    • There is so much potential here, but basic things don't work

I love the parental controls. The app is not very intuitive but you can work through it (although I wish I could control it from a computer which it would make it much easier to manage a bunch of devices). But the big problem is no matter what I do — even turn off all the parental controls and malware, it blocks iOS devices like iPhones from verifying iOS updates. This is horrible. I've tried everything. There support doesn't seem to work at all — I've tried multiple times to get support with no luck. I'm feeling very disappointed with my purchase at this point, but there is nothing else I've found with this level of parental control. ... show more

Setup takes a bit of time (1-2 hours), and requires a phone app. There is no browser based setup option. Not terrible though, considering all administrative functions are available in the app as well, even when off the local wifi net (cloud based). I use a set of two at a small office and a set of two at home. Setup does allow me to configure two separate instances of these with one owner. Both work flawlessly. For the small office environment, the security features are great as well (prevent unknown connections, track traffic history). At home i use none of the advanced features, but just enjoy pure, hassle free, high speed wifi. The best technology is the tech you never notice. I purchased this router to upgrade the Gryphon router that I've had for three plus years. My old Gryphon tower still worked great but our home needed to upgrade to WIFI 6 capability since we commonly run two or three zoom sessions and four or five tablets at the same time. There are five of us in the household with remote school, field service, meetings and others uses. The new Gryphon AX is great! We're getting consistent 450 mbps download speeds maxxing out our ISP. I recently upgraded my router from Gryphon first-gen router to their AX router and am happy with network coverage and performance across the entire house [ ~2000 sqft ]. It also provides network coverage to security cameras outside of my home on all sides, which was a pain before. After taking advantage of all the features from the router, I would like to emphasize three significant attributes. Basics: I bought the router and was able to get it in less than a week, thanks to amazon and Gryphon. Thanks to the Gryphon team's new application, the installation was a straightforward process, which provided intuitive features such as speed tests, parental controls, and security scans. I wish to have more features to minimize the transition between screens for adding devices to a personal profile, but this is just a wishlist, and I have raised it with the Gryphon team. review: 5/5 Network Performance: My wife and I are busy attending zoom and hangout sessions with colleagues in our home, and the kids are busy attending classes from home. I don't recall any instance where I had to restart my router or complaints from my kid or wife mentioning wifi not working. I even tested speed tests from various corners of my home and attached screenshots from web page-based and mobile applications. In most scenarios, I received downlink speeds of about 375 - 500mbps across the house using my iPhone, but with closed doors and running a test from the farthest corner of my house, I received about 40mbps though my experience didn't affect. review: 4.5/5 Parental and Security: With young kids at home, this has been a concern all the time, but with filters and security port scan features from Gryphon, it was effortless and seamless. I cannot reveal the brand name, but one of the security cameras I had had open ports showing its vulnerability, and my router was able to point out [ Sharing the screenshot ]. Also, malware detection has pointed out the websites and devices showcasing these websites [ attached screenshot of malware information ].     • Poor signal range, no ability to buy inexpensive extension, Great tech support

Bought this to replace an ASUS Nighthawk so that we could have better parental controls over clever kids. The nighthawk had circle built in but required a subscription and was clumsy to use and our kids were constantly circumventing it through various means. Compared to our old router the range on this router is frankly pathetic plugged into the same location. Even worse, we needed to buy an extension to get any reasonable coverage in our house. The extender works but any device connected through the extender is instantly a new "unmanaged device" with full and open access to the internet. Gryphon doesn't sell inexpensive compatible extenders for this model as they did for the old one so you are forced to buy a second already overpriced router to create an extension. Now we are in the $600 range for so so internet coverage. Why can't someone develop an effective product for this market that doesn't cost two arms and a leg!? Update: After having troubles installing the guardian mesh I spoke to tech support and supposedly the new mac id's assigned by the network extender are not random and tied to the device so you can double enter devices such as Daughter Laptop 1 (When she is directly connected to the AX) and Daughter Laptop 1 Again when she is connected through the extension. I didn't verify this as I was struggling with the new setup but the tech support guy seemed competent and well informed. ... show more
