I was finally able to get an opportunity to test these new graphite stir rods and I was not disappointed. I have been setting up my jewelry shop for a few months now trying to get everything ready and in place. So finally yesterday I had some fine silver castings all ready to go. I had the molten silver all looking like an egg yoke, I sprinkled a little boric acid on it and dipped the stir stick into the molten silver and the slag on top of the silver attached itself to the stir rod as it should, Boom done! Sometimes with other brands i literally had to stir them around a bit to gather up all the impurities, not this time. I then proceeded to cast the four pieces of jewelry in my centrifugal casting machine and completed four pieces of handmade jewelry for Christmas gifts for my wife and daughter late last night. The rods work very well, good length, it is nice to have a set of five. I am sure i will be grabbing another set as soon as these are used up. These graphite rods are wonderful for stirring molten metal in small crucibles. Definitely an upgrade from a steel rod. At under $10 I would consider this a good value. The hardness of the graphite is comparable to a 4H pencil.
