Description

The 20" 2 drawer steel tool box is manufactured using the highest grade of raw materials available for strength and durability. Each drawer is includes slip proof mats and ball bearing glides. The drawers also Lock when lid is Closed for easy mobility. This toolbox is secured by a double latch system and also includes a top storage area. From the Manufacturer Homak Manufacturing was founded in 1947 in Chicago by Sigmund H. Danziger. The name "Homak" was coined after a sign that Sigmund saw on a hat store. Originally a manufacturer of steel kitchen cabinets, Homak Expanded its product offerings in the 1960s to included a separate line of hardware products such as toolboxes, tool cabinets, and other accessories. Homak's hardware line remained strong and was accepted in many major retail businesses of its time. Following Sigmund's death in 1979, his wife, Gertrude, ran the company for 25 years. Under Gertrude's guidance, Homak extended its product line with automotive, hospital, and sporting goods. In January of 2005 Homak was acquired by JVA and moved its office to western Pennsylvania. Its facility now resides in the Wampum Underground Commerce Center. Today, Homak emphasizes tool storage and gun cabinet security. The full product line consists of hand- carry toolboxes, tool bags, parts organizers, tool storage cabinets, workbenches, garage furniture, safety cabinets, spill containment systems, P.B & E. products, steel lockers, gun cabinets, fire-resistant safes, ammo storage boxes and accessories. I recently changed my battery to a new one from Sears. I opened first one plastic toolbox and then another as I looked through the mixture of Craftsman metric and ASA tools for sockets and wrenches to make the change. With three toolboxes open and still struggling to find what I needed, I realized that this was ridiculous and had to stop. I checked two-drawer toolboxes at Sears when I returned the core (finally!). They were all a good quality high impact but a little too bulky for me. I like Sears' tools, but I wanted a toolbox that was easier to store and carry. I ordered this toolbox (red with black drawer fronts) a few weeks ago and am highly satisfied. The metal is sturdy yet light enough not to add significant weight. One of the drawers now has metric and the other ASA tools. The drawer action is smooth. Either drawer is removable if needed. The drawers positively snap closed whether the lid is open or shut. The top compartment under the lid is generous enough to store the larger items such as long break-bars, torque wrench, screwdrivers, etc. And, I might add, it looks far more expensive than the price paid. ... show more

I purchased this as a gift for my husband almost a year ago. I did a lot of research on various types of toolboxes in this style and in this price range before I finally settled on this one. I'm glad I did. My husband loved it. The drawers slide in and out very nicely and they come lined with a nice non-slip material. The drawers also don't come flying out as you're lifting the box and carrying it either. He is definitely a handyman and is only just starting a tool collection of his own. This one nicely stores his tools and is also easy to move around. I can easily gather his tools that he leaves somewhere in the house, put back in the box & lift the box myself to put it away so I love it too. I'm sure in the future as he expands his collection we'll have a need for a bigger box but this is a great chest if you just need something that is easily portable for some common household hand tools and supplies. ... show more

This tool chest has served me faithfully for over 2 years. The drawers are on ball-bearings and they still open smoothly to this day. I have heavier hand tools on the bottom drawer and the lighter tools on the top drawer. Its built like a tank, and it is heavy to move around even when empty so dont plan on filling this thing with tools and trying to carry it around with you. You get more than you pay for (about $50) with this box. The drawers are especially good - they lock closed (whether the top is open or closed), and are super-smooth bearing opening, with extending arms that are rock solid when open. Comes with well fitted foam liners in all three levels. They're just high enough that you can generally put small tool containers inside (sockets/ratchet, screw drivers, open wrenches, etc) and keep it very organized. The top level is extra high (nearly 4") to hold a torque wrench case and small boxes - spare Ducati oil filter in my case. The handle and especially the silver clamp locks are a little cheap. I use it to keep my metric tools separated from the rif-raff. Definitely recommend. 2012 update - 3 years later, this box is like new. ... show more

I don't believe I could be happier with this product (even with my one wishlist item granted / unlockable drawers when closed). It is solid, with top performing slider drawers that are pleasing depth, etc. This box, although having a top handle, is borderline too heavy when filled to be portable for most. For our application it doesn't need to move much. It is destined to be a Semi-Set top chest on a column of standard and hobby tools... and I do like its portability. Unless it gets run over, we will get decades of service from it. ... show more

It's a law of the universe that tools will multiply to fill the given space. It's true for this toolbox or the large, $500 rolling cabinets. So if you're worried this toolbox will not be big enough, I'm sorry to say that no tool box will ever be big enough. What this toolbox does offer though is sturdy construction of thick metal, quality locking drawers, and a handle I'm not afraid to use. It will hold every essential tool you'll need to carry to jobs on your car or around your house. I'm glad I spent a little more on a nice, quality product that is build to last and has the space I need. ... show more

First time Homak buyer. Nice tool box for DIY'er or just to store tools(not quite certain how it would hold up for daily use or if I had to transport tools on a daily basis).Pretty basic box design.Looks sturdy but,only time will tell.Drawers slide(glide)nicely but,thinking of oiling/lubricating so they slide even better,all come with rubber lining.Drawers seem small and,if you have quite a few hand tools,I would recommend additional drawer model(this is the 3 drawer model)or,model with larger drawers.Packaging was adequate but, not damage proof. Outer box and inner boxes arrived a bit beat up but,no significant damage to the tool box itself.Styrofoam was provided for the sides of the box to minimize damage in shipping(so glad they did this but,could of used bubble wrap instead of plastic, around the box itself to protect even further),box arrived with a slight bend on one of the latches which locks the lid but,the lid and the latch did secure properly so, no big deal.Would recommend this box if your like me, a DIY'er looking to store tools used every once in a while.Would I recommend for heavy or daily use? not quite certain if I would.I guess you could say "you get what you pay for" here.It fits my needs adequately and for the price, you can't go wrong. ... show more
