I have chihuahua who take picky to a new level. I’ve had some who were “real” dogs and ate anything that looked interesting. Not these two. About 10 years ago one developed a severe issue from which he almost died. I learned more about dog nutrition than anyone wants to know. But he lived well for another several years. Basically I learned to make their food. We’ve tried all the ones available that are “fresh”- they’ll starve first- thank you. Canned food can become a petrified lump. Wetting dry food can guarantee it will be ignored or shoved out onto the floor where it turns into cement on the floor. Ok, back to cooking. I’m single, love to cook but it’s no fun for one. Not wild about “tv dinners”- well, maybe 1 or 2. Now I’ve gotten lots of nutritional help from their vets but still you always wonder if they’re getting everything they need. So, the suggestion was their home cooked food with the dry on the side. I found this brand about 3 years ago and rotate through all available flavors. That chi who almost died?? They think he developed an allergy to his food. The one he got every day. That was the first suggestion, to change up ingredients as long as they seemed to tolerate their food. This review is actually about all the available flavors. I order the small bags and mix them together. Mine get a meat, 1-2 vegetables, a starch- they like potatoes and the different dried type beans. They might eat the broccoli first since it generally has a little cheese. But they’re going for the kibble between broccoli bites. Then the meat. Almost every meal is a bite of meat, a piece of kibble, back to the meat, etc. I’ve seen them leave part of the steak (nice steak, not shoe leather) and munch on the kibble. Then go clean off their plate a bit later. They turn up their noses at dog vitamins so I end up passing those along to someone with a real dog. If I sprinkle vitamins on their food they won’t eat the food. I called the company to ask questions and spoke with a really nice lady willing to answer all my questions. My kids had their annual health visit in November and got very positive reviews. Very healthy, thick shiny coat, clear skin, active and alert. My only complaint is the size packaging. Since mine go through 1-1.5lbs per month and I mix the flavors, the larger bags don’t work for me. I’m hoping they’re able to offer in between sizing at some point. In the meantime I’ll continue to rotate through and mix together the different flavors. Opening the bags the kibble always looks and smells nice. I’ve never had a moth spontaneously erupt from this brand like I’ve had from other brands in the past. My vet feels they’re getting adequate nutrition at this time. My chi’s are 10 and 11.5 and very healthy. ... show more

My little 10 pound dog is apparently addicted to this brand’s Little Bites chicken and rice flavor, since she did not want any of this duck kibble. It could have been because the pieces were too big and/or hard for her. Even after softening/soaking in some water, she still didn’t want it. The quality ingredients are what got me to try it, I just wish my dog liked it as much. ... show more

I have my granddog. My son is in the Air Force and couldn't take their dog. He can only have grain free dog food and treats. He gets tomato red if he has something with grains . I came across this dog food and liked the ingredients. Much healthier and better for him. Since he's been eating this his skin is so much better. I definitely would recommend this! ... show more

I tried to go cheaper than the $25/week freeze-dried raw food I was feeding my baby girl. The Chicken Little Bites was the food that they gave me when I got her. She never really liked it that much and, as she got a little older, she got very picky about her food. I wasted so much money trying every healthy-ingredient food I could find. I found this one that I've been feeding her and she loves it. She jumps around and is all excited when it's time to eat. It was just so expensive, though, and I figured I would try her old food again. I know she does better on beef than chicken, so I got that. Took weeks and slowly introduced it. She stopped being excited for her meals and would just lay there and look at me. I even sprinkled her old food on top and mixed warm water in, for a gravy. From the first serving, her poops immediately got a little crazy. Still good form and everything, but SO MUCH! She went from a tiny amount just one time a day, in the morning, to half a bag full twice a day.. and she's just a little Havanese. She was miserable. This went on for about a month, hoping she would get used to it and things would calm down. Didn't happen. I was already coming to the conclusion that I would have to switch her back and then it started making her tummy upset. Two days of that was more than enough and I put her back on her old food. Her poops immediately went back down to the tiny bit once a day again and her tummy has been great again since. It looks like all healthy ingredients, but there are so many ingredients. It's just not good for my baby and I won't be giving it to her again. ... show more

Why does this food keep going up in price ?! My dogs love this food especially the salmon one and the wet food. I’m going to have to search for a new brand because 80 bucks for a 23 pound bag is just way out of hand. It was a good run but switching to taste of the wild as it is more cost effective and by the reviews a great brand. Bye health extension I’ll be back once the price goes back to 55 bucks. ... show more
