  • 4 Stars or 5? Some slight nit-piks
Size: 31” Wireless Motor Camera Slider
The package came complete with all required parts and everything works. No problems. When you first unpack it and get it running, you'll probably complain about the noise. It's quieter on tripods or some other surface. Full speed is kind of loud and full slow is pretty quiet. Of course, for time-lapse, none of that matters. For video, I would either use a shotgun mic or off-body mic. You shouldn't be using the in-camera mic anyway if you care at all about sound. The nit-piks I have are: at the slowest speed, it's still too fast. The trolley can go from one end to the other (31" model) in 2.5 minutes. It would be great to see that be 10 or 20 minutes instead. That would translate well to time-lapses. As it is, there is no way I can get 300 photos squeezed in in one run at a reasonable interval. The shutter (labeled Camera) output port sends a signal when the motor *starts* an interval, not when it ends. That means when trolley starts, the signal is sent to my camera (Fuji XT3) to take a pic. So, that's useless. I would like to see it send a signal when the trolley motor stops, so it's motionless when the camera takes a pic. As it is, I have to do math with the intervalometer to try to time when to take a pic. This could have been way easier and pretty much why I subtracted a star. (The trolley moves in discreet steps in time-lapse, but smooth, continuous motion in video mode). I'll never use Panorama mode since my cameras do it so well without the extra setup. The software/controller. Don't expect to go out on a shoot without practicing with the controller first. There's no real logical workflow. There's a lot of jumping around. Hitting ESC commits a value, not ENTER. ENTER should be labeled SELECT, then it would make more sense. The bluetooth connection can take awhile to connect. The bluetooth target is called GVM. I had no idea how much bluetooth is in my neighborhood, so that label was very useful. When you get a hang of it, it works, and ultimately, that's what I'm after. The phone app is better, but only because it's more responsive. The workflow is the same. It has sliders to set values and my i(phone) connects quickly. I don't find myself using the included controller anymore. The battery lasts forever in the controller, but if you're concerned and you have the slider on loop that's going to take a long time, you can actually turn off the controller and the slider will continue to operate as programmed. Of course, when you turn it back on, you have to reset your start and stop points again. There is no means to store any user data at all. The panorama angle of the center bar gives more than enough angle. It's a great mechanism. The big motor batteries last a long time (I haven't test how long though, as I'm always charging them) and you can swap them out one at a time while the slider is in operation. I feel the documentation is incomplete. I don't know what the RJ-45 connector is for. I had to trial-and-error to figure out what the 2.5mm jack labeled Camera was for and how it worked (see above). The docs describe what things are, but don't describe how to use the device. My Fuji XT3 with lens is under 4 lbs, so I can't comment on how much weight it will push, but it pushes my Fuji fine horizontal, inclined, and vertical. If all other sliders were spec'd like this one, I'd buy it again, but if I found one where the trolley travel was significantly slower at the slowest speed, I would buy that one instead. So... it works, and it works as described. But it could be better. At this price-point, it's actually quite awesome. ... show more

  • 4ish+ stars just a couple downfalls so far...
Size: 31” Wireless Motor Camera Slider
OK- I have video experience. Not a cinematographer. I have produced a feature length documentary and have 30+ years of photography experience. I have had this for about 3 weeks. Quality seems very good for the price point. It sure beats my other attempts with leftover rollerblade wheels and a PVC pipe:-) Remote is slightly confusing- when you first try to use it one can become quickly confused as it looks like a calculus formula. So I moved onto the app and that was easier. The remote functions and I use if for basic use. Programmed filming is done with the app. The largest downfall is that when adjusting the center rod for pano/ track shots there is no ability to place it back into a center position without several test runs to see if your camera is veering off. If they had alignment arrows or better yet a notch that put it dead center after that use I would easily give it 5 stars. Buy? Yes! This is a good slider at a good price. If you appreciate only T*, Zeiss, Leica and are ultra picky this might not be for you. I do shoot with all Leica lens and have shot Hasselblad for most of my career and I really like this. ... show more

  • Powerful Slider & Reasonably Priced!
Size: 31” Wireless Motor Camera Slider
The media could not be loaded. This is my initial review for the GVM Video Slider, and I'll continue updating it as I use it. The perfect slider in my opinion, I like the ease of use with this GVM video slider. so easy to set up. It's very quiet and as long as you're not using the in camera mics and your boom or lavalier mic is a few feet away from the slider, you shouldn't have much trouble with motor sound. I don't recommend placing this on a tripod. At 48, it starts to have balance issues toward the ends. But when I put this on a pair of slider stands, it works flawlessly. The bar direction thingy takes a little getting used to but once the learning curve is overcome, it works fine. After about 3 shoots, I got pretty good at operating it. The case is designed to hold everything quite nicely. It even comes with a battery which I found to be very thoughtful. I love that this slider is full of professional features at a very good price, you can easily control it from your phone so incase you lost the included controller you can just pop your phone connect it via Bluetooth and voila you're good to go, I love that it has no shakes or stutters whatsoever, every camera I've placed on this slider produced a buttery smooth shots , I just love it and for the price to quality ratio this is a must buy in my opinion great value with good quality build and you can't go wrong. overall, I like this slider and it's way more economical than some bigger brands. I highly recommend it. ... show more
