  • Amazingly Beautiful Racing Experience on PS4 Pro
Edition: PlayStation 4 Launch Edition
I have over 30 hours playing GT7 on PS4 Pro and not only does the game look stunning and moves super smooth (60fps); it also manages to easily surpass any fun I had with GT Sport in the little time I've spent with it. Some of the things that stood out to me is that the game finally feels like a Gran Turismo title. It has the car wash, oil changes, and upgrades to your vehicles. You'll have to spend some time playing the GT mode (career mode) in order to unlock most features. I wished some of these would have been unlocked from the get-go, but I didn't mind as I enjoyed playing the career mode either way. For example, you'll have to play for several hours, if not over 5, in order to unlock multi-player which includes 2-player split screen. Two player split screen is fun with the screen split vertically down the middle. However, you will not have the cockpit view in this gameplay mode (makes sense they don't have the capability to model 2 sets of cockpits for both players on PS4 Pro; don't know if this is true on PS5, but I would think the same applies there). It is fun starting a race at the break of dawn and watch how the sun slowly start lighting up the track on the 2nd and subsequent laps of your races. I also love racing in the rain which of course, changes how fast you need to take the turns or how much pedal to the metal you can apply on the more powerful engines. On a different note, my old Fanatec wheel kept having disconnect problems which caused me to lose a race in more than one occasion, so I ended up getting the Logitech G29 steering wheel and boy, did it make a difference in my gameplay and the force shifter works flawlessly with it as well. I was using an aftermarket adapter for my Fanatec to connect to the PS4 as I had last gen Clubsport which does not natively work on either PS4 or the Xbox One family of consoles. Something that came a as surprise to me is that I've seen a lot of tracks already which I have not seen before in a previous GT game; for example, new version of Tokyo express. The only negative things I could say about the game is that I wish it had more features that are missing from GT6, like being able to test drive a car straight out of the garage instead of having to find a track from the racing menu and having to use the time trial for that purpose. Hopefully, they'll add these and other features as the game matures. I also feel like most of the cars I've received as rewards are hatch backs, which is fine, but perhaps it's just the fact that more and more vehicles have less of that old car form factor in the past 10 years. I'm also hoping to see the Willow track which I haven't seen in a while (hopefully, I just have to unlock it; and yes, you have to play career mode to unlock tracks). Before, finishing this review, I have to mention the special mode from the garage that lets you see your currently selected vehicle in different photo-realistic 3d vistas (mix of 3d and 2d high res photos) in quite a number of places around the world, it looks absolutely amazing and I can just leave the game running there as a screen saver and marvel at my selected vehicle being driven on some beautiful locations. Overall, GT7 is an amazing game which I expect to spend over a hundred hours playing like I did with the GT titles before it. I can't talk much about rally since I have yet to unlock it, but played one small part in one of the licenses, and certainly brought back good memories. Should you wait for a sale for this game? Absolutely not, get it now! ... show more

  • Still The King, but Lacks Content at Launch
Edition: PlayStation 4 Launch Edition
I've been playing this franchise since the late 90's and it's always been a cut above the rest, save for maybe a few of the minor entries. While I was not quite as hyped for this as I was back in 2010 for the release of GT5, I am pleased to be able to play without dropping several paychecks on new hardware. The game runs and looks decent played on a last-gen PS4 but that alone can't make up for a lack of content--mainly tracks. There are some future updates planned of course but it would have been nice, and I would have been thrilled, to see at least a few more of my favorite courses (namely R246, Seattle, Grand Valley, and SSR5) be remastered for the latest iteration at launch. It is however a breath of fresh air to see the dynamic weather, and the new original circuits make a re-appearance in GT7. High Speed Ring, Deep Forest and Trial Mountain remain some of the best original courses that the series has to offer. There's also a slight pacing issue with the "career" mode where players must complete objectives to progress. This gets rather dull and doesn't make collecting cars very fun. The collecting was always one of my favorite aspects of the game and something about every player unlocking the same cars as you are feels somewhat unremarkable. The used cars, tuning shop, and licensing center are back though, so at least there's incentive to progress, improve on your driving techniques, tune your vehicles, and boost your collector status. Overall, I will likely enjoy this entry quite a bit and even more so once more content is added. I played quite a bit of GT:Sport since it was released in 2017, even up until recently, so I'm not someone who sits down with one of these games short term. It will be interesting to see where Polyphony takes the series and hopefully some of the previous content makes its way into the game. I suppose I could recommend the game as-is but only under the assumption that it will be a bigger and better game at a later date. ... show more

  • It’s similar to sport but that’s a good thing
Edition: PlayStation 4 Launch Edition
A lot of negative reviews which are baseless. Those that love the franchise’s past versions will love this. You do NOT have to be online to enjoy this. The tracks open up as you play. The game unfolds as you win and accumulate money and cars. You can buy new or used to meet the requests asked by the narrator which helps guide you along the way. It takes patience and time to unfurl all the games surprises. If you have PS plus then the game gets even better with racing others around the world and even other bonuses can be had further placing you among the elite simulation drivers. Two player can also be unlocked after achieving certain trophies. I’ve yet to do that however but so far it’s similar to GT Sport only with more of everything and better graphics some of which are absolutely amazing. This is my experience on PS4 pro ... show more

  • Wasn’t given the Launch edition, was sent the regular edition
Edition: PlayStation 4 Launch Edition
Received the game, but it is not the launch edition like it says and is priced for. Your missing out on free game credits and bonus additions the launch edition comes with.
