I needed this to hold cleaning towels in my laundry room. Shipment was fast. Instructions stated it would take 30 minutes for 1 person to put together. I'm terrible at putting things together so it took me twice that time. I will say that if you follow directions, this case is very easy to assemble. If I had read ALL the instructions before I started, I would not have made the error I did involving the last two steps. Make sure you slide the back panels in BEFORE you attach the second side panel to the shelf panels. I failed to do this and ended up ruining the bookcase when I took the last two steps apart and tried to do it the right way. The particle board is not forgiving and I cracked every shelf because the screws didn't line up the second time around. All that being said, now that I know what I did wrong, I'm going to order a second shelf, put it together the right way, and use the one I ruined to hold shoes/boxes inside a clothes closet. There's nothing impressive about the bookcase but it is as described, perfectly. ... show more

    • Basic storage, shelves not adjustable. I drilled new holes to space shelves but backing is affected.

I bought 2 of these to use in my pantry/laundry room. They are the perfect width in the space next to my washing machine. They also happen to be the same height of the machines too. I planned to use them one behind the other to create deep storage shelves next to the machines. I put the backing on the one at the back, but left the backing off the front one. This setup created double-deep storage. Leaving the backing off the front unit, allows being able to reach through the front cabinet to items in the back. There is a slight gap between the units when I stand them one in front of the other. I considered screwing or securing them together somehow, but they don't move around and I'm not storing anything that will fall through a 1/8" gap, so I just left well enough alone. One alteration I did need to make however, was that I needed to adjust the height of the shelves because large bulk products that I intended this storage to hold, were too tall for the shelf spacing. Not only did I need to store laundry detergent items, but I also wanted to store some bulk pantry items, ie paper towels, gallon jugs of vinegars and oils. Since these are all heavy items, I decided to store these on the bottom and raise the height of the middle shelf. I just drilled new holes for the screws that secure the shelves. I measured and set the new heights the same for both units. I also had to cut the backing on the back unit to fit. Many of these kinds of assemble-yourself units have one sheet of backing that just gets tacked onto the entire back of the unit. This particular unit however, has individually sized backs that slide into grooves behind each shelf. The shelf that I raised needed its' backing to be cut to size. I just scored it using a box cutter, then bent and snapped it to size. This also meant that the backing for the larger shelf, now was too small. Not a big deal for me. Not only was my newly enlarged shelf space on the very bottom, but in my case, this unit was at the back and the gap is not visible at all. In a nutshell, they work perfectly and especially for the price, I cannot be happier. The only con I can mention, is that the screws on both sides of the unit are not recessed and they are clearly visible. The cabinet is white, and the screws are brass colored. In my situation, I'm using this in my pantry/laundry room so that's not a concern, but something to keep in mind depending on where you plan on using it ... show more

I have a weird little cubby closet that you can access from my bathroom. The even more weird thing is-you can access it from a sliding door closet from the office on the other side. So if the closet door to the bathroom isn’t closed and the closet door in the office is skid open … you might just get a show. Such a weird set up. I have wanted to have shelves built in the bathroom side and enclose it. And then use the office side behind the shelves for basic storage. With the cost of lumber so high-I thought maybe I could find a shelving unit that might work and enclose it with plywood. But I ran across this little gem! It was on sale for $42.99 and I had a $5 voucher, so I paid $37.99 for it. It is just a tad wider than the opening, and it was a little shorter than the opening height, so we did build a small pedestal with leftover 2 x 6, which I’m good with because you don’t see it when you open the closet-it took me, a girl with access to any power tool you could want, 20 minutes to assemble with the hardware included in the box! We secured it with L-Brackets. It’s sturdy and mine was in great condition. No cosmetic flaws or cracks/breaks. The box was a wreck and I wasn’t sure how it couldn’t be damaged, obviously from shipping, bit it was in great condition. And you can access the closet from the office side and not be subject to a peep show from the bathroom! It’s all enclosed. It works perfect for the space I needed. I’m thrilled with my purchase! I bought two of these, because at $40 they were a good price - Much higher and I would have been quite upset with what I got. The Pros: Easy to assemble Feel solid and sturdy when assembled Don't feel like they were trying to skimp on screws The Cons: One unit was missing the black surface on three of the shelves Basically all parts arrived dirty (Finger smudges, dust, etc) Many parts were dinged, scratched, or marred. Mostly on the edges but some in the middle. The screws do not go even remotely flush The design is terrible for carpet and will wobble a lot if your carpet is even remotely long. I ended up getting extra wood and hardware to bolt the two into one unit and give the whole thing legs so it sits on the carpet nicely, and while I'm satisfied with the final result, spending half as much again in supplies just to get it to sit nicely on carpet seems like a bit much. ... show more
