I ordered the 4in and it's a much bigger, and better built thing than I expected. Thick steel sturdy handles . The jaws were straight and machined well. Vice lead screw was smooth . There was a bit of back lash but after taking it apart cleaning up the Gibbs with 400 grit sand paper and tightening everything down and JB welding the round screw retainer in place nearly all the back lash was gone. Think I ended up with less than a ten thousand . The bolt hole pattern Isn't ideal for the circular table on my large drill press. But I could drill some holes if I need to. for the price I wouldn't hesitate to get this. You can hardly buy a basic vice for the same amount ... show more

Very happy with this cross slide, it's solid and easy to adjust. I'm not using it to mill just to get work pieces lined up precisely under the drill press. Very happy with it, would buy again and would recommend.

I was afraid to buy this. I bought a different kind before, and a critical cast iron piece broke in short order. I was a little nervous at some other reviews on this product, but I'm pleasantly surprised. So far - so good. I think it is going to be a great vise

Lubed it up and adjusted the tightness of the rails and it worked pretty good for my project (an unnamed polymer device ;) ). Only two complaints are that one of the handles wasn't spinning freely but I oiled it and messed with it for about 5 minutes and freed it up. The other is that the screws were really dry almost chalky. You can take all the play and slop out of this with the tensioning bolts and you do lose a bit of ease moving the slides but the tension bolts are designed to lock down well. For my first cross slide I'm pretty happy. Again if you lube it and work everything back and forth multiple times it'll actually operate very smoothly! The HFS vise I received was generally well - machined and sturdy. The only glaring problem was a misadjusted shim, which allowed it to move. Minor adjustments and some sanding of the slide rails, and spray Teflon lube resulted in a unit with virtually no slack, handles that spun fairly easy, and little deviation in linear travel.     • True 90 degrees cross slide vise

So far, much better than Harbor freight junk, I went thru 2 harbor freight cross slides, both are not 90 degrees, indication has them at 97-100 degrees! This one 30 bucks more indicates within . 002 what I expect what I need, and yes clean up the dovetails for better performance, still a china product, but machines at 90 at least!! ... show more
