    • Enclosed hose defective
The enclosed garden hose couldn't handle 40 PSI. One end detached from it making it useless.

    • Makes a difference in our laundry.
EDIT: The hose did fail within 3 weeks by leaking around the connections of hose to brass. A crimp on the hose is covered by shrink wrap and not accessible to tighten and I still don't trust the quality of the hose. I replaced the female ght connection on the tank with a male ght connection. From there, a dedicated laundry hose (ght female on each end) finished the setup. It is not leaking now. Heavy! Made of a fiberglass tank with a base attached for standing upright, a lightly padded fabric cover for aesthetics, a hose to connect to a water source. It arrived already charged with salt. I hooked it up to our laundry machine for a trial run because, as my dear wife says, 'this hard water is really hard on our clothes.' The handle is easily lost from the connectors, so I didn't add it to the softener. I wish I had and will when I begin to add my own embellishments. The supplied hose is floppy and kinks, so I don't give it the same credibility as a dedicated laundry machine hose. It firmed up when it filled with water pressure though. If this soft-water experiment is successful, I'll replace their hose with my own. I tightened both of the bottle connections as they seemed a bit loose and I could move one without a wrench. After that, installation was as simple as any laundry machine. My dear wife tells me that this water softener makes a difference in our laundry. It is presently connected in the hot water side of the laundry machine. In the future, I may also experiment with connection to the cold water side. ... show more

    • A must have for traveling in our RV!
We have a water softener system at our home which has really spoiled us. However, for a long time now we have been without any way to treat the water when traveling in our RV. Well not anymore with this product! The water at many campgrounds is a "take what you can get" situation, but at least having a portable water softener like this one really helps improve the quality of the water wherever we go now. The unit is compact and very easy to connect in-line between the water source and the inlet on our RV. So far, we have noticed a big difference when using this unit during our travels, so I highly recommend it with the top rating! ... show more

We previously ordered the H&G Lifestyles portable water filter that looks exactly the same as this water softener. We were impressed by the reasonable cost and the handy-sized filter housing. We are also impressed by this water softener for the same reasons. The compact filter housing is small enough to stash in an RV compartment with both ports sealed with the included caps. The handle that is attached to the inlet and outlet provide portability. The size is small enough to be manageable while not being too large to hoist. The tank is made of spun fiberglass and resin, just like larger versions of home water softeners. The included hose is a very pliable PVC rubber and allows for you to daisy chain from the filter housing into the softener housing before entering your RV. Although we like our water a little harder than most softeners render, this unit allows us to manage the incoming water from various sources (campgrounds). Our setup includes a disposable prefilter cartridge at the source, a short hose feeds into the H&G filter, another short hose into the H&G softener then into the RV. We intend to make a little bracket to house the assembly to prevent tipping filter housings, though these H&G cans have a stabilizing base to keep them upright. Having a consistent high quality water delivery system that is compact and serviceable makes for a great camping experience. ... show more

    • Don't open this in the living room
I wanted to see what the internal filters look like so I opened this up when it came. If you do that, the resin will go EVERYWHERE. It vacuums up easy enough and is food safe, so not really an issue, but don't do it anyway. It turns out there are just strainers on the inside-no real filter, so you'll probably want to put an inline RV filter or such ahead of this. As far as I can tell, this is just a mini-version of a residential water softener, without all the auto-recharge parts. You recharge it manually by opening it (OUTSIDE) and pouring in 2 pounds of salt, mix it up and let it stand for 2 hours. Flush it for a bit and you're done. They also say to backflush this periodically. There is no gender changer included which is a big failure. You can't backflush without one. If you store this for a time, the instructions mention sanitizing the softener, but they don't give any indication of how to do that. Nice heavy tank, with a good cloth casing and a carry handle. Brass fittings and covers. Appears well made, and considering the media/resin is replaceable, this should last for many years. Looking forward to see the difference next time I have to fill the hot tub. ... show more

    • Nice mini water filter!
These water filters are great because they last a long time and you can clean them out by just reversing the water flow. This filter is a little smaller and lighter than Most other similar filters like this and it even comes with more adaptability for different installations when you taking to consideration that included accessories. This will slow down the flow a little bit But I recommend using it to top off your tanks and then loading your tank do the rest. I keep a UV purifying light in my tank as well so the water stays clean with no chance of growing any bacteria as I try to avoid bleaches and chlorines as much as possible. These filters definitely soften the water a little bit too which is good for your hair and skin but also makes it easier to dry off out of the shower and helps dishes dry as well.
