  • Great value (after upgrading the saddle)
Surprisingly good quality for an all-laminate guitar. That being said, upgrading the saddle brings this guitar to this full potential… PROs: finish is smooth black satin, feels great to play, factory action out of the box is extremely playable. Tuners hold tune well, and truss rod is easily accessible at the heel, but as someone who likes moderately higher action on acoustic (especially an all laminate to get the most sustain/tone possible out of it), the factory action was great. Tuner is spot on and super easy to use, and output jack outputs works as expected. For this price, a great bargain from a brand other than Fender, Yamaha (which i previously had an Fg series and hated). Frets were all straight and fretboard feel is what you’d expect at this price , softer than anything premium but comfortable and usable enough after a good lemon oil treatment (came in a little dry). Also is super light and great for couch playing, albeit the lightness reveals its price…. CONs: One thing the description doesnt tell you is about the nut/saddle, which is made out of some weird soft synthetic “bone” material. I replaced the saddle immediately with a TUSQ saddle (as pictured, w/ factory action and is slightly higher w/o sanding anything. I love it but note factory action is slightly lower) and alongside fresh light-gauge strings, the tone was significantly improved with much more clarity and sustain. Nothing replaces a solid top but this saddle upgrade arguably makes this viable for serious recording in terms of clarity and sustain/dynamics. Up to you if you think its worth upgrading the nut but IMO the synthetic bone material is sufficient enough for the nut - stock saddle makes things sound a little dull and chimey at times. Also, last picture will show that player facing side fret markers are off. Again, for this price, could be worse and doesnt affect playing but is an obvious flaw. Frets are straight but were slightly uneven on the ends (not sharp however). A quick sand fixed that in my case. As mentioned out of the box the fretboard was noticeably dry. Overall: get this, even as a beater guitar for the couch, campfire, or amateur recording….but upgrade the saddle. Not sure about bone but a TUSQ sized one is a drop in fit for around $20, which all in with fresh strings makes this thing sound much nicer than what you paid for. Onboard tuner and output (9v battery is included!) is a convenient plus that makes this more a value and w/ saddle upgrade you could get away with performing with this. Ignoring the finer details results in a very comfortable, decent looking and clean sounding guitar ... show more

  • Sharp frets on both side of neck.
I just received my Gretsch D100CE yesterday. overall it is a great feeling and looking guitar. The big problem i have, is all the frets on both sides down to the bridge are sharp and need to be filed down. I've bought a few budget guitars and this is the first time i've had this bad a problem. I can resolve the problem myself, but it should not have been this bad. Gretsch is still my favorite brand and will continue to buy and hope this was an isolated problem. ... show more
