  • Decent rotary tool for the price but don’t lose the teeny tiny chuck screws
Right off the bat my impression was, I didn’t know a rotary tool could be so small. It works surprisingly well and is comfortable to hold. I used it for sanding and polishing a small resin creation that had some rough areas around the edges. I do have an issue with the teeny tiny chuck screws (*see pic). I am a klutz prone to dropping and losing things. To switch out the accessory, you need to loosen these 2 screws (but be careful not to let it come all the way out if you’re all thumbs like me, or it may be a challenge to get that lil screw back in its place). I guess that’s the sacrifice you make for such a small cordless tool. There are only 4 extra screws included, which given how small they are and prone to be lost, may be an issue down the road. Otherwise, this tool has been functioning well for my uses with small craft projects. ... show more

  • Un-usable. Avoid at any price.
Well hey, this looked cute. And I'll probably never use it. I just spent the better part of a half-hour TRYing to get a single bit into the collet, and failed. Unlike other such tools, there is no collet lock, it rotates away freely. There is also no handy way of loosening or tightening a bit in the thing. Rather, they include 5 TEENY little hex-head screws and a single hex wrench just marginally heavier than a large paper clip, and you have to insert one of the near-microscopic hex screws onto the tiny hex wrency and then TRY to screw it into a freely-rotating hole while also trying to hold a bit in. I'd say that if you are unfortunate enough to wind up with one of these, get someone young with good eyesignt to put in the pit you're most likely to use, and then leave it there, or better yet just give it to them. I doubt this will last long, only as long as it takes to lose the miniscule hex screws, and I had to go looking on the floor for 2 of the 5 already without even getting a bit in. I'm tempted to wonder just what contraction of words the "Hardell" brand stands for, and I now think I know, they just left out the middle of the descriptive sentence. There are a number of included bits which might be useful... in some other tool. They come in a plastic box, but you'll need a rubber band for it as it won't stay closed and wants to spill whenever moved as it pops open. I'm sorry to have this, sorry to pay taxes on receiving it, and sorry for the time I'll never get back trying to make it work. This might be an OK value at 2 bucks for the accessories. At the 30 bucks it's being sold at as of this review, it's wildly overpriced, because again, most people won't be able to get it to work, and it's seemingly designed to be difficult and for the necessary parts to be lost. You can likely find a better one for a third the price here on amazon, and check for a collet-lock button and an easy screw insertion chuck. Terrible item. ... show more

  • No grip; takes a long time to change bits
This isn’t worth the money. It’s a terrible design that will ultimately cause more frustration and lost time than anything. Tools are meant to enable the user to accomplish what they previously could not, or enable them to accomplish tasks faster or more efficiently than before. This rotary tool may give you new ways of sanding, polishing, and cutting (like every rotary tool), but it does so by asking you to sacrifice huge amounts of your time. That’s because it has a terrible chuck system that requires the user to unscrew TWO tiny screws in order to tighten the bit. I’m pretty dexterous, and I’m very mechanically-minded, and it still took me at least three minutes just to change bits. Imagine how long it would take to move up through grits while trying to sand something. Have you ever been unsure which bit to use, and so just tried multiple ones until you found the best one for the task? That simple practice on any other rotary tool would take seconds, but you could devote an hour to finding the right bit if you used this rotary tool. It just takes too long to change them out. It would actually be funny if it weren’t so sad, because the tool is otherwise quite nice. The speeds are adequate, and it seems like the torque is directly related - meaning torque increases as you increase speed levels. If you’re used to a dremel (or equivalent) in which torque is relatively constant, then you may not like this approach, but if you’re new to rotary tools then I think this is a great way to become familiar. There’s very little to grip here, though, and any extended use may result in you feeling like it easily slips around in your fingers. This could be dangerous, and it’s something to keep in mind. Overall, while I believe this could be a useful starting point for people interested in rotary tools, I don’t think it’s worth the cost. The minimal grip and horrible bit changing makes this an almost unbearable rotary tool to use in practice, and I can’t recommend it. ... show more

  • tiny, but replace bits is the pits
This is a decent tool with enough power for light-duty jobs -- think crafting or delicate work; you'll not be using this for heavy grinding, and it won't replace a dremel. Still, in that niche, it seems to work reasonably well. The real hitch is the miniature screws required to change bits. These things are near microscopic and require excellent vision and hands much smaller than mine. I used jewelers lens and forceps to do it, and it took way too long. I thought my objections would be to the motor or battery life, but both are fine (for the level of jobs this is appropriate for), but it's really the inability to change bits that kills this for me. ... show more

  • Decent for the money
So far this has worked flawlessly at higher speeds. The lower speeds don't seem to have enough torque so unless you are using it on something soft more then likely you will need to keep it at level 6. Comes with everything shown but don't expect this to compete with a Dremel other then being much cheaper. The battery seems to last long enough for smaller projects. ... show more
