The media could not be loaded. So, first off, it’s such a pretty design, and easy to fill, and sturdy. However, the product picture is photoshopped and misleading. The birds in that picture would have to be 2 inches long! For real birds, the railing to stand on is much too small. I have seen cardinals use mine, but a blue jay just tried and— bless his heart— he kept trying over and over but he was just too heavy! He finally got a bite by hanging on the bar like doing a chinup and stretching his neck forward, but after that he gave up to pursue easier food. If you are looking to feed finches this would be great! On the upside, no crows are going to bully all the other birds at the feeder. And no squirrels have gotten to mine (and I have a ton of squirrels…) Update: OK, I’m updating to 4.5 stars (rounded to 5) — cardinals are visiting regularly, and cute little finches love it. When leaving seed out on surfaces, the finches never seemed to feel safe enough to come eat. I hung this feeder high up, from the branch of a tree. Little birds seem to feel very safe eating from it. Picture of a cardinal so you can get idea about size. Third update: going up to 5+ stars! The cardinals and finches absolutely love it, AND the bluejays have figured out how to use it! (Video attached.). The squirrels have also figured out how to get the seeds— by hanging from their back feet from the overhead branch and stretching down to grab some seeds. I bought one just to help the little birds in my area get through this coming winter. Once I put it out I realized that one isn't enough! I had so many birds, and bird fights, I had to buy a 2nd one. They are very easy to fill, and very sturdy. I don't have the fear of the top popping off after I fill it. I will probably need a couple more, it has brought a few other types of birds I haven't seen before in my yard. Side note: If you have hummingbird feeders nearby you may need to move them a ways away, because they wouldn't feed with all the other birds so close. And... Buy more birdseed it disappears fast!!! ... show more

    • Awesome squirrel proof feeder, but only tiny birds use it

This is just a great squirrel proof feeder. So easy to use, easy to clean, and very attractive. Squirrels, which had seriously been eating or tipping out most of the seeds from my platform feeders, haven’t even tried to get near this. (I have bought several pricey squirrel baffles, only to have the component that holds them up become useless after a few months, with no way to replace just that part, so was sick of wasting money on them.) My one disappointment is that it’s quite small in terms of the perch, so only the very tiny birds in my yard use it. I love cardinals and usually have a ton on my platform feeders, and they have checked it out from the top of the pole and rejected it. Bummer. Would love it if they made this in a bigger size! ... show more

this is a nice little feeder, easy to fill and clean, doesn't really need to much cleaning except when it rains, the seed becomes wet in the tray and clogs the holes that are supposed to drain water. in my opinion there is no such feeder that is squirrel proof. squirrels are very good at getting to the seed they jump, hang from their back legs and stretch themselves right down to the tray with the seed. get a baffle to hang above the feeder. this works well. try to hang the feeder, any feeder, away from where they can jump up to or across to for access. they really do fly. ... show more

    • Easy to close lid

My other feeders had weird ways to close the lid and most of them broke, I like how this one closes you just snap it shut and I didn't have to assemble it at all. Just pop open the lid fill it up and snap it shut. It's plastic but its cute, I enjoy seeing it out my window. Edit: I had this feeder all summer and also a larger taller feeder. Mostly all my birds preferred the bigger feeder and hardly used this one at all. I think it was because the taller feeder had more space and was easier to land on. Also, part of the perch broke off somehow- maybe a squirrel tried to use it I don't know, and the lid where it opens and shuts cracked a little. Anyway, I ended up just throwing it away tonight, I won't be buying another one- going to order another large size feeder. ... show more

I love that this feeder is just the right size for my shepherd's hook without looking crowded. The latching lid is my favorite feature; keeps chipmunks and squirrels from getting inside and taking all the seed.
