The chair also folds down for easy storage and transportation. The proprietary Highwood high-grade poly lumber used in this product offers the most realistic look of natural wood WITHOUT the headaches of maintaining or replacing every few seasons. This product has been load-tested, per ASTM F1858-98 (2008) standard for outdoor reclining plastic furniture and has a 400-pound weight capacity. Some assembly is required (see assembly guide) and assembled chair dimensions are 29"W x 34"H x 36"D (33lbs). For the easiest assembly, we recommend using a cordless screwdriver/drill or multi-bit handle for the enclosed Torx bit.

These Adirondack chairs with the tête-à-tête table checked every box of what I was looking for. (I did have to buy the table separate on Amazon). We love the connecting table and the size and fit is perfect. These foldable chairs are heavy enough to stay out all the time but easy to fold and put away if desired. A plus is the ability to recline 3 positions. The quality appears excellent, the finish is smooth and the rounded front edge makes them very comfortable to sit in. UPDATE: 8/16/2014 - 3 Texas Summers later... And these chairs are still going strong. These chairs sit in the sun all year long, and still show no signs of fatigue, wear and are wonderfully comfortable in the morning with my coffee. Slight mildew & dirt has accumulated on the white chairs, but a power wash the other week has these chairs looking like new. I am so pleased with them, I picked up 2 more for my patio replacing some junk wicker things that only lasted 1 year. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I recently purchased 2 of these Highwood folding / reclining adirondack chairs for my back patio. Always enjoy adirondack chairs but the wooden ones only last about 3 - 5 years, and the thin plastic ones from box stores taste good to our local squirrels. So I am giving these synthetic wood chairs a try. They go together pretty easily, I was able to get them both assembled in 30 minutes without assistance, but it would have been nice to have a helping hand. About 6 bolts, and 4 screws is all it takes. I did have an issue with one of the 2 chairs, so I contacted highwood, who were very courteous and promptly responded to my request for assistance. The next morning I was able to sit on the patio with my coffee and relax before the hustle and bustle of the day began. Which is exactly why I purchased them. Hopefully I will be able to update the review in 6 months with an overview of how they are standing up to a TX summer. UPDATE: 9/30/2012 - Well the TX summer is almost over, and these chairs are holding up very well. no discoloration, no cracking, no warping - simply comfortable sitting. One great plus of these composite chairs, is they do not absorb sun's heat like other materials. While the white stones these chairs are sitting on get HOT in the afternoon sun, these chairs are still comfortable to sit on (assuming you have cold beverage in hand). ... show more

    • Superior Quality Chairs

I purchased two of these for the back deck of my Maine farmhouse. They required assembly, for which I recommend using a socket wrench attachment on a power drill for ease, but they can be put together with a manual socket wrench. You will also need a second person to assist you with holding a few pieces during assembly due to the weight of the very solid pieces ( a good thing!). The chairs are solid and not troubled in the least by bad weather. No matter what the weather brings in Maine, the chairs are just fine and the hardware is stainless and rustproof. The deep seats and wide arms make them comfortable. You might want to purchase a cushion if that is your preference, but a cushion is not necessary. To clean them off, they can be hosed down or wiped with a damp rag. One word of caution is that they are quite heavy, which makes moving them repeatedly a chore, but hey, we already know they are not web lawn chairs! I plan to purchase the garden bench in the spring. The chairs are not cheap - consider them an investment. They are not going to wear out and will look wonderful till the end of time. ... show more

    • Huge disappointment

For the price, this chair was a huge disappointment. The materials appear to be of good quality, but the manufacturer skimped on construction. The standard-size chair really needs a front brace like the king-size model. Without the brace, the chair is extremely rickety. When sitting in the chair, the arms and front legs are wobbly with the slightest pressure or movement (and I'm a petite person). In addition, the back support requires assembly and the holes are not pre-drilled, so you must be very careful to get the screws in straight. The back support could have easily come pre-assembled because it is flat. At the very least, the holes should have been pre-drilled. Finally, the adjustable back is difficult to maneuver. I expected the back support to be connected to the arms like on other reclining chairs, allowing you to adjust the level of recline by pulling up on the arms . With this chair, you must get up to adjust the back support, and the parts do not glide smoothly. If you're looking for an adjustable Adirondack chair, I would continue your search. ... show more

The good: sturdy; solid (won't fly away in a storm); curved back (more comfortable in my opinion than straight back adirondack chairs); looks good; folds for winter storage; and given the material hopefully it'll last for years. The bad: it is plastic and no matter what you do to make it look like wood, it's still plastic; unless i'm reading the instructions on assembly wrong, they are missing washers in the nuts & bolts bag; and they (four chairs) were delivered on three different days (not a big deal, just a hassle). A word on assembly, I put the chairs together by myself - having two people would help, but is not required. Just make sure you have a square bit for your screwdriver/drill (there are four screws that need to be screwed in a with square heads). ... show more
