  • Totally awesome. Snorkeled with this on my full face snorkel... Totally awesome. Snorkeled with this on my full face snorkel...
Totally awesome. Snorkeled with this on my full face snorkel with gopro adapter for 1 week and captured the most unreal movies and never once fogged up or stopped working. completely waterproof. Crystal clear, easy to figure out. Also bought the 'selfie stick' and I walk around now recording everything I do like all the other lunatics on youtube. Totally fun and 4k video is UNREAL! You only live once so GET ONE! ---- Update: Been using for over 1 month almost non-stop. And, forgot to mention; I had this camera attached to the bodi-floaty all day long, floating in water without any case what-so-ever and did that for 7 days straight. Totally waterproof out of the box. I have been posting vids online and editing on the gopro cloud (too easy) and everyone loves the vid's/images. Actually had a relative think we hired someone to shoot vids of our condo lol. I went straight for the Samsung Pro Plus 128GB MicroSDXC Memory Card and it works flawlessly and holds TONS of video in 4K. -----last update for newbies like me that don't know what else to order or what they might need. I got lucky as all of the addons I bought worked out excellent. Take a look and maybe this will help you pick a handy accessory: start---- 1-29-17 My new memory came in and works perfect. Different model than my first 128gb but I see no difference other than price. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DOB6YUQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 My addons - took with me on the trip. 1) Extra Thumbscrews: Perfect fit and look cool in alloy purple. Nice rubber washer on each one too for snug fit -> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CUAEOJ6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 2) First 128gb mem I bought works perfect. Tried a new brand (up top) for the hell of it. Can’t tell the difference between either – both work just fine and store major amounts of movies and/or a billion images. -> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CO48M36/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 3) 2 extra batteries kit. Identical to the stock GoPro Batteries and last all day doing scuba and taking shots. Never left the recorder going for more than 15 mins at 4k so cant say exactly how long you will get out of these but I easily recorded over 1 hours worth of 4k movies with images tossed in. -> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LWKCIQN/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 4) Floaty was awesome. Keeps the camera boyant if you drop it under water and does not get in the way of shooting at all. Easy to see and fit perfect. Looks cool too. -> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ETXS4MO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1 5) Dual charger for my 3 batteries. Works fast charging two at a time in about 1 hour. No problems and shows green light when batts are charged. Small and fits nice in my accessory bag -> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ETXS4MO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1 6) Perfect accessory bag fits everything and more. Mine is packed! Small slots for mem, all my batteries, charger and cables. Holds my floaty, my short gopro stick (the fat one that comes with the accessory kits) and my extended type selfie stick. Nice and light and zips up. Good quality. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PMMB4X8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s09?ie=UTF8&psc=1 7) Not really a gopro accessory but if you are going snorkeling you MUST get one of these. We had them sucked to our face for a week and got some awesome underwater footage of kids and fish that look like ‘finding nemo’ movie. Try them out – they are awesome. Not cheap $$ wise but I sent so much on crap for my trip that I said what the hell, just do it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K3Q16AI/ref=od_aui_detailpages02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 9) Lastly, this kit has more crap in it than you can imagine. I don’t know what half of the parts are for but maybe someday I’ll have a need and reach in the bag to figure out what to do with what. The floaty stick in this kit is good for snorkeling. The selfie sticks are too skinny and both of mine are metal so I didn’t want to take them underwater. The fat floaty stick in the kit compliments the bodi floaty (above) and again, looks totally cool. A few of my thumbscrews wound up rusty after 2 days in the saltwater and I cant remember if they were the ones that came with this kit or what. Either way, get some extra thumbscrews – longer the better. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PLBXUMS/ref=od_aui_detailpages05?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Thats it! ... show more

  • Spectacular GoPro - HERO5 is the Best !!
I've had this camera fro several months now and absolutely love it. I'm a car enthusiast and mount this to my car to capture some awesome video. In stock form the GoPro HERO5 Black is awesome. Video quality is super and I usually use 1080p 60fps settings for YouTube video. I have taken several photos that look as good as my Canon SLR camera. My wife and I are going on a trip to Europe and I'm not brining my Canon but I will be bringing my GoPro HERO 5. The GoPro is easy to use and easy to download using their software. The Capture App that you use with the HERO5 works flawlessly, you can see the viewer on your phone, exactly what the camera sees, and you can turn the GoPro on/off remotely through the phone app and bluetooth. Photo and video quality is spectacular. The battery life is ok considering the GoPro is notorious for using up battery quickly when filming video. On Standby and regular photos the battery life is good. I purchased 3 more genuine GoPro batteries and dual battery charger. That $80 investment removes any stress worrying about battery life. The case is well made and easily connects to several mounts. I would recommend spending a little more and purchase Joby mounts - the only mounts I trust to hold a $500 camera. I use ScanDisk Extreme 64GB microSDXC UHS-1 Cards in my GoPro HERO5 Black because it can handle the 4K resolution and play back speed. They are fairly reasonably priced here on Amazon. I also invested into Cyberlink Power Director as my video editing software. I am now officially addicted to using my GoPro. Bottom line is I would recommend the GoPro HERO5 Black to anyone who is looking to get into the video filming or even use it a digital camera. Once you get to using it, you will love it as much as I do. This is an awesome little camera and you will not regret getting it! ... show more

  • Overall great action camera
Product works as advertised without any problems whatsoever. Picture and video quality were as expected and the camera has proven to be quite durable after my most recent trip to Alaska. The touchscreen display is a nice touch that may not be fore everyone but it allows for a suite of customization and options for videos (up to 4k, 30 FPS), single photos (12 MP), burst photos, and time lapses. Being able to pull up menus on one screen is definitely a lot more convenient then having to toggle through everything with one button and have that growing frustration when you accidentally go past the selection you wanted. The camera has been submerged (with and without an underwater housing) and the watertight seals proved to work as advertised. Underwater photo and video quality were as expected as well. Overall, this is a great camera for my needs although I would suggest the Session to anyone who finds the Hero models to be too large or clunky. My *only* complaint is the WiFi connectivity with the GoPro Capture application on my phone. Occasionally the camera and phone will stop talking and be unable to re-establish a connection unless 1) I click on the Capture App option in the connections menu on the camera and pray the WiFi signal shows up on my phone and/or 2) I power cycle the camera. Since I use multiple GoPros I was hoping to be able to cycle through different cameras via the app; however, this is still a work-in-progress (on my end). Likewise, it's a little more difficult to connect to this camera's WiFi via your desktop/laptop (e.g., through VLC) compared to the earlier models. However, the former is not a huge issue for me and the second is a fluff feature that isn't intended. Verdict: overall a great camera that has fit my needs exactly. If I were a prospective buyer I would be hesitant in purchasing this only because the HERO6 is around the corner (which will allegedly have better color features according to the company's CEO). ... show more

  • Awesome Camera After Fixing SD Card Issues!
It must be noted that for the first few days of owning this camera, I considered it a terrible investment due to the issue of the GoPro experiencing problems with the SD card. I was seriously regretting my purchase until I got it figured out, and for that, this product unfortunately loses one star for me because it was a major pain until I got it working correctly. It is something that a user should not have to deal with right out of the box. I will post at the end of this review what I did to correct the issue, and if you're experiencing SD card errors I would expect it will clear your problem up as well. With THAT out of the way, you can rest assured that this camera is by far one of the best ones your money can buy available on the market today. The image quality while recording at 4K is stunningly beautiful, not to take away from the great quality at 1080P or 720P, as those deserve their due credit too. The sound recording quality is noticeably better when compared to the previous model Hero4 due to the improved microphones in this model. I haven't messed with all the features in this camera yet but so far I think it's an awesome looking, great performing, fantastic little piece of equipment to have in your camera arsenal. As for the SD card error message displayed after about :10 seconds of recording: I purchased a SanDisk Extreme 32GB UHS-I micro SD card as recommended by GoPro themselves to be a trusted card in their device. No matter what I did... no matter how I formatted it... THIS CARD DID NOT WORK IN MY CAMERA. PERIOD. I instead went out and purchased a PNY 32GB UHS-I micro SD card and I have not had a problem since. Hopefully the same thing works for you if you're experiencing troubles with this great camera as well! Here's a link to the micro SD card that actually worked for me: (https://www.amazon.com/PNY-Elite-X-32GB-microSDHC-Adapter-UHS-I/dp/B01G26R13Y/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1484790784&sr=1-2&keywords=pny+micro+sd+card) ... show more

  • Lovin' this GoPro
Purchased this GoPro HERO5 after seeing that it came with a sixty dollar Amazon gift card promo (shipped separately from the camera). I had previously purchased and returned the HD model, being very disappointed in its audio quality and the inability to swap out batteries. This model immediately peaked my interest as it has improved audio with (3) onboard microphones, a touchscreen, the battery can be swapped out and it has 4k video capabilities. I will primarily be using this cam to vlog, but I also plan on putting the cam on my dogs and will take it rafting and fishing this summer. I like that the housing is waterproof and appreciate that I don't have to purchase a skeleton for it which might muffle the audio performance. There is also a port which is not covered by the included frame (skeleton) which can be used by a GoPro microphone adapter to add an external microphone to the camera. I think it's crazy expensive... but then again what GoPro accessory isn't if it's been branded as such? If interested... GoPro Pro 3.5mm Mic Adapter (HERO5 Black/HERO5 Session) (GoPro Official Accessory). What I like about this camera: ☆ Takes great looking 720p, 1080p and 4K video, even in low light conditions. ☆ 1080P at 120fps is a sweet spot for video reviews. ☆ Audio without an external microphone is quite good. ☆ Raw Audio: "This setting applies only to the Video capture mode and creates a separate .wav file for your video, in addition to the standard .mp4 audio track. You can select the level of processing to apply to the RAW audio track. This setting is useful if you want a separate .wav file to share or use in post-processing." ☆ It's easy to get started using it after viewing a brief onscreen tutorial. ☆ The recommended Micro SD cards are listed on the GoPro website. I purchased the Sandisk Extreme PLUS - Flash Memory Card - 64 GB - MicroSDXC UHS-I, Gold/Red (SDSQXSG-064G-ANCMA) for forty dollars and it immediately was recognized by the HERO5 and I was able to record both video at 1080P and 4K without a hitch. From the GoPro HERO5 Black manual: " Use brand name memory cards that meet these requirements: • microSD, microSDHC, or microSDXC • Class 10 or UHS-I rating • Capacity up to 128GB ** For a list of the recommended microSD cards visit the GoPro website or do a Google search to get it." ☆ The touchscreen has clear directions, is responsive to touch and bright enough to be easy to see in bright conditions. ☆ Being able to easily change settings by touch (video quality, field of view...) works really well and examples on screen very helpful. ☆ Turning the camera on and off is easily accomplished, as well as switching from photos to video. ☆ Photos taken with the HERO5 are very good at 12MP. ☆ WDR and RAW photo capabilities. ☆ Advanced image stabilization seems to work really well. ☆ Battery life of approximately 2 hours - shooting 1080P - works great with a 64GB SanDsk Extreme Plus card. ☆ GoPro Capture software for iOS allows for remote control of the camera. ☆ Voice Control is possible with this GoPro camera! ☆ One-button recording is quick and easy to use. ☆ Enabling GPS allows for geo-marking photos and video. ☆ GoPro Quik software allows users to view, edit and produce quality videos from their PC, Mac or iOS device. ------------------------------------------- What I wish was better: ♦︎ The HERO5 comes with virtually no directions. I had to go online to look-up where the charging port was located, and while it comes with voice command capabilities - there's nothing that ships with it to tell you how to do it. You can however, go to the GoPro website and click Support. From there you enter your product and what language if preferred. ♦︎ The HERO5 I received had a few visual flaws on the camera and skeleton. Quality control from GoPro may be lacking. ♦︎ There is NO MEMORY with the camera. It seems GoPro could have thrown in a compatible Micro SD card for the price paid. ♦︎ Charging of the camera from 7% battery took 1 hour - a little longer than I'd like. ♦︎ Ships with a charging cable USB-C; the new standard which not everyone has as of yet, but no mini HDMI to HDMI cable is included. If you want an extra here's one: Cable Matters USB 2.0 Type C (USB-C) to Type A (USB-A) Cable in Black 6.6 Feet that's about seven bucks. ♦︎ No Mini HDMI to HDMI cable included. Needed if you want to hook it up to a HDTV to view content vs hooking up to a PC or taking out the microSD card. Yet another thing to buy! ♦︎ At present off-branded batteries do not work with this GoPro cam after a firmware update - you've got to buy GoPro batteries. ♦︎ If you will be working with 4K video, you will probably need a fast PC to use GoPro Quik Desktop software. While Windows 64-bit systems: Win 7, 8.1, and 10 are supported and Mac OS 10.10X or later, Intel Quad Core i7 processors are recommended and an Intel HD Graphics 4000 or better. NO 32-bit support. Alternatively you can load to the cloud and edit with iOS. ♦︎ You can buy space on the GoPro Plus cloud storage is available to store all your photos and video, and share them on social media while you're on the go, but once again... more to buy. Consider other options like Dropbox Pro or Amazon. ♦︎ No screen protectors or lens cap comes with the HERO5, and must be purchased separately. ♦︎ While the camera is waterproof, the doors to the charging port and battery compartments don't seem particularly strong. Care should be taken when gaining access to each compartment to maintain this feature. NOTE: In the manual found on the GoPro website (Support) you can learn how to take the charging port door off. ♦︎ GoPro warranty... "Every GoPro comes with a 30 day money back guarantee and a one year GoPro warranty that covers manufacturer defects. This doesn’t cover accidental damage...". I think that's pathetic considering how much you pay for these cams, but you can buy GoPro Care within 60 days for an additional $39 from GoPro. "GoPro Care is like AppleCare for your GoPro. It extends the coverage from manufacturer defects to two years, and it adds accidental coverage to your GoPro for two years." You will pay $79 for accidental damage claims even with GoPro Care, but there are a few other perks that having this coverage provides. "In addition to a better GoPro Care warranty, buying GoPro Care adds three more features that can help you get a replacement faster and better overall support. GoPro Care includes Rapid Camera Replacement which means that they will send a replacement camera wherever you are — even if you are on vacation or on a shoot. Premium Customer Support includes GoPro expert assistance that includes priority phone support, 24/7 chat and email support for camera and software problems. You also get access to GoPro consulting that can help you learn GoPro editing tips and tricks, access to special insider blogs and best practices." **Quotes taken from info on the Gotta Be Mobile website. Info inside the box on how to obtain GoPro Care is in the box if you want it. ----------------------------- Overall, I like this GoPro HERO5 action cam a lot, and I'm sure I'll have fun with it. It's certainly a step up from the GoPro HERO+ LCD [Ecommerce Packaging] I returned in terms of ease of use, audio quality and features. While I wasn't sure the HERO5 was worth the money, my initial thoughts are it is and I'm glad I got it. Obviously there are some things I wish were better and/or included with the HERO5 Black, and yet I'd still recommend it to others in the market for a similar camera. If I planned on using it for recording lots of active pursuits I'd definitely add the GoPro Care warranty. In addition to an extra battery two other products I purchased for this camera include: Fetch Dog Harness Chest Mount for Gopro HERO 5/4/3 Black Silver Session(10-in-1) and GoPro Tripod Mounts (GoPro Official Mount). ------------------------------------ NOTE: I will update this review as I use this GoPro and adjust my star rating if needed. ... show more

  • This is the best GoPro yet This is the best GoPro yet
I've had GoPro's since the 3. Was not really interested in the 5th version since it didn't seem to offer much improvement and due to it's new form factor it won't fit my expensive dome set-up, which I like to use for those over-under water shots. And the BOSS in my Sony X3000 is better than the electronic stabilization found here. But I am very picky! And I am kind of sick of having to jam the unit inside a case each time. It's an extra step in my busy life that I just don't need. I took the plunge and tested it out: 1. ES is not bad. BOSS is still better but this does 2.7K @ 60fps and man that is just the best GoPro footage I've ever seen. 2. I like being able to shoot RAW photos. The point of these action cams is on the fly action capture so I will still use Burst most of the time (the JPEGs from this are pretty good) but will use RAW single when I can (it's only in wide mode so pictures, even corrected, can be a challenge but at the right situation still good) 3. The menu is brand new so still figuring it out, but so far I like it. And once set-up you can leave it alone. Button on right moves between video, photo, burst, and then time-lapse. Pretty quick to cycle between. I think I will keep my Hero4 Silver for use in the dome. The photographic potential of the GoPro is probably still well behind even the most basic of Canon Rebel, Nikon 5300, and Sony RX100 type cameras, so it's not worth the extra expense to replace that. For video, however, this is really nice. I often like to wear my GoPro on my forehead and the form factor is a million times better than my Sony X3000 (I'll use that for "chesty" and handheld stuff). Wish list: GoPro 6 will have mechanical stabilization and photography will catch up the the basic Rebel type of camera. ... show more

  • Love it!
I upgraded from a GoPro 4 Black. Not much difference in video quality that i could notice. Bit rate seems to be slightly higher with the 5 than my 4 Black, it it's recording more details in 1080p. I don't really have a use for 4K as the max frame rate is only 30fps. I need at least 60fps and 1080p is more than enough for what I use the GoPro for. The main selling feature for me is the image stabilization and GPS for telemetry overlay in the video. I did a quick test in my car and the overlay feature is nice as it will show my speed, G force, and all the other good stuff. I plan to use this for my motorcycle rides through the canyon. I can see the electronic image stabilization working on the video play back. Seems like I'm using a 3 axis gimbal which is cool. I think it actually electronically stabilizes all 3 axis (pitch, roll, and pan). It seems to work pretty good on my car test shot, but not sure how well the image stabilization works when holding the GoPro hand held or using it on a motorcycle which has more vibrations. The cons about the newer GoPro 5 Black: 1. The built in mic sucks. Audio sounds really muffled and not clear like my GoPro 4 black. Probably due to the water proof design. It sounds very similar to using a GoPro in a full waterproof case. 2. You can no longer plug in an external mic directly and need to use an expensive adaptor. This sucks as you can only use the adaptor that GoPro sells and this is not cheap and adds more stuff just to use an external mic. 3. The screen is required to access the main settings. You can still change the camera settings without the screen, but not able to change the other settings such as WiFi, GPS, and other things like the previous GoPro models. I have to remove my motorcycle gloves to use the touch screen. Also I heard the touch screen doesnt' work under which I haven't tested yet. 4. The GoPro 5 Black is advertised as waterproof, but I'm not going to take that chance without using a real waterproof case. Ive read some reports from other people that their camera lens fogged up when using the GoPro in water or water got inside and fired their GoPro. GoPro doesn't cover water damages. Too much money to test out so purchasing the insurance may be a good option if you going to use the GoPro around water. Overal I give this GoPro a 5 Star rating because it does exactly what I expected. There are other sellers selling refurbished ones for cheaper but I choose to buy new as I wanted to have the best and not a second hand unit. Also can't bet Amazon's same day shipping for dirt cheap and saved me the time of having to go to the retail store out of my busy schedule to buy one. ... show more

  • Warning: defective product and worst customer service out there
Hold on before clicking buy! While this camera may seem exciting, beware that many defective units are being sold and it does not function as advertised. And if you encounter an issue (which is highly likely) customer service won't do anything to help you. GoPro customer service is the worst I have ever dealt with. This could easily be $400 down the drain. I purchased the camera for an big, upcoming trip. The camera worked great the first time I tested it out prior to the trip (no extreme activity). I was very excited about it and bought all the accompanying accessories. The second time I used it on my trip it completely froze up (again, no extreme activity). Anytime I tried to view my pictures it froze and just said "Loading". I needed to remove the battery each time to get it to unfreeze and it would just freeze up again any time I tried viewing the pictures. I couldn't even view the pictures on the capture app. After reading endless blogs and trying every single troubleshooting step (inclucing erasing all my pictures) I spoke with customer service over online chat. My rep, Meryxcel, could barely speak English and proposed the most absurd solutions (like redownloading the capture app) which were very clearly not at the root of the problem. After explaining the problem in great detail and waiting an average of 5 minutes before each response he still thought the issue was with the LED backlight of the view screen. I also explained that I was traveling internationally and needed the camera for the trip I had specifically purchased it for. He offered no flexibility in coming up with a solution saying I needed to mail the camera back first so they could review it and then they would send another one but could not offer neither expedited nor international shipping. My trip would be over before I got the replacement. I requested to speak with a supervisor and Meryxcel ignored the request twice and then told me it was impossible. I was persistent and finally spoke with a supervisor after waiting a long time and still received no further assistance. At a loss, I asked that they send the return instructions.
