  • Straightforward and Super Practical for First-Time Gardeners
Format: Kindle
This book is exactly what I needed as someone totally new to greenhouse gardening. It walks you through the basics without being overwhelming — from choosing the right structure to dealing with pests and managing the climate year-round. I appreciated how beginner-friendly it is, but it still includes enough detail to make you feel confident about actually doing it. Great for anyone who wants to grow their own veggies or herbs at home, even if you’ve never gardened before. Definitely recommend if you’re starting from scratch and want a simple, step-by-step guide. ... show more

I picked up Greenhouse Gardening For Beginners because I wanted to try growing my own veggies year-round. I’m not a pro gardener by any means, just a hobbyist who loves fresh tomatoes and herbs. This book was really easy to follow—it explains the basics of setting up a greenhouse, how to control the temperature and humidity, and when to plant different crops. The author breaks things down simply, which is perfect if you’ve never gardened before What I liked most: Clear tips on greenhouse setup Helpful advice on seasonal planting Practical steps that don’t feel overwhelming A couple of things to improve: I wish it had more photos or sketches—sometimes it’s hard to visualize what they’re describing. It’s focused on beginners; if you already know some basics, a more advanced guide might be better. Overall, for under $5 (it was free when I got it), this was a solid intro. If you're curious about greenhouse gardening and want something straightforward, this is a good place to start. ... show more

  • Needs an editor
Format: Paperback
I can't recommend this book. I'm on page 10 and so far I have noted so many poorly written sentences that I'm completely distracted and unable to focus on what the author is trying to convey. It's obvious no one has edited this book. I'm not questioning the author's expertise in greenhouse gardening but I have spent considerable time wondering if he is a native English speaker. As a disclaimer, I am not a professional editor but I have earned my Master's degree in education and am somewhat familiar with standard American English. Don't waste your money. ... show more

  • Good intro to what it takes to manage a backyard greenhouse, but it’s not a how-to book
Format: Kindle
I’ve been thinking about getting a greenhouse for a long time, but have been worried about how to get started. I got this book to learn more about how it works: how to plan out the location, decide what to grow, manage the temperature and air flow, and what to do about watering and pest control. This book covers all those topics and several more, including a very helpful troubleshooting guide near the end. However, on almost all topics, the book provides explanations around the concepts but not a lot of actionable instructions. It’s great for understanding what needs to be done, and less so on how exactly to do it. There are no pictures, no diagrams, no illustrations at all, so you can’t “see” what it’s talking about when it describes things. For that reason, I would not call this a beginners’ book since it doesn’t show you what to do. For instance, the instructions for building a DIY greenhouse structure are light on details, and there are no diagrams, so if you’re building your own and need measurements and images, I’d recommend getting a different book. The book i great for learning what’s involved, but you’d need to get a different book for detailed instructions. If you just want to know how it works, and maybe get some ideas if you’re crafty and don’t need instructions, it’s a good book. ... show more
