Top Amazon Reviews

  • When They Say It’s DIY, They Truly Mean Hardcore DIY
I have never written a review, good or bad, for an Amazon product before. In the near decade I’ve been using Amazon, and the hundreds of purchases I’ve made, never a single one. This product, however, deserves a review and that’s not a good thing. The LED light strip is terrible. Simply terrible. The only part of the strip that works as advertised is the adhesive on the back. Just make sure you actually clean the surface you attach it to very well. The only conceivable way this product as a whole is worth anything at all is if you DO NOT cut the strip. The few reviews here I saw that said “don’t cut the strip”, they weren’t lying, DO NOT EVER CUT THE STRIP. It’s advertised as being DIY and having lines where you can cut the strip and customize it. That’s essentially a lie unless you are cutting extra that you don’t want off the end of the strip to shorten it. If you think you can cut this and make the LEDs after the cut work again even with any form of clips, soldering, or tools, you’re wrong. I didn’t listen, I cut the strip assuming other people didn’t do it right or didn’t know what they were doing or talking about. I purchased some 22 gauge wire and 4-pin solder-less clips separately because for my project, I needed to span some gaps in where the lights would be. I followed all instructions carefully, cut along the special designated dotted line, attached the clips as directed to do and it didn’t work. The section of LEDs connected directly into the power unit worked but after that the connection didn’t work with the clips. The issue is, the LED strip is to thin and flimsy. The clips work by puncturing the strip where each wire in the strip is located. But there isn’t enough material and wire on the strip to make contact with the metal in the clip and complete the connection. When that failed, and direct friction contact clips also failed, I decided I had nothing left to lose and I’d solder the 22-gauge wire to the LED strips gold leads. This does work, but it’s time consuming and challenging. I’m not a master at soldering. I’m mediocre at best as you can see in my attached pictures. But chances are, so is the average consumer of this product if they even know how to solder at all. Soldering the LED strip sections is the only way for it to work. I had to first cut the strip. Once cut, I then sanded down on the edge where I made the cut. I sanded because the preexisting leads that you initially see when you cut have a resin over the gold connectors so solder will not adhere. Be sure to mark what wire goes where with a sharpie too before sanding because the writing “12V+”, “R”, “G”, “B” all gets sanded off. Once sanded, you have to add flux or the solder won’t adhere. Then, you have to go and solder each individual wire to the strip. You need to make sure each of the correct leads line up properly, the wires are stripped enough but not too much, and then insulate the bare wires. It’s harder than it sounds too because the strip is about as flimsy as a piece of printer paper, it’s small, and you’re soldering tiny 22-gauge wire to it. The whole process is a joke. It takes DIY to a whole new level. To attached 6 strips together took nearly 3-4 hours, plus tons of extra tools and supplies. You’ll need solder, a soldering iron, flux, wire cutters, 22- gauge wire just to name a few things. Then once it was all said and done it worked great and I was going to give this product 3 starts. It took hard work but it is eventually possible to “DIY” the strip and cut it where you want. That is until after about 10 minutes, there was a short somewhere in my hack-job of soldering joints and now the whole strip hardly works. It does turn on but of all the rainbow of colors it once had, I now only get a dark blue that flickers like an old florescent light, green which also flickers, a strange bluish white color and some colors in between. The colors in between have to be a combo of blue, green, and white, though. Red doesn’t really work at all. It’s true the loss of red just means I have a short in the system which is most likely may fault and my terrible soldering skills. However I still fault this company because of the very false advertising. I didn’t expect or plan to have to actually solder everything together. I wouldn’t have bought it if I knew that. I expected it to be as advertised, ready to go out of the box. All and all, I wasted a total of about a day of my time trying to force a trashy product to kind of do what it’s advertised to do. My advice, don’t waste your time at all. In 2014 I bought a 5050 waterproof LED light strip for half the price that works to this day. And guess what, I cut the strip into 4 different pieces and connected it with wire clips just like this product advertises you can do! Yet it still worked as advertised for the past 8 years. The power supply burned out before those lights did. These LEDs here, I guess the extra money you pay all goes into a fancy box and packing because it’s not spared in the lights. These lights are good for one purpose only. That is to unroll the whole roll and attach it as one continuous unit to a ceiling or something. It can’t be cut or DIY-ed to do anything else. If you buy these, buy then to solely unroll them and attach it, as-is, out of the box with no modifications. Anything beyond that and you’re wasting you time. Also, I was tricked by their 32 foot roll first. It comes as two 16 foot rolls attached to the same power source. And guess what, you can cut those either! GOVEE and many offerings like it are a total joke and waste of time ... show more

  • did the job!

they worked up until the end when I decided to take them down because they were no longer my aesthetic. They were a little dim, but never broke and stayed up.

  • Too Blue
Very good lights with the only draw back is I can't get warm white light from it. It is very blue when on white. We wanted it to match the warm light in our bedroom but that was un achievable. But fun lights and very easy to install and the adhesive is sticking very well.

  • Vivid colors
I’ve had this product for a couple years now and out of the box they worked great. Over the past few years some parts of the strips don’t turn the correct color but I don’t think it to be a big problem. The only problem I have with these lights is that they rip paint off the walls.
