Spikes didn’t penetrate, even when weighted. Bricks don’t help, neither did 10 pounds of steel weight. Lightweight, so it’s not easy to keep a consistent pattern. Screws keep coming loose when it’s used because of the motion.

So let’s be honest... This item will not “aerate” your lawn. In fact, if you have good grass it does almost nothing. However, if you have thin/patchy grass and are planning to overseed and/or fertilize this tool may be for you. It works decent on patches of dirt between grass but it does not create deep holes, only very small holes where you’d hope to have seeds/fertilizer go into. Also, you have to apply a good amount of pressure and this tool is not sturdy, it’s not flimsy, but it will break if too much pressure is applied. All in all, not really worth the money unless you plan on overseeding and want a tool to possibly help with that process.

Depending on the type of soil it worked well. On more clay areas the product seemed to struggle to penetrate the soil unless you were putting a decent amount of force into it. Did tend to need a bit of pressure which was hard with the type of handle.

Easy to use, seems to do the job. However, the bolts on the sides holding the handle on keep coming off. It’s a frustrating piece of equipment.
