54mm dosing funnel by MATOW, is a perfect addition to your beloved Breville Barista series. It significantly reduces the mess and difficulty of loading and tamping. The funnel attaches to the top of the portafilter with a simple twist for easy use hands free! This model includes a trigger button to press the grinder activation button. With this dosing ring you can now have spill free grinding with no more mess to clean up after grinding! Simply put the funnel on top of the portafilter and twist it to place. Now just use the grinder like you would normally would - put it into place and press the button to activate the grinder. After you're done grinding you can use the tamper to tamp right through the dosing funnel! PLEASE NOTE: Use auto grind mode you need to press into the trigger until the trigger button unclicks. This funnel is ONLY compatible with the 54mm portafilter with the trigger on the grinder. If you have the models without the same grinder you can buy our 54mm dosing funnel without trigger. This is really simple - ground coffee takes up a lot more volume compared to the size of the portafilter. You need something to get the ground coffee into the portafilter for tamping. The short review is that a dosing funnel has been a game changer for me. Read on for more info. I have a Breville Barista Express. Here's what I've tried... I first tried grinding directly into my portafilter. I always make a double shot and 18 grams of ground espresso makes a mountain. I would carefully slide the portafilter off the holder and use my hand to guide the grinds into the portafilter and then tamp. Result: 20% of the grinds spill. Then I had a bright idea. Set the grinder for a single dose and deal with a mountain that's half the size. Tamp that. And then grind another single dose on top. Tamp that. Result: 10% of the grinds spill, but it takes twice as long and I think the tamping on top of a tamping creates a layer in the portafilter that results in inconsistent shots. There has to be a better way. I tried a dosing cup - it captures all the ground coffee just fine, but transferring it into the portafilter was inconsistent. I put the portafilter upside down over the dosing cup, flip both together, tap/shake the cup, and then remove the cup and hope the grinds have settled into the portafilter. Often times, the grinds pile up on one side and when you remove the cup, the grinds spill out. Result: 5% spill at best or 25% spill - very inconsistent. I next tried this dosing funnel. The dosing funnel twists onto my portafilter easily. There is actually a good bit of clearance. For some reason I was expecting a tight fit, but there is no issue here. The funnel is not coming off. The tab on this dosing funnel fits my espresso machine perfectly and activates the grinder just fine. The funnel captures all of the grinds. It is really easy to push the tamper right down through the funnel and get all the grinds into the portafilter. Twist off the dosing funnel and it's a perfectly packed portafilter. Result: 1% spill and quick and easy This dosing funnel is nearly perfect. I do have 4 minor complaints... 1. The top half (the funnel and the 3 tabs that stick off) are very well machined. In contrast, the bottom half (the slots that interlock with the 3 tabs on my portafilter) are thinner metal and the cut edges are a little sharp. This isn't too much of an issue, but the difference in fit and finish is noticeable. 2. When the funnel is attached to the portafilter and I push it into my machine to activate the grinder and then release, the weight of the portafilter handle opens up a slight gap between the top lip of the portafilter and the bottom of the funnel on the side facing you. Some grinds go in there. After I tamp the grinds and twist off the funnel, there may be some grinds on the lip that spill out. This is a very small amount. Nothing compared to what I routinely spilled with a dosing cup. If the slots where the portafilter twists into the dosing funnel were cut with a tighter clearance, the gap that collects the grinds could be eliminated. 3. Price. This isn't cheap. But it is a very good product. An absolute must for anyone using a compatible espresso machine / grinder. 4. The dosing funnel attaches with a counter clockwise twist. It comes off with a clockwise twist. That's backwards. I get this wrong a lot. (Hey! I haven't had my coffee yet!) ... show more

I have a breville barista express and I always felt like a made a huge mess because you have to pack in SO much coffee to get the right pressure. I usually had to hold a rag under the portafilter during the grind to keep coffee off of my counters and floors. Finally broke down and bought this, and it instantly fixed my problem. Fit right onto my portafilter and worked perfectly with the grinder on the barista express. Should have bought it sooner! ... show more

    • A bit flimsy for the price
I had an issue with it not staying on very well, like others, but the metal is thin enough that I was able to use pliers to reduce the gap and make it secure on the filter. I'm glad I was able to secure it, but I'm a bit disappointed the metal is so thin. Also, the trigger for the breville grinder only works on one of the 3 tabs, despite them looking almost identical, and it's not marked. I ended up putting a dot on it with a sharpie, so I make sure that faces forward and presses the grinder button. Overall, considering this one cost more that quite a few others, I'm a bit disappointed. I spent the extra on a metal version hoping it would last longer, but as flimsy as it is it probably won't. I don't think I'd buy it again without revision. A bit more strength and why put 3 tabs if only one works? Make all 3 work or get rid of 2 of them. ... show more

    • Good tool for the espresso machine
I like that there's little mess. It doesn't work perfectly with the Barista Express grinder with just a push. I have to lift the handle on the portafilter a little. Small annoyance, though.

This works pretty good. I had to modify the opening with silicon to take up the wiggle room in the slots. Well made but loose until modified.
