  • Very impressed
Size: 3-in-1 Convertible Color: Green/Yellow
I was very surprised with the quality of this 3-in-1 travel bag. I've not always had the highest opinion of High Sierra, they are a good price point brand for what they make, but this bag has me rethinking that. It is very thoughtfully designed and super functional for the traveller. The main bag is more like a small suit case and it has enough room for a well planned week away. The range of compartments keep EVERYTHING organized and divided as you see fit and well protected. The telescoping pull handle is very easy to deploy and is quite smooth. Cheaper bags can be a little sticky, but this one is great. The wheels are also very high quality, smooth bearings and softer wheels that roll like butter. It also has backpack straps stowed away so you can wear the whole unit as a backpack if desired. The straps and back of the bag are comfortably padded too. The day pack zips to the front of the main bag and has enough room for a day out exploring the city or a short hike so you can leave the rest at the hotel or in the car. It is appropriately padded and comfortable and can be adjusted like any backpack. It also has a wide strap across it that can be slipped over the pull handle on the main bag so your dashes through the airport go quickly and you can separate the carryon from the personal bag easily. My ONLY complaint is that the zipper is a little fidgety to get going when you want to reattach it to the main bag. Overall, I'm more impressed with the Hi-Life bag than I ever would have expected. This bag is the most versatile travel bag I've had and is perfect for the lighter traveller that wants a do it all bag. Worth every penny! ... show more

  • Impressive versatility with tradeoffs to consider
Size: 3-in-1 Convertible Color: Green/Yellow
This is a bag for someone who thrives on versatility. If you want a bag that functions well in diverse situations, this is a terrific choice, but if you’re looking for a bag that’s the best possible in a few situations, it might not be the right fit. The build-quality is solid. All the zippers and straps seem solid. While the thread ends could have been cleaned up more efficiently, all the thread parts that matter are well stitched. I’m expecting this pack to last well. The design can do a bit of everything. I appreciate the inclusion of features like a front strap to hold it in place, a roller bag strap to keep it from sliding off if I’m resting this bag on another one, and wheels. The roller handle slides in and out easily. The small daypack is easy to remove. It takes a touch of effort to get the zipper back on, but nothing crazy. I’m sure I’ll get better at it over time. The variety of pockets and sections is fantastic. All that said, I do think there are tradeoffs. As a backpack, I don’t find this bag comfortable. The roller handle tucked away inside leads to a flat back that isn’t ergonomic. Because the backpack straps clip on and can be tucked away, there are clips down at the bottom of the straps that aren’t my favorite. Also, the core weight of this pack is quite heavy for the size. I understand all these tradeoffs, and on some trips, I will consider them worthwhile. The tradeoffs are important to consider, though. Overall, I think this is a terrific piece, and I’m glad to have it. I don’t expect to use it on every trip, but I think there are going to be moments when it’s the perfect bag. ... show more

  • Great backpack
Size: Convertible Color: Black/Blue
This backpack is great! I've used it for over a month now and it fits everything I need. I have taken it on a couple of trips storm chasing and it is easy to get get to my laptop and chargers in a tight space. The backpack is water resistant and does a good job keeping my things dry. I did not use the extra bag feature on the front much, but I did test it out and it came off the main bag easily, and it wasn't hard to put back on. The zippers are and stitching are of good quality, and I like the color of the bag as well. While the bag is somewhat expensive, for the amount of storage you get and the quality of materials, this bag is worth the money. ... show more

  • Very Well Made
Size: 3-in-1 Convertible Color: Green/Yellow
Great bag, extremely well made, nice looking. I had one similiar from 20 years ago that traveled most of South America. High/Sierra makes a good product. I was surprised that it was smaller than my former bag. I'm a large man and it takes more folds for my clothes to fit. Just used it for 5 days in DC and it fit the bill. ... show more

  • Durable & Convertible
Size: Convertible Color: Black/Blue
High Sierra Hi-Life 3-in-1 Convertible Backpack (Black/Blue, no wheels) is super convenient. I got it for travel, but have found that it is perfect for hauling my computer and assorted work papers around. My laptop is an old beast and rather large, but still fits into the padded computer compartment . There is still room for my charger, a mouse, assorted paperwork & pens, snacks, and even a change of clothes or two. When I add the smaller pack to it, there’s room for other travel essentials. I could easily use this for a trip of a few days. It also has a strap so that it can be slid over a suitcase handle. This can then be used as a carry on, while I check the suitcase for a longer trip. I like that I can use the large and small packs together or separately. When traveling, I’m always caught between the need to take a lot of stuff, but not wanting to carry a big bag once I arrive. The straps on each are comfortable. The stitching is even. The zippers appear durable. The material also feels like a high quality material. I really like the black with blue trim. The trim is subtle and works well for a professional adult. I also really like having two water bottle pockets. I always seem to have something that I want to put in the other side, be it an umbrella, extra water, or gloves & a scarf. ... show more
