We have a terrible problem with raccoons wanting our chickens, so I basically have to build a fortress to protect them at night. Chicken wire of course doesn't work at all; the predators just claw/chew right through it. I hadn't tried 1/2" hardware cloth before but found it much easier to work with than 1/4". I've installed this around the main coop, the run, and laid panels of it underground all around the perimeter of the fort. I have a security camera pointing at the fort, and watched a big raccoon make an attempt right after I installed the wire. He had no chance. I watched him struggle for awhile, then let the dogs out just to give him some more to worry about. I feel very secure about the girls after installing this at the coop. Be aware, the roll from Amazon is quite heavy, and springs loose aggressively when you release the binding wires. ... show more

Let's start with the bad: 100 foot rolls are heavy and awkward to use at first. On the plus side, it gets easier to manage the smaller the roll gets, and when you cut small pieces off, they are pretty easy to use. Good thing bunnies can't climb like squirrels. My plant would be in real trouble. I used to watch the rabbits duck under the plastic fencing as if it was not there and our flowers were gone before they bloomed. The deer had no shame in pushing down on the fence to eat the hydrangea blossoms. Not any more. 60 inch garden stakes holding this wire in place, why chicken wire I have no idea, no chickens attacking my garden. The bunnies cannot get it up and the deer can't get it down. With 100 feet in the roll and a stake very 6 feet or so, I say to those critters - Make my day... ... show more

Now the only thing we need to worry about is leaving the darn door open. The main problem was that the roll is so heavy. But after rat-proofing the chicken coop, the roll is manageable and there is still enough wiring to reinforce the chicken wire around our first floor outdoor deck. Fifty pounds for the full roll can be awkward to handle but it is great to have 100 ft to work with in making any length you need. The wire measures around .038/.039 inches diameter which would be a 20 gauge with galvanizing and is similar to what I got at the local box stores. We have had problems with rabbits, ground hogs, racoons, skunks, deer, fox and other critters in the garden and around new trees. I cut off lengths of this and use plastic cable ties to hold the ends together to make a barrel shape then anchor the wire around trees and plants. Four feet wide also allows us to bend it to make row cover for lower growing vegetables like cabbage or cauliflower. The last couple years we've also had heavy frost damage to plants and young trees so we are going to use this hardware cloth as a support for plant cover fabric to provide frost protection. ... show more

Got this 100ft roll delivered to use multiple ways. Made self cleaning rabbit cages so I would cutoff 5 ft at a time. I lost all my tulips and hostas to I assume moles in the ground so made wire cages and planted new ones inside them also put this on the bottom of a raised bed for vegetables for extra protection. I have my chickens in a chain line enclosure and something was still getting i assume a rat. Installed this four inches in the ground and on all sides for ultimate protection. Hundred ft roll is kinda hard to work with but now everything is seamless. Wire is stiff enough to install without wrinkles so I’m sure it’s durable enough for a few generations of chickens glad I got this ... show more

Super heavy-duty hardware cloth - even just moving the roll is difficult, its so heavy! I used this to reinforce my rabbit enclosure and Im confident now that nothing is getting to them! The extremely small squares will confidently protect my bunnies and the metal is very solid and strong.
