  • Strong, reliable, comfortable.
I've tried alot of different axes out and asked alot of friends of mine what axes are the best, and i've heard alot of people swear up and down that gransfors bruks RARELY has any issues, Putting down 200$ for a small axe was hard to do, but after putting it through the ringer, This axe did not disappoint! Extremely well crafted, i could see right off the bat, the handle is very well shaped to my hand and comfortable to hold, Very sharp axe head and extremely durable too! small enough to fit in a pack and all around just a joy to use! If you're looking for a good camping hatchet, if you can afford to put down 200$ couldn't think of a better tool to recommend if you need a good hatchet! ... show more

  • Perfect for my need
I have a few GB axes, was looking for a light weight compact axe to use with my new winter load out, went with this axe based on the size and the ability to split wood. I typically do not fell trees while winter camping and carry a silky saw to cut wood lengths to fit into my titanium hot tent stove, this axe allows me to split wood, limb dead branches, make tent stakes, pound those stakes into the ground and make feather sticks while maintaining a light weight load out. Felling a tree would be possible with this axe but not practical for my use and would take major effort IMHO. The Outdoor Axe was delivered shaving sharp with the fit and finish as expected from GB. As a side note all of my GB axes are delivered with a nice booklet, just think it would be nice to get one in english sometime, I look at the pictures and toss the books into the garbage along with the plastic bags the axes are delivered in. The Outdoor axe is pricey but worth the investment as a tool you can depend on miles away from nowhere. ... show more

  • Certainly an investment, but well worth it if you plan to use it for years
This is definitely not something to impulse buy. Do your research. As one reviewer mentioned, there are likely cheaper options for purchase than here because of where the supplier shipment originates (Finland), and the shipping costs being baked into the "Prime" price. But once you get past that, this is an incredibly well balanced all around campmaking, bushcrafting and survival tool that will hold up for years to come. It's razor sharp out of the box and incredibly well balanced, and it has features that make it a usable (albeit not ideal) splitting axe. Some might think it's trying to be a bit too much at once and is not really good at any one thing; at this weight and size it outperforms many small and full size axes, and still can be comfortably one-handed like any hatchet. The handle is also very well proportioned with a palm swell just below the bit of the axe, which allows for very comfortable detail work (kindling, notching, carving, and even dicing chives!). The metal collar under the head helps to offset any impacts to the handle from splitting. It's not going to replace your maul for splitting cord after cord of wood, but I don't think you could get a better camp axe that you could comfortably throw in a backpack, use one handed and achieve the same kind of work and efficiency. ... show more

  • Best small axe I've ever used.
I bought this small axe so it would easily fit into my Mystery Ranch pack. My work includes very long hikes which means I need to camp sometimes. I've found this axe to be the perfect weight & length. It came from the factory extremely sharp with just the right profile for the necessary work needed to cut wood for a camp fire. The only downside is the cost, which is expensive. However, the quality is first class, so I can see how it matches the price. I can see this axe lasting me a lifetime. ... show more

  • Gransfors Burks Outdoor Axe
Great axe for my needs. Light weight, tuff, nice sheath and works as a knife for me. I carry it a lot on a small backpack.

  • Too expensive to have quality defects like this.
First one I received, the bit was badly bent during forging. Second one had a bad grind and heel dented in one corner. Picky maybe, but historically GB made top notch stuff. For the price it is expected. Initials on the two I sent back were RO. Someone needs some retraining. Unfortunately scAmazon app won’t let me upload pics. ... show more

  • Very giftable axe
I purchased this a a gift for a nephew who loves the outdoors. I haven't actually used it. But I love woodworking tools, and this is one sweet little axe. Lightweight and smaller than i thought it would be. It looks about the size of a tomahawk. But its really cool. Each one is handmade by an individual blacksmith at Gransfors. Their initials are stamped into the axe head. You can look up their actual names on the Gransfors website. At over $200 it's not for everyone. But if its in your budget, it's a tool thats likely to be around for a while. ... show more

  • Everything Council wishes their Woodcraft line was...
This is by FAR the best bushcraft axe on the market. It's harder, handier, and better made than the Council Woodcraft (which tries to do too much and is great at nothing). I pounded the hell out of it for a long weekend and the edge was still feathering wood paper thin with ease. 2 minutes on the strop and it's hair popping sharp again. They work miracles with 1055 at Gransfors. This is basically a Hudson Bay reduced in size to be very capable at *high* precision work, while being tough enough to break a log into everything you need to start a fire. I find myself doing stuff with this that I'm normally reaching for my knife to do. But it'll still crack a substantially sized log to match sticks if you know what you're doing. This design isn't for everyone. But advanced users will be absolutely delighted. This would also be the axe of choice for people who use twig fire stoves. I've been absolutely blown away by this product, and I can be a harsh critic. ... show more
