It is super heavy. Assemble it near where you plan on using it. I assembled the base in my basement and easily carried it upstairs to my kitchen with my husbands help. He put the granite piece on top. (I thought I was going to be able to pick it up and do it while he was at work, and uh...ya...it’s way to heavy. Don’t throw out your back. Have someone around to help when you do this.) The cabinets have an option to put in a shelf on either side, but I opted to use them for storing recycle on one side and trash on the other. You can do this too if you buy a rectangular bin to store underneath. The cabinets have a magnetic latch to hold them shut, but there is no lip underneath for installing a baby proof latch. I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 16 month old. I may have to find different latches to lock the cabinets. One more tip: be careful when you open the boxes...do NOT damage the boxes. When I opened the granite it was in perfect condition. It comes shipped in a wooden crate type cage inside of a box. However, the “J” piece of the base of ours came damaged. I called Amazon to see if just that one piece could be replaced, and they said NO. You have to return the whole item! Because it was on the base in a place where I could use wood glue and hide the defect (because the damage is inside the cabinet, see my photos) I opted to keep it. Amazon credited me back 20% of the purchase price for the inconvenience, which was $100. But, my advice is to be careful unboxing it in case you have to re-box it to return it! Otherwise, we LOVE our new kitchen cart. It is super solid, well made and the instructions were easy to follow. Worth every penny and I’m sure we will be enjoying it for years to come. ... show more
