  • Simple yet complete.
Does not cover EVERY conceivable topic but does the most need and does do quite well. Also written with some humor which on occasion is funny.

  • Awesome resource
This is a great resource that collects and updates the prior 8-in-1 edition of the Dummies‘ guitar books. Highly recommended. Couple of notes: 1. This edition omits the chapters on song-writing. If that sort of thing is important to you, I’d buy the prior edition. Also, paper quality and print quality has gone down, drastically. 2. The new edition contains a new chapter on fretboard learning. I think it’s terrific. 3. the current and prior editions do not give you several dummies books in one. Instead, you get compiled excerpts from those books‘ opening chapters. E.g. the blues guitar for dummies book is excerpted here but only contains the first 80-100 pages—for the rest you have to buy the full Blues Guitar for Dummies book. So, if you’re a beginner unsure which direction to take your guitar playing, this book is solid gold and great value. But if you already know that your main interests are with just one of classical/rock/Blues/jazz guitar, I’d skip this and buy a Dummies book dedicated to just that. ... show more

  • If you are
Reference book for when you already have a couple of chords under your belt. you still need a teacher for this a reference an A GREAT one at that. I purchased this and thought this was the greatest teacher for me (silent) no grading, just look at pics and play "HELP", or maybe int the still of the night. but alass, it works like an automotive reference book after you think you know, or do Know but just want too look back for your own second opion. ... show more

  • Best guitar book I've read. Dummies' books work!!!
I have 8 music books right now, this one has been the easiest and most helpful, mainly because you have music notation examples coupled with the tablature, and the audio tracks to play along with the examples. And it starts for begiiners all the way to mote advanced. Excellent book.

  • Great beginner guitar study guide
Really easy to get through and very informative for the beginner student. A lot of extra items on line as well!

  • Love this book!!!
As someone who literally had zero experience with a guitar this book has been my saving grace. I can now play chords, read tab, and I'm starting to get more confident with jamming with my friend that inspired me to pick up a guitar in the first place

  • Need easy to grasp knowledge for guitar..this is it.
Just what I needed. In the yr since I've picked up guitar, this book gives me something I can understand. From the first page I knew my search for resources for learning guitar was over.

  • Good book but photo quality is poor!
I haven't had much chance to really get into the book yet, but the first thing I noticed was the photos are very poor quality. The photo of the electric guitar is so dark, the guitar can hardly be seen. The rest are hard to make out and unclear. I expect more from a company that prints so many volumes of books. The book overall, seems like it will be very useful and informative. ... show more
