Playing this with my wife and 6 year old son. We have a baby, so planning out a campaign and teaching the rules of other systems takes a lot of time that we don't have. This is a little bit of setup, but very interactive and a great time with no screens involved. Because the game has minis, it is a game in a game. We've been painting them and having a great time. We have acrylic paint pens and they do an awesome job of letting our kiddo have fun without making a gigantic mess or having too much difficulty with paint brushes. The game itself is simple once you get going. The 14+ is really for the 'Zargon' player only. They can guide younger players. My son is not a strong reader yet and gets along perfectly well with only a little bit of guidance on what is on the cards and during the armory portion of the game. With 14 quests, this is basically 30 hours of family gaming and it's very simple to add more quests or redo old ones. The expansion packs look like great value too. This game is a blast! I own the original one from the 90s and this one is higher quality (full plastic pieces instead of cardboard cutouts). It's not hard to learn and will keep you entertained. Just warn the adventures to stick together or there will be trouble. I love the idea that there's a companion app with the game that will essentially play Zargon for you. We already owned the regular version, but we purchased the HeroQuest Deluxe Edition for a family member who wanted the full experience. Let me tell you, it was worth it! The pieces are substantial, high quality, and make the game much more immersive and enjoyable. I'm relatively new to HeroQuest, and the deluxe components are one of the reasons I've become such a fan. The game encourages teamwork, so if you enjoy working together with friends and family rather than competing against them, this is a fantastic choice. I also enjoy using the companion app to guide the adventures and storylines instead of having to create everything myself. Overall, it's a great game and a much better experience than I expected. I used to love playing Heroquest with my friends when I was in middle school. It just as fun to play as I remembered! Except now I get to play it with my boyfriend instead of my school friends. They redesigned all the miniatures and refreshed the artwork. I really like the new pieces. I kinda miss the old artwork. Regardless I love the game! I recommend to anyone! ... show more

What a blast from my past. I still have my original HeroQuest set and just had to get this new version. Everything about it is incredible. The details on the figurines is incredible. Where the original had cardboard furniture with plastic pieces, this he version has detailed plastic pieces. The design for storage inside the box is very near and organized. Much better than the original release ever had. This have is a great introduction board game for younger players or newer gamers that might be looking to get into D&D style games but are out of by the steep learning curve that comes with those games. Definitely recommend downloading the companion app so you can play solo or join in the fun with a group of players. ... show more

I found Hero Quest back when it came out in 1989 and finally in 2025 I found a new group of friends to play it with again. My original game system was getting pretty tattered looking so felt it was time for an upgrade to a new system and this set is awesome. For anyone that is a collector this set came very nicely packaged both inside the actual game box as well as the shipping box, Hasbro did good. This game and all the components are spot on and fun to play especially, if you are wanting something like DnD but perhaps easier to set up and play for a wider age group. ... show more

Nostalgia led to this purchase, as I assume it did for most people who purchased it before me. Finding the original set at a reasonable price is difficult, even when incomplete. The components of the set are all different from the original. All of the miniatures have been redesigned, be they the heroes, monsters, or furniture. However, the gameplay hasn't changed in the least and the designs take nothing away from the game. You won't find Warhammer 40k quality in the box, but the same goes for the originals. The rules are simple and almost anybody can get into the game without much instruction. The most experienced, or quickest learning player should take on the role of the "dungeon master," and can moderate gameplay on the fly. I was too excited to wait for opponents after unboxing and was thrilled to learn that there's a companion app that can facilitate a solo adventure. Since the app operates as the dungeon master, it also eliminates the need for a player to assume that role if everyone wants to be a hero. The only drawback is that it sometimes easy to forget to move your physical pieces and it may feel like you're just playing a mobile game, if playing solo. This game may serve as training wheels for tabletop RPGs for some folks. It didn't have that effect on me in the 90's, but it did cause me to suddenly stream hours of YouTube videos on the subject recently. Perhaps I'll go that route one day. Overall, I highly recommend trying this game if you haven't already. Each quest is good for 1-2 hours of entertainment and you could easily return to it another day with the same group of friends/family. Just save the character sheets. ... show more
