Style: 2D82 II
I purchased this oscilloscope to be a dual purpose device – for automotive diagnostics, and general electronics troubleshooting. Its specs suggested that it is a quite capable performer in both departments. In reality, it is more a sophisticated toy than a useful tool: 1) Its specs promise 250 MSa/sec (when only one channel is used) assuring sufficient resolution. However, in reality its sampling rate relates and extremely rapidly degrades with increase of time scale. Its promised 250 MSa/sec hold true only in 5 – 200 nsec time scale, than quickly degrades to 1Msa/sec @ 100 µsec, and further to 1kSa/sec @ 100 msec, and laughable 2 Sa/sec @ 50 sec scale; and as an aggravation on an insult to 0.1 Sa/sec @ 1000sec scale. These specs were obtained from scope’s PC software. Why such degradation is practically unacceptable: in real world of troubleshooting, sufficient length of time history of signal is very important. For example, it is very critical to see more than one fuel injector spike on screen in order to detect slowly changing or intermittent instability of its operation. As a result of such low sampling rate the fuel injector signals (as shown in Pic-1) are displayed as a literally vertical lines as acquired in “Auto” setting mode. The voltage amplitude of injector coil is also jumping up and down, and falsely suggesting defective components. Recording this waveform in memory and zooming in resulted in also useless staircase waveform as shown in Pic-2. Forget about seeing a “Pintle Hump” or any other details. In other words, waveform accuracy in the mid – high time scale is not accurate at all; unless it is a perfect periodic signal such as sin wave from build in signal generator; and in a play with tool mode… And the resolution gets even worse when 2nd channel is used, since sampling rate reduces 2 times per oscilloscope’s specification. 2) The buttons layout is designed for maximum number of button presses per time: the voltage and the time scale functions can’t be changed (what is logically convenient) with up-down, and left to right buttons at once. The Voltage scale is only accessible by pressing “Channel” button, and the time scale is only accessible by pressing “Time” button. I will spare your attention from further details of inconveniences of such layout. There is also literally no “Return” button or functionality, and some utility screens are staying forever without visual indication, or needed to be waited to be exited by time out, or oppositely some very important function modes will prematurely quickly time out without user input. More I used this tool for real troubleshooting, more inconvenient and aggravating these quirks have become. 3) Having only 2.8 inches in diagonal screen, it features beautification items such as borders & boxes, and as result the microscopic fonts. Making things worse, there is low contrast purple over black fonts of time scale parameters. I have not seen such a readability nightmare on any of others competitors’ products with similar in size, or even larger display. Reading screen quickly, or in a bright light environment is eye straining and near impossible. 4) Mathematical engine of this oscilloscope is rather primitive than unsophisticated. The mathematical signal processing in virtual domain is seemingly not existent in this device: the frequency reading disappears when full period of the signal is being zoomed out of the screen. Strange changes to signal rise & fall time values (only available with PC software) were happening upon time zooming. Does it literally use screen picture for all mathematical calculations??? 5) The multi-meter was falsely reporting zero Ohm resistance of automotive wiring, where my $6 HF purchased multi-meter reported more believable 0.2-0.6 Ohm of resistance. There also no fuse protection for high amperage range measurements, no mV in AC range, no µA in DC range, no Min-Max or Peak Hold options, no manual measurements ranges, or bar graph available… 6) Customer support was consistently ranging from no response, slow response to deflection, while trying to address some of the aforementioned concerns. Based on the aforementioned experience, and given that Hantek does not have any official representation in the US (if I am not mistaken); I am not hesitant to conclude of not having any support at all. Important to mention that the listed above is not complete list of this oscilloscope’s high ranked deficiencies. There was a big grief with its PC software, absence of software & firmware upgrades/fixes, and many others… In my review I was not trying neat picking on a budget device. Its oscilloscope functionality is lacking many features and options of more expensive devices – factoring its price, there is no critique for that. But for the hard earned money of the customer it shall deliver true usefulness and basic functionality. And in my view, this device fails miserably to deliver on its cost. ... show more

  • Apparently good quality
Style: 2D82 I
I'm really not a good choice to write this review because I purchased this to "Learn" how to use an oscilloscope. So, my opinions will be limited to what is apparent to me now: The quality seems quite good, the unit is very solid and fit/finish is good. It should be noted that the kit does not include a basic clip type probe so that's an additional $20 expense if you need one. It does come with a good assortment of BNC to banana type cables and some very interesting automotive ignition diagnostic connectivity. There's a lot of functionality stuffed into a small package so the menus can be pretty involved in order to get all the functions imbedded into just a few buttons. In general, I think this is a very good value for the cost. I'd buy it again if I were in the market. ... show more

  • Hantek 2d82auto
Style: 2D82 III
Was shipped timely and in good condition. Worked right out of the box. A hint on driver function... download all the files and open them. You will find a "read me" file with instructions to download an app. Download that app completely. Then delete the hantek files and reinstall them. There will be some app permissions to bypass, but it will work. It took me about 3 hrs to figure out the issue ... show more

  • Just a very versatile setup
Style: 2D82 III
It is easy enough to use after reading all the instructions and if you have any trouble there are many youtube instruction videos. I have already used to diagnose a missing ECM fuel injector pulse for injector/cylinder number 3 on my sons 2004 Corolla. So Considering the Toyota dealer mechanics were leading him towards Catalytic problem which would have cost over $1k and had already charged $1k for air cleaner spark plugs etc miss diagnosis; I would say this has well paid for itself already. And that is only one of about 80 built in tests this model can do for sensors, etc on a car. ... show more

  • Do not trust the break out cables
Style: 2D82 III
The connectors on the female side of the cable are pulling out of of the rubber insulation. I just put the male banana connector in the female side and when I went to disconnect the connection the female connectors started to pull out from the outer insulation.
