  • Guitar: Pentatonic and Blues Scales, By: Joseph Alexander
This book; "Pentatonic and Blues Scales", marks the 18th book by Joseph Alexander, that I have purchased. There's a definite reason that I have bought all these books by Joseph, and that reason is because I am a self taught guitarist and I have found his books to be the most helpful and effective in my quest to learn and improve my guitar playing. I love the blues, and Joseph has created a wonderful selection of extremely helpful and informative books on this genre, (as well as others) that really offer anything that I have ever had a question about. His offering of so many available sound tracks and audio examples is another fantastic teaching tool that I appreciate greatly. In my opinion, his consistency in superior methods and messages are second to none. I highly recommend any of Joseph's books to anyone who is serious about learning guitar. ... show more

  • Kindle edition audio files are great!
I really loved this book, it's the perfect mix of written instruction and audio examples. Sometimes it can be hard to follow a tab, especially a "blues" tab and understand how it's supposed to sound but with the audio files right at your fingertips in the Kindle edition, you know exactly what you're trying to learn. The explanations are very well written and easy to follow but I think the lessons themselves are the best part. I felt like I learned a lot with every exercise and being able to put the lessons to use almost immediately with the backing tracks proved how good of a teacher and author Joseph Alexander really is. ... show more

  • Superb value and instruction
I have been wanting to pick up the blues for some time and have been looking for a good starting place. I grabbed a copy of this based on the great reviews of this and the author's other books. It's great and it's great value too. The quality of presentation in the book is fantastic and I don't find it overwhelming or confusing even as something of a novice to this. It keeps me interested and the challenge is there as well through the lessons. Great book. ... show more

  • Another excellent work from Joe Alexander.
I've been studying Joe Alexander's books for years, now. This is his latest, and it is a "refresher course" drawn from several of his previous books, reorganized to facilitate review and learning with some new and fresh ideas and licks to assist the learning process. I consider Joe's books a must read for all serious blues guitarists. I've also looked at his Jazz and Rock works, and they are equally instructive. This book is absolutely as expected -- an excellent study guide, and will not disappoint. ... show more

  • This book is concise and easy to understand
I am a self taught guitar player. Later in life decided to quit being a hack and learn some theory. This book is concise and easy to understand. Authors enthusiasm for music comes through.

  • You don't need this book. Same material and more for free at many sites.
This info is all over the internet. Book appears to be an ad for other books the author wants to lead you into buying. Not impressed. No color scales. Just single pages containing one line of TAB/Scale. My impression of this book will likely steer me away from any further books from this author. There is a reason you can only view the cover and intro. If you saw the material you wouldn't dump money after it. ... show more

I have been playing guitar for 6 months now. After reading this book it helped me improve dramatically. It helped me understand the fretboard and how to play. The information is presented in a simple and straight forward manner that makes it easy to understand and easy to learn. The additional free audio's that come with the book additionally help with the presented material to hear it and also make it your own. I would highly recommend this book to anyone beginner or intermediate. ... show more
