Description

Hillman 1/4-inch deck spacer tools are designed to help create consistent spacing between deck boards during deck construction and installation. Proper spacing is essential for building a durable and professional-looking deck surface. These spacers help installers maintain uniform gaps between boards, improving both the appearance and performance of the finished deck. Correct deck board spacing allows rainwater and debris to pass through the deck surface rather than collecting between boards. This improved drainage helps prevent moisture buildup, reduces the risk of wood rot or mold growth, and helps extend the life of the deck structure. Spacing between deck boards is also necessary to accommodate the natural expansion and contraction of wood and composite decking materials caused by temperature and moisture changes. Using deck spacers ensures boards have the proper room to move without pushing against each other or causing deck surface distortion. These deck spacer tools are compatible with pressure-treated lumber, cedar decking, and composite deck boards, making them a useful installation tool for both professional contractors and DIY deck builders. The durable construction allows the spacers to be reused throughout the installation process for consistent alignment across the entire deck surface. Each package includes two deck spacer tools designed to help installers quickly and accurately position boards while fastening them into place. These spacers are ideal for deck building, deck repairs, porch construction, patio installations, and other outdoor woodworking projects requiring precise deck board spacing.

  • Simple straightforward tool for a beginner
This is a flimsy simple piece of plastic. But can give your work a nice tidy finish because it helps you make even spaces AND helps you place your screws nice and evenly. I used this to place some floor planks on my kid's playhouse. I actually used 4 of them (so two packs of this item) for longer planks. It's cheap enough to do so. I'm not sure how it would stand up to heavier work. But then again I don't know if you'd be buying this to be used over and over for years ... show more

  • Nice tool
Pretty happy with this purchase. Its very handy to have uniform spacing where you need it without having to measure anything. I did end up having one of the spacers tear in half but its kinda the nature of the beast when doing construction work. For casual DIY situations these are a no brainer. If you want something for the long haul that will put up with more abuse you may want to look elsewhere. ... show more

  • Easy to use and very helpful!
I bought 10 of these to use when installing 16' deck boards on my 12'x16' deck. It was the perfect amount. I found that not pulling the boards super tight against the spacer was ideal to getting the spacer out after screwing down the board. I used the claw of my hammer to gently wiggle them out. By the end of it I had 5 spacers left with the 1/8" spacer. The other 5 broke off because I pulled too hard and they ripped. Not a fault of the product, but rather the operator squeezing the deck boards too hard. The spacers also really helped get screw spacing correct and the results look REALLY good. Don't use a blue chalk line; it'll stain your wood. Get white if you can. If you're less precise like me, but still want good results, just keep your spacers over your joists (duh) and you'll be just fine. I don't think these would hold up to a professional deck installer day in and day out, but for the DIY crowd, they're perfect. ... show more

  • Handy spacer
This was really handy for spacing out my deck boards when installing. Add painters tape to one end so you aren’t always messing with the orientation every time you move the spacer.

  • Absolute necessity for DIY deck installation
If you're a Do-It-Yourselfer building a deck, these are a must-have. I'm renovating and extending a 25 year old deck, and I installed composite decking on the first 12x10 section without spacers, believing that the Concealoc clips I used would automatically space the boards uniformly. Big mistake. Once complete, the gaps varied widely and looked like crap. So I bought several sets of these clips and used them for the 15' x 12' dining deck, where the gaps are absolutely uniform. I gapped the Timbertech at 3/16", and the Azek trim at 1/8". I even found that I could correct for a slightly out-of-square deck by using these to vary one side by 1/16" from the other side, ending up with gaps that appeared uniform and overlaps that were precisely even. Great product, hugely useful. ... show more

  • Works Well for the price
Works very well, however, needs to be thicker between sizes as one broke off already
