One of my fellow Master Gardeners recommended this very Hori Hori. I just used this to plant nearly 1,000 spring bulbs on my property. I found the ruler on the blade especially useful for measuring spacing and depth. There were a few times the wood creaked on me while prying damp soil, so I backed off with the muscle a little, but the full tang gave me confidence that it wouldn't snap off on me.     • Great multifunctional tool
As soon as I opened the box I was surprised at how sharp the teeth are. I would definitely handle with care as it could easily cut through skin. Carefully examining the tool, I noticed it had a nice weight to it and felt good in my hand. The wooden handle is smooth to the touch and rounded along the edge. There is also a nice point at the tip. I would definitely recommend storing in the thick leather case when not in use. I was even more excited that it was marked with measurements, down the middle, for soil depth. This was one of the reasons this particular model caught my attention. I decided to put it to good use and trim my fern's for the season. I have 2 different types of ferns, although I'm not sure what they are called. One is super tall kind of like a fan and the other is shorter more stick like. The blade easily cut through both types. I wouldn't say it glided through but still easier then using shears. I'd grab a handful near the base then slice through easily. I have not had a chance to test it out on a lot of other tastes but I plan on it. For about $20 it's a great multi functional tool. I do plan on updating my review at a later date as gardening season will be in full swing soon. ... show more

I bought thus for a friend of mine who does a lot of gardening. She loves it. She says she doesn't know how she gardener for years without it. It's strong, sturdy and sharp! Has measuring units on the blade and a leather pouch. Very well made.
