  • My Kayak Hoist
Size: 10 ft Ceiling, 145 lb Max
This truly is a great little hoist. I can lift my kayak (89 pounds) and other things, right from my truck bed, right up to the ceiling. Putting them high enough that I have no problem walking underneath. The rope and hardware are of very good quality. The mechanism work excellent and everything seems very strong. A great device to save your back and do the lifting for you. Just be sure you pick the weight limit size you need for your job. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for!
Size: 10 ft Ceiling, 145 lb Max
Is this expensive? Yes! Does it require additional expense to purchase wooden planks and lag bolts. It part of the installation kit? Yes, about $25 worth. Is it challenging to install? Not if you plan it properly! Is it worth the cost? Absolutely! In summary, I’m very impressed with the quality and how it all turned out. I use it to suspend an 11 1/2 foot fishing kayak over my wife’s car. I did the installation by myself but having an extra set of hands would be ideal, especially for the long 6x2 planks you need to hang across your joists. ... show more

  • Harkin Hoister
Size: 10 ft Ceiling, 145 lb Max
I don't write reviews but had to share my opinion on Harkin Hoister. The product is exactly what I was looking for and meets my expectations. I have a Wilderness systems ATAK 120, boat is 12' 3 " in length. Its widest point is 35" ans weighs 83 pounds. My kayak weighs approximately 120 pounds with rod holders, 2 rods, table, and assorted gear. The lift is well built and works as described. It takes a little planning before install to determine how high you plan to hoist load which directly correlates to distance from hoist gathering point, to eyelet that holds block and tackle. My vessel is easily hoisted and mounts right next to ceiling. It's roughly 21" from ceiling to lowest point of kayak. Kayak is secure while hoisting and lowers with ease with provided hardware. Well Done Harkin! ... show more

  • Not easy at all and expensive
Size: 10 ft Ceiling, 145 lb Max
To the person who said this takes 30 mins to install, screw you. 4 hours, that's how long this took me. Not to add in the time it takes to go to the store to buy the 2x6s and lag screws. Which cost another $40 or so with current prices. I was between this and the garage smart system. Which was double the price, but it's electric and an all in one unit to install. It doesn't make you buy more parts to install. This really is a case or cheaper isn't better. The system isn't crazy complicated, but it just takes time for someone not familiar with these types of things. There's alot of parts to this install process that can be upgraded. For the money. It's pretty expensive for what it is. Your paying for some pulleys and rope. It would benefit with more end user convenience. Like include the 8 lag screws and washers for the 2x6. I'd also like the an easier attachment for the straps and the rope. I could see caribeeners being a good solution. It took me 30 mins just figuring out how to tie that knot and getting it decent. And even my finished product leaves much to be desired as my leveling of the straps looks pretty bad. Also the package should include a tie up for the rope when the kayak is up. I ended up rolling it up and laying it on the floor by the wall. I mean after typing all this out. It's really a bad product to the customer because it requires so much not included to finish it. Only good thing about it. Is once you get it up there, it's pretty sturdy. ... show more

  • Handled both my kayaks placed on a wooden base
Size: 10 ft Ceiling, 145 lb Max
A bit pricey and it did take a while to install but it pulled my two kayaks up to the garage ceiling with ease. Very happy with the design though and the block and tackle hardware makes it fairly easy to hoist your payload.

  • Nice system, but not worth the money IMHO
Size: 10 ft Ceiling, 145 lb Max
I have a 100 lb. vintage wooden canoe I needed to hang from my pole bar ceiling. I spent a lot of time looking at options. When I saw this, I liked the way it was designed. Overall, it's solid. Most of the important parts are metal, not plastic. That's a good thing. The pulleys seem a little flimsy, but they really aren't carrying tons of weight, so I guess that's OK. The webbed straps could be a little beefier as well. The block and tackle is nicely designed. It's very easy to raise and lower the canoe. My biggest complaint is the rope. I couldn't use the included rope. The included length of rope would have forced me to load my canoe 7 ft. off the ground. I had to go buy my own rope because the of the dimensions of my building. So after spending $175 on a lift system, I had to drop another $40 on decent rope. It seems to me that an item this expensive, should include all the rope I need. ... show more

  • Great Quality!
Size: 10 ft Ceiling, 145 lb Max
I ordered the 145lb hoist so I could lift both of my 16ft kayaks to the ceiling. Once I realized using the straps that came with the hoist caused both kayaks to roll to their sides I decided to take another approach. I added 2ea 2x4 with eye hooks and padding. This allowed the kayaks to stay flat when hoisted up. Took a bit of experimenting to see which configuration allowed the best clearance in my garage with 9ft ceilings. All of the hardware as well as the ropes are all high quality. You definitely get what you pay for. ... show more
