  • Perfect accessory to wear when fencing stolen diamonds or art
Style: Headband
Thanks to 50 year old eyes, I now own two magnification headsets in addition to reading glasses. My hobbies involve manipulation and repair of tiny hardware parts, including repairing stylish, overpriced European reading glasses frames and other expensive hardware, where a stripped screw or bolt might turn into a permanent loss of hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. The two headsets I use are the (1) YOCTOSUN LED lighted head magnifying visor, and (2) Magnify Labs headband magnifier headset. The Yoctosun is a modern white plastic gadget with built in LEDs for light source. The Magnify Labs headset is the classic 1970’s looking jewelers headset you see old dudes wearing in movies while they check out stolen goods or forged documents in a dimly lit back room. The Yoctosun is almost perfect. Complaints: (1) the lenses are not great - my eyes only focus with them in a very specific small range of object placement, or they make me dizzy. (2) The LEDs feel limited in light spectrum - the light they generate is artificial and harsh, which is to be expected at this price point. But I would pay more for better lighting, so I don’t need to wear a second headset for light. A Nichia E21A in 4500k, or a 219BT-V1 R9080 sw/nw in 4000-4500K would be perfect for aging male eyes that already lose parts of the color spectrum (which cheap LEDs make worse). The Magnify Labs headset is ugly, feels cheap, but fits comfortably, and the lenses are fantastic. TL;DR: Yoctosun - -Fits like glasses, light, and looks modern. -Fast and easy to change lenses. -Built in light source. -Lenses and light source are cheap quality, but…it’s $18. Magnify Labs: -High quality glass lenses -Fits over whole head. Must remove hat. -No light source. -Changing lenses requires adding/removing tiny screws you may need another magnifier to see. -Perfect accessory to wear when fencing stolen diamonds or art. I’d pay over $100 for a Yoctosun like design, with high quality glass lenses, and a quality Nichia LED emitter, but I haven’t found anything like this yet. ... show more

  • Good magnifier. Excellent replacement for an Optivisor.
Style: Headband
I have an Optivisor. Great tool. It came with one glass magnification lens. Overall, it was insanely expensive for what you get -- and the lens I chose is nice, but has very limited working distance, so I can't use the Optivisor as much as I'd like. I got this, and it feels much the same -- not QUITE as well made, but it'll hold up. It also comes with a slew of lenses, so I put one on the Optivisor and use this as a backup. The Quasar light for the Optivisor works on this as well. If this one came with a light of its own with a longer wire than the Quasar, it would be the perfect accessory. ... show more

  • Well made but one drawback…
Style: Headband
These seem to be made reasonably well ( time will tell how durable) and are comfortable to wear. The lenses swap out easily and they include some extra plastic pins should you lose one during a lens swap. Now it’s been a long time since I’ve used this type of gadget but my only gripe would be how close you have to get to the subject matter to get it in focus and I mean really close. I gave these four stars. ... show more

  • Clear vision
Style: Rectangular
It seems to be just the right size for reading. It very clear and focused at various distances from the subject matter. It is my constant reading companion...

  • Solid headband, pleather pad, misaligned optics.
Style: Headband
The band and visor are solid. The plastic is thicker than most of the inexpensive magnifiers. The headband is not real leather, so it gets oily and sweaty in use. I would pay more for real leather. The lenses are real glass with pretty good correction. Unfortunately they are aligned to infinity (parallel) but my eyes are trying to focus at the focal length of the lens. This is a recipe for a headache and eye fatigue. I will try to re-align one with a heat gun. If that does not work, I will have to buy a Donnegan lens to go in there. So far Donnegan is the only manufacturer that has figured out how to properly align their optics. ... show more

  • Useless Junk
Style: Headband
I should have opened the box right away. It was some time after I got it that I needed it and opened the box for use. There was only one lens. Not 4 as advertised. The lens will not fit onto the head piece. The headpiece is stretched out of shape and the lens pops right out. The little knobs that fit into the head piece look sawed off. This headset is not useable. It may have been a returned device and nobody bothered to check the package to see what was in it. Now it is too late to return it. I may as well throw it away. ... show more
