  • Clear and sturdy at an attractive price
This is my second Hammers scope and for the money I think these are a good optic. The reticle is easy enough to see and not so thick as to obscure the target. The mount is chunky but works if you have a dovetail, and it include a removable recoil stop pin. I'm using this on a picatinny rail so had to buy separate scope rings. This is a compact scope and the eye relief is a little short so there isn't a lot of room to move the scope forward and backward within the scope rings, so keep that in mind (i.e. depending on your rifle you may need offset or cantilever rings/mounts). ... show more

  • Loving this scope!
I bought this to replace the 4x32 that came on a Beeman Silver Kodiak. The rifle was eventually returned because it was shooting 2" to 3" groups at 10 yards. I replaced the rifle with a Gamo Whisper Fusion Mach 1 that came with a Gamo 3-9x40 scope. I mounted the Hammers scope on the new rifle instead of the Gamo scope. During the break-in period I was getting some groups of 1" to 1 1/2" and decided to try the Gamo scope to see if there was a problem with the Hammers scope. This just proved what a nice scope the Hammers is! The Gamo scope was impossible to adjust for a clear picture at 10 yards. After shooting a few groups at fuzzy targets I put the Hammers scope back on. My groups have gotten better after a couple hundred pellets and point of impact is holding nicely. I can use the full 9x magnification at 10 yards and still have a beautifully focused picture. I don't have any experience with other scopes except the factory Beeman and the factory Gamo but this scope is just a whole different ball game than those two. Edit: After about 1250 rounds POI started wandering. I thought it was the rifle but then yesterday a diagonal black bar appeared in the scope. After that the picture got real fuzzy. I reluctantly put the Gamo scope on the rifle and groups immediately improved. Trying to decide now whether to get another Hammers scope or go with something else. 2nd edit: I ordered another Hammers scope. On the new one the windage adjustment was very difficult to turn. I was going to live with it but finally decided today to send it back and get still another one. The new, new one will be going on a PCP rifle so hopefully it will last a long time. ... show more

  • A really nice scope, possibly with one easily fixed problem
I am very pleased with this purchase. The sight was easy to install on my Gamo .22 caliber break-barrel air rifle, which has the 11mm mounting grooves. This sight was a replacement for a previously ordered and returned unit of the same kind, and turned out to have the same problem with elevation adjustment. It was unable to move the point of aim higher than about 6" low at 25 yd, at maximum elevation. Based on other reviews, this may be a systemic design problem of this rifle/sight combination. You may never experience the problem with another rifle. My solution was the similar to another reviewer's; I put a 0.010" shim under the scope, in the rear mounting ring. This brought the point of aim within the adjustment range of the sight. The unit-body mount also has an stop stud, adjustable via a hole in the rear mounting ring, using the same hex wrench as all the other screws. The stud is oversize for the manufacturer-supplied hole in the receiver, but the beveled end provides enough grip to work for me. I have run about 200 rounds through at this time, and the sight is showing no tendency to slide on the dovetail, nor does the point of aim drift. I haven't had a chance to put the rifle on a bench at an indoor range, but it looks like the scope+rifle combination should hold at least 3/4" groups at 25 yards, under those conditions. The pellets I'm using are Benjamin .22 caliber round nose "Discovery" pellets, weighing 14.3 grains. The optical quality of the view is surprisingly good for the price; I love the mil dot reticle, too. It is better in all other respects than the 4x32 that was part of the package when I purchased the rifle. ... show more

  • Update: Destroyed itself within 80 shots
UPDATE: Below is my original review. This summer I wasn't hitting my target and re-zero'd the scope. I found I was hitting about 6" low at 25 yards. I set zero, confirmed with a three shot group and the third shot was 6" low again. Scope will not hold zero and is junk. Recoil from a nitro piston .177 (Crosman F4) destroyed it well within 80 shots fire, probably closer to 50. Do not recommend. ORIGINAL REVIEW: So far so good. This scope replaced a very cheap scope that was included in the box for a big box store nitro piston air rifle. Amazingly that cheap scope lasted around 300 rounds before losing zero. First thing this scope is heavy. VERY heavy. If you are doing a light weight build or a hunting rifle and don’t want to tote a bunch of weight then this one might not be for you. Mine is for plinking and pests so the weight doesn’t bother me. Adjustments are tactile and positive. Magnification adjustment is firm and gives a quality feel. 3-9 power is probably overkill for my .177 but better to have and not need than need and not have. I generally leave the power at 5 and go about my business. Zeroing the scope wasn’t an issue once I got the mount tight. I put a slide stop on it and also put some Vibratite on the dovetail itself. Once secure it zeroed right away and has held zero without issue. As long as it holds up to the violent recoil of the nitro piston gun it is a winner for sure. I’ll update this review as time goes on. ... show more
