They are light enough to allow sunlight through and to be able to water through them. The drawstring works well and I tighten it around the rim of the pot. The only downside is that it's fiddly to keep loosening and re-tighten the bag and awkward to reach up and pick the fruit: it would be easier if it was designed to also open at the top so the bag could be slid up and down to get inside. I purchased 2 orders of these mesh bags to put over my 15 gal. Grow bags to keep bugs and animals from eating my veggies. These bags are very cheaply made, when i put them over my grow bags, they were big enough but 2 if the strings broke as i was tightening them and the other 2, the strings came out of the clip. I was able to fasten them with duct tape which looked hideous but stayed on, not to mention the bags were sewn together with a flimsy stitch. I woke up the next morning and the inside of the mesh bags were polluted with bugs, like the big pincher bugs. Thinking these bugs may have been in the plants i took the bags off, shook all the bugs out and there were alot of them, i put the bags back on, and went to bed. The next day, low and behold I went outside and there were even MORE bugs in the netting than the day before, to the point it looked like a horror movie. There is NO way there were that many bugs inside the grow bags. None-the-less, i shook the bugs out and put them on again. Well that night it rained and was windy, the duct tape got wet, the bags blew off and broke one of my tomato plants. That was IT!! The poorly made bags were thrown in the trash! Needless to say I completerly wasted $22.00. Im not sure what else to try to keep the squirrels out of my plants without harming them and keeping bugs from eating the leaves but I am sorry I wasted my money on these. Look for a different product that does not attract bugs, breaks and breaks your plants. ... show more

Hoping this will hold up and prevent bad bugs from attacking our apple trees: - Drawstring is very helpful - Thick mesh, but transparent enough to let a great deal of light onto trees - It may need some staking so that fabric does not ‘weigh’ on leaves, flowers *We added a few bamboo ones as our trees are much more narrow than the fabric ... show more
