This is the second book in a series about consensual non-consent in the private lives of the rich and kinky who can seemingly do anything their sexual hearts desire. On first glance, this book may push some readers boundaries, but Author Silverwood doesn't write purely erotica stories. She writes books that make you think, that make you tingle, that make you cheer, that make you wonder, and make you turn the page as fast as you can because you won't guess how it ends. The first thing I notice is all the "lost" references. Charity is asked by the doctor if she wants to be one of his "Lost Girls," and taken to his island that reminds her of the "Lost tv series." Even meeting the Doctor and the other man who spends time with Charity, Cassius, gives you the feeling that they are all three lost figures...trying to find their way and a proper future. One might argue that after the trauma Charity went through, and the constant kinky gratification that the other men go through with the CNC group, that everyone is scarred in some way. Brought together by fate. And the first thing Charity does on the island is establish how she's not a pushover. A dummy. A mannequin. "This cupboard would not shield me forever, but running and hiding made me a real, live, ass-kicking girl, and not some doormat. God, I hated the idea of being a doormat submissive. I was never going to write I BELONG TO SIR on myself after one scene. I was done with being a sweet, pushover submissive. I smiled into the darkness. I was getting the hang of CNC. Struggles R Us as patented by Charity Smythe." This is what to expect from Author Silverwood. The submissive has a personality. She has created distinct characters here that work well together. Smart characters that like sex and are flawed...but they look to each other for comfort and help. And the descriptive work of things on the island made the story really bloom, since there were very old buildings there! "I’d been imagining a classic English castle tower, with modern bits. The arched timber door on floor three had a ceramic sign hanging on a hook: LIBRARY. The door itself was braced with metal and embellished with artwork swirls and shapes. It opened with a minor creak, despite the timber being as thick as the height of my hand, from wrist to fingertips. Inside was a lovely small library with reading area featuring a sofa and three blue-upholstered chairs. The room was shaped by the form of the tower and had three of those tall windows with stained glass inserts. On the inner walls paintings were hung in baroque, glass-protected frames, along with framed fragments of pages, with words in a language I couldn’t recognize." Author Silverwood does give plenty of yummy sex scenes that makes sense with the storyline, but it also amazes me how she mixes it with her unique intelligence and humor. I read both books. I read a lot of very dark and very twisted BDSM, reverse harem, dual lovers, kidnapping, captivity, non-con and dub-con, CNC and erotica romance books. However, these were pretty much just torture and minds fu*****..this was an improvement from the first book. Chastity has a lot if great characteristics and isn't one to mess with. Unless she wants it. It has more of a potential story line than the first.. Here is where I got lost however.. The ending?? What is it a potential medical futuristic type of ending? It's sort of a let down.. Spoiler Alert!!!! It just is way out there and is she undead? What is undead? I think if that wasn't the ending and the So-called doctor kicked ass and saved her and there was no medical futuristic cure that one has to renew every 20 years then it would have been a 5! However, the writing is very good and although I'm not big on a lot of paranormal reads if Cari writes something that isn't in that genre then I will read it! It's not a lovey dovey romance and ,especially the first is very hard core kink and should be only read by adults. Both are not for those looking for traditional HEA's even in Dark romance books. Which is why I liked these! Cari gives plenty of trigger warnings so if you're sensitive to many of these or offended and read it anyway that's on you ! It's daring to write these books and write them well. Cari certainly has the talent for it! 5 stars overall but for ending.. Not awful just, for me, didn't fit well... ... show more

I do like to read BDSM but this was beyond my comfort level. The needles... too much risk of infection when you break the skin. And the electrocautery gave me the shivers. I worked in the OR and know what those can do, there's no way that's not torture, and it was irresponsible to be writing it in a book. ... show more

His Talisman is many levels of DARK. The author’s warning made me chuckle, but is accurate, so heed it yo. The things Charity goes through..some had me wincing, some had me reading through my fingers, but all of it grabbed my attention. What begins with Charity and Doctor very quickly becomes Charity, Doctor, and Cassius. While I couldn’t understand Cassius’ involvement from Doctor’s standpoint (I mean, there’s a reason but…meh) having the two men gang up on Charity definitely doubled the fun. If there’s one thing you can ALWAYS count on from Ms. Silverwood, it’s some excellent kink. Often of the sadistic variety. And while things become INTENSE for Charity, I was able to enjoy the heck outta it because I knew how much Charity absolutely loved it, even when scared. Especially when scared😉 So if you’re in the mood for some dark and intense kinky times, His Talisman is a must read. ... show more

The second book in this series is just as good as the first with an awesome twist & a little danger mixed in. Again, like His Keepsake, the heat with these three is on fire 🔥 with all the feels. The visuals she writes out & puts in your mind are incredible. Another awesome read Cari 😍

I was really drawn to this story after reading the sample on Amazon, but found it to be too dark for me. This was my first read of a CNC story. The two Doms are hot, but after a while, the feels I was experiencing were replaced by wonder about how people can get off on such severe pain, such as needles and caning until black and blue. That's torture. It makes me think of real-life felons who torture their captives. Not for me. I could not finish the book 2/3 of the way through. I credit the author though.
