Description

Grumbacher Oil Painting Restorer is a surface cleaner for completed and dried oil paintings. It revives, refreshes and conditions a painting by removing surface soil. • It worked for me
Smells like natural orange oil which was strong but not unpleasant. With very little oil and very little work my old oil painting became natuarally fresh and vibrant looking without artificially enhancing. It seemed to clean but also just revive the oil paint which had with time and the elements become a bit dry and dull. A little goes a long way. I have enough for other paintings. I am mostly happy of the natural restoration. ... show more

  • Great product!
I work in a museum, and was turned on to this by a local artist for cleaning some of the paintings in our collection. It is AMAZING! After years of being neglected in our archives for almost 100 years, I used this product on one of our canvases, and the difference was night and day! Very easy to use, and the smell really wasn't that bad, unlike some of the other products we have tried. Very highly recommended! ... show more

  • Cleaned and brightened 71 year old oil painting.
This oil painting was done in 1950 by my sister when she was an art student in college. It had spent most of its life in a garage attic. The product did an excellent job cleaning the accumulated grime from 71 years. I gave it to her 30 year old grandson for Christmas. It was easy to use with a soft cloth. ... show more

  • About same as goo-gone
Got this to clean the darkened varnish on an old oil painting done back in the 1970s by a relative. It smells very oranges, just like goo-gone, and feels just like that product if you get it on your fingers. It even got a price tag sticky off an item like that product would - good to know! It did nothing to clean the darkened varnish despite following instructions. HOWEVER, I think that cheap varnish is to blame, not the product. Cheap varnish will darkened and or yellow with time and only a knowledgeable person can carefully remove said cheap varnish. Not the fault of this product. ... show more

  • IT WORKS !
This is a great oil painting cleaner ! I have a painting that has (had) very difficult to remove dust over more than half of it. A little of this product on a soft rag completely wiped away the dust and it is sparkling clean. I have been cleaning it with just a little bit of water on a soft rag for YEARS and could never get it clean, just a little or a layer off and it would be back within 2 weeks. I've read that bread may help take it off, I hadn't tried that, it sounded a little too weird so I had been looking for a cleaning product - I had little hope in this product only because I had been dealing with the caked on dust for years. This cleaned it immediately ! It removed the dust and NONE of the paint. If you have hard to remove dust on your oil painting, BUY THIS CLEANER - IT WORKS ! ... show more

  • It's basically Citra Solv
As soon as I opened the bottle I knew the smell was familiar- Citra Solv . I did use it on an old 1800s oil painting. It definitely cleaned any surface grime and dirt off however, next time I'll just use the Citra Solv I already have. This wont remove varnish. Good for a basic cleaning.

  • Oil painting restorer
This product did not work on my oil painting. Waste of money. Oil based and smelled like orange household cleaner.
