Description

Fun, funny, sci-fi, raunch in a very capable shooter.

This is a great game as long as you enjoy rick and morty type comedy and banter. I do enjoy that so this review is from that perspective. First of all this is a first person shooter with plenty of platforming and multiple tools to accomplish said platforming that you will accumulate on your journey. You also unlock several guns that have secondary effects to assist with exploration and add variety to your playstyle. All weapons have different and fun personalities, I like Gus the most because J.B.Smoove :)! I've seen a lot of reviews talking about the length of the game saying it's too short and in some of those same reviews they admit to not finding or looking for all the collectables or not upgrading their weapons because they blasted through the game without paying attention. I play slowly and methodically and am always looking for easter eggs, unlockables, secrets and short cuts. I also just spend time listening to the idiotic banter from the NPC's and insane TV commercials, I mean that's what this game is all about and it's fantastic. ***EDIT: I have finished the base game and collected every luglox chest and have 3 more trophies to get. I have over 52 hrs in game which includes watching all 4 movies. There are 4 full length B-movies in the game which is hilarious and I have found myself just taking a break after a boss fight and watching for 20-45+ mins. In my opinion there's a lot of value here, great game mechanics (shooting/ platforming) Fantastic writing and voice acting and gorgeous graphics that are very colorful and vibrant. Now, I have noticed some screen tearing in visually complicated areas but nothing game breaking of course and if they happen to patch it someday visually it would perfect for this style of game. ***EDIT: I turned the FOV slider back to default, I had moved it to 110 when first playing. On default setting there is NO screen tearing. This is a unique game and I have nothing quite like in my game collection. I know I'll be replaying this game for years and I'm stoked to have a physical copy with the DLC on the disc that's just awesome. ***EDIT: Yes the DLC is 100% on the disc, I'm playing it now. Highly recommended!

This game is game of year for a good reason - plays great. Story, gameplay, plot. I bought this awhile back and it is the legit copy of the game

Great game! Super weird. Was a breath of fresh air from the usual rotation. Played it digital on a subscription on my wife's account and bought a hard copy to own and play on my own account. Looking forward to HOL2.

A really enjoyable game.

Wow, I’m surprised how much fun this game is. I got about half way through and started over to enjoy parts I had missed. Once I completed it there was another game to be played which was just as fun. There are some good puzzles trying to get past obstacles and the talking guns made me laugh multiple times. One warning, there is a lot of use of the F word !!!! Over and over and over. So be careful who’s around when you play it. I’m not sure if that can be turned down. It was more humorous then offensive and seemed to fit the play.

Best graphics, super immersive game

This game is super immersive, lots to do very fun! I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 16. Lots of cursing and character drug references to "do a line" in the beginning....the rest is not so bad I'm halfway through the game and I love it

High on Life: A Fun, Weird Adventure… If You Can Stand the Talking Guns

High On Life is definitely a game with a different personality. The story was actually pretty cool, and I liked that it wasn’t afraid to be weird. The idea of humanity being treated like a resource by an alien cartel made for an interesting setup, and there were some genuinely entertaining moments throughout the campaign. That said, the overall presentation was a little too cartoony for my taste. The game leans really hard into its absurd humor, sometimes to the point where it pulled me out of the experience. At one point, they literally have you go to Applebee’s, and I remember thinking, Seriously? Applebee’s? 😂 It fits the game’s ridiculous sense of humor, but it was definitely not my favorite part. My biggest problem, though, was Kenny. I absolutely hated having him as my primary gun. The constant talking and especially the stuttering became incredibly ear-grating after a while. Instead of finding his personality funny, I eventually found myself wishing he would just shut up. I couldn’t wait to get another weapon so I could stop listening to him. Because of that, I also found myself not really caring about Kenny’s backstory. The game clearly wanted me to become invested in him as a character, but by that point I was already so annoyed by him that his personal story didn’t do much for me. Thankfully, the other living weapons were much more enjoyable. Creature was hilarious, and I loved what he brought to the game. And then there’s Lezduit, who was easily one of my favorites. He doesn’t need to constantly ramble like Kenny does—he’s just ridiculously entertaining whenever he’s around. Overall, High On Life was a fun game with an interesting story and a lot of personality. The humor and cartoonish presentation won’t be for everyone, and Kenny nearly drove me insane, but the other guns, especially Creature and Lezduit, helped make up for it. Final Verdict: 7/10 A fun, weird shooter with a surprisingly interesting story, but the constant comedy and Kenny’s nonstop talking made it harder for me to enjoy than it probably should have been.
