  • Compact and made in USA
I ordered this a few months ago and used it all summer. It's a great compact net for when you don't want to carry something too bulky. Although Handy Pak makes cheaper compact options, I ordered the top of the line with ghost rubber nettings, teak handle, and leather pouch. The ghost rubber is safe for trout and hooks don't get snagged in it easily. Teak and leather were my preferences since they are natural materials (biodegradable). The cheaper options come with a plastic handle and vinyl pouch which I prefer to avoid. Did I mention that this is made in the USA? It wouldn't surprise me if any of its components are imported, but you take what you can get. The net folds nice and compact, and springs open quickly. Folding is very easy once you get the hang of it. I'd suggest practicing at home for a few minutes before going out to your favorite water only to get frustrated trying to fold it back up. If you are having trouble folding it, youtube is your friend. One drawback with this net is that the frame is a bit flimsy. For small fish, it's definitely sturdy enough. For anything larger, the frame flexes noticeably when trying to lift the fish out of the water. Any trout over 12 inches or so should probably be best kept in the water after netting it, or else the frame might flex too much (i.e., keep fish and netting in water, and frame above water). Another issue with this net is that it can pop out of the pouch, especially when bushwacking or climbing over boulders and such. This happened to me without me realizing it, and my net was lost to the river. I had meant to tie a leash on it, but never got around to it. Since I still had my leather pouch, I wrote the company and asked if they could sell me the net without the pouch, which they were happy to do. Great customer service! I just received my replacement a few days ago and I immediately tied on a length of parachute cord to the hole in the handle to serve as a leash. I don't plan on losing another net! The Handy Pak is not my only net. I have other nets that are larger, or don't fold down. If I am expecting to catch larger trout (16+ inches), I will usually carry a larger sturdier net. But when I'm doing a lot of hiking high up in the mountains, where a 12 incher is considered a trophy, the Handy Pak is what I take with me. ... show more

  • The bomb.
I have the world when it comes to nets. This is the best and perfect net. Is it the most beautiful, no. It is the net that you will have you. Which is beautiful.

  • Great retro folding net
I had been looking for a better way to carry a net while wade fishing when I came across the Handy Pak net. Unlike nets that dangle off your back or get tangled in brush this net sits in a compact leather pouch and is very secure. I can use it with a sling pack or waist pack without difficulty. It deploys quickly and after some practice can be folded back into the pouch. The Ghost rubber netting seems easy on the fish and does not snag flies. I'm happy that this 1950's design is being manufactured again. ... show more

  • Love it!
Great net. Took a while to figure out how to collapse it but I got it now. Only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I felt it needed a securing strap over the net on the holster to prevent it from possibly falling out. It is in fairly tight but didn't want to take a chance so I took the holster to a leather shop and had them attach a quick release leather strap over the net. Much better now ... show more

  • Handy Pak Net-Ghost Series (Rubber Netting)
I had this type of net years ago and was looking for another park net that I could wear on my waders along with a folding walking staff. Pros: Grab the handle, pull it out and presto a full net for netting the fish. Rides close to the body. Doesn't snag on things walking through the woods or on the banks. Appears to be quality made, although I have only used it 5-6 times. Love the rubber net. Saves the fish for another day and hook doesn't snag in it. Cons: Only potential con is that you need to read the directions and PRACTICE folding the net. After a couple of minutes of practice it is easy to fold it and place it back in the park. But if you don't practice and follow directions you will get frustrated quickly. ... show more

  • Impressive Customer Service
I ordered the Handy Pak-Ghost series net and after one use I noticed a small crack at the point where the steel band entered the handle. I became concerned that with time the crack would grow. I emailed the "Contact us" link one evening and to my surprise I received a response that same evening. I explained that I had noticed the crack and expressed my concern. I also explained that I was due to go on another fishing trip to Colorado in 4 days. The representative not only offered to replace the net but express shipped it to me in two days. The replacement net worked flawlessly. Thank You Handy Pak!!, I'm a big fan. ... show more

  • Fantastic Net
Great portable net. Well constructed. Folding it up to put back in the holster is tricky at first. (watch a you tube video). The holster is super well constructed of veg tan leather.

  • A solid gift for the fly fisherman who has everything else
I bought this for my boyfriend for Christmas after I saw him eyeing it out. He was over the moon when he received it and said that it is perfectly practical. It is a little bigger than i envisaged for a belt and would probably be cumbersome to a smaller individual but was a good fit for him (he’s over 6ft). It was well made and the leather looks durable and of good quality. ... show more
