πŸš€ Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Pixel Fold is largely well-reviewed, particularly praised for its beautiful design, usable outside screen, exceptional camera, and rapid charging. However, some users found room for improvement, citing issues with Wi-Fi connectivity, speaker quality, and limited app support for the dual screen setup.

Pros

  • 🌟 Excellent build quality and aesthetic design
  • πŸ”‹ Rapid charging capability
  • πŸ–Ό Dual screen significantly enhances experiences with videos and books
  • πŸ“· Superior camera, the best in foldable phones according to one reviewer
  • πŸ“± Usable outside screen compares favorably to competitors

Cons

  • ❌ Challenges with Wi-Fi connectivity in certain locations
  • πŸ”ˆ Speaker quality described as unsatisfactory
  • πŸ”‹ Some users report the battery life could be better
  • πŸ’» Limited app support for dual screen use
  • πŸ”₯ Some users reported overheating issues and problems with wireless charging

Should I Buy It?

If you prioritize camera quality, love dual screen design, and prefer pure Android experience, the Pixel Fold is a highly recommendable choice despite its minor flaws. However, for those expecting extensive app support for the foldable design and long-lasting battery life, you might want to wait for further enhancements or look at other options.

I love this phone! Folding phones are the future and since Pixel's are the iPhone's of Android, I will continue buying folding phones from Google. It has a nice big front screen and even bigger inside screen. Greay battery life. Feels more rugged then other Pixel phones. • Extremely great value at $575, but arrives with 0% battery charge (important), plus durability notes
Size: 256GB Style: Phone Only
**IMPORTANT battery note at the end! not a bad thing, but you have to help the BMS system calibrate correctly because these are old stock and deeply discharged** tldr: so far, its a great value (currently priced at $575) for a truly high end premium phone. The fact its two generations old really doesn't mean anything here, trust me. But, you have to charge it right out of the box because this stock is deeply discharged, and there are some longevity quirks to be aware off, detailed at the end. I just got this yesterday, I'll update this after a month or so. So far, I *love* the form of the phone. Its heavier than most phones, and a bit thicker (two screens, of course it is)... but the way its designed feels intentional, premium and crafted, and the weight adds to that. The aspect ratio is perfect honestly and encourages intentional, mindful usage, while opening up fully when needed. The design of it - being a first gen foldable by Google and thus not too popular, will make people turn their heads and ask about it. it looks seriously chic-handsome as a phone and defies the clinical/boring designs a lot of phones are gravitating to. No issues with connectivity, bluetooth, typical functionality. It all just works, so far. No bugs to speak of after updating everything. I'll update this over time if anything new comes up. Camera quality is fine - ill update as I can use it more. It was a 'great' but not top-end experience in 2023... today it seems to be only 'good'. Don't buy this for the cameras, but the pictures it takes will still be very good for most people. Speakers were surprisingly good. They have enough of a resonance chamber to have enough bass to hear, and they have good upper mid range, so they sound really clear. Still a couple steps behind an iPhone, but well above average for a typical android phone. they rightfully knew media consumption would be a common use for this and designed their speakers accordingly. There are NO software enhancements on this device - no Dolby Atmos, or anything like that. Google has some unspecified 'spatial' enhancement but it doesnt seem to do much unless using the phone speakers. CPU speed is great - its not a powerhouse, so heavy gamers, content editors, mobile solar system simulators might be disappointed by the G2. The G2 was already a midrange-ish chip two years ago, and now its two gens old. But, its very optimized, and Google knows what they are doing on the software side. for most power users and everyday users, its going to be great. I have yet to experience a single slowdown - even when multitasking on the inner display while downloading dozens of apps (though it did get warm) - and the UI is snappy and everything is fast. 12gb of RAM is plenty for the long haul too. If I didn't know what kind of chip was in this, I would assume its a tip-tier flagship CPU from the current generation from using the phone the way 97% of people do. Two things to consider, given this is a foldable and old stock: (1) battery. Out of the box, the phone did not turn on. So I plugged it up (and quietly panicked a little), and after several minutes the battery icon flashed and it showed 0% charge (and I had a nice sigh of relief lol). This is normal from long storage since this is old inventory. I *strongly* recommend using a slower charge (1 to 2 amps, 5V - no quick charge! use a computer USB output if in doubt) to revive the battery at stable temps, deferring a first-time-charge if its really hot or cold, and to avoid powering it on or setting it up until its gets to 100% AND saturates there for about 30 minutes to an hour, since this phone has two battery packs that have to be balanced. At that point, unplug it, get those new OS updates installed (they improve a LOT of stuff), apps, backups, whatever - and let it naturally discharge to about 10% to finish calibrating the BMS's coulomb counter and voltage curves. Then, just charge and use normally. I really recommend that process, though, because since you are starting with a battery that has experience calendar wear already at a likely deep discharge, the BMS and software optimizations will benefit from an accurate calibration of the battery voltages and cell conditions. Google's battery management is very good, but it needs accurate voltage curves to work its magic. I really recommend using one of the charge optimization settings (you can type in 'charge optimization' in the setting search bar after the OS updates to Android 16, to get there quickly)... simply because these batteries are going to be a little more worn than normal out-of-the-box due to storage conditions. I'd estimate that these phones probably will have about 5-15% lower capacity vs a new pixel fold just due to the storage conditions. So far, my battery life is really good, but its something to be aware of if you (like me) want to get a couple years or more out of this phone. But, given the storage conditions, this is the only reason I am giving this a 4 star review - not phone quality or design, just the fact that these are all probably sitting at 0% charge, which WILL affect battery lifespan at least a little. That's not Googles fault nor the seller's (they cant open them up and charge them). But its worth noting. But given the price, its almost forgivable. The single most impactful setting for battery life is to disable 120 hz display, and just use 60hz. Yeah, its not as smooth, but it saves a lot of panel and CPU power. That one change seems to make a big difference. i havent had it long enough to say for sure, but it feels like I get 15-25% more battery life JUST from that one change, depending on the display I use the most. We'll see. (2) durability. The hinge can bend backward if you force it. Its natural to want to since the phone doesn't open up to a full 180 degrees, but stretching the thin screen protector and plastic panel material in the center can cause micro tears and let bubbles form. Just open it until you feel that small resistance, and stop, if you want the greatest chance of the screen working well over a year. Also, keep this thing away from water or dirt/dust when its opened! parts of the hinge seem a little exposed, and the inner display is really fragile and basically protected by a thin piece of plastic that can wear and peel. Even fingernails can scratch it (and create a weakened place for air to enter). Yes, it has an IPX8 rating, but I would not trust that when opened. When closed, it should be good to go, just dont open it in a dirty or wet environment - just use the outer display. Also, dont open it hard or fast - firm but intentional pressure ideally not from a corner of the screen, which minimizes shear force on the display. That inner screen, as cool as it is, fails often as they tend to do with foldables, but a little common sense goes a long way in keeping it working. Is it a hassle to worry about? kind of. Will it help your phone inner display last for a year or two at least? probably. Whether its worth it is on you. Overall, if you want a flagship foldable phone with premium build, and want to just trial one before committing to a more expensive one later, or just want to be financially efficient, this is a strong buy at the $575 mark. It will last even power users for at least 2-3 years, is well designed and handsome, and Google says they will support it with OS and security updates through 2028. But dont get it for raw speed or the best cameras. And, you will need to remember that you should pamper the battery a little bit if you want it to last over 2 years holding a good charge, that the hinge has special handling requirements to keep the screen happy, and to avoid opening the phone up in wet or dirty environments, where the most damage can be done. ... show more

  • TL:DR; Don't Buy It
Size: 512GB Style: Phone Only
Absolute Garbage. Never been so careful with a phone in my life and it only lasted 4 months. Opened it up one day to an black inner folding screen. No drop, no damage, just stopped working. Always in an Otter Box case. Sent it back to Google. Their warranty is complete trash. They claim I broke the hinge and this is not covered. Hinge worked 100% when it was sent in. They want more than the phone currently costs to repair it. For reference, I had to switch back to my still working Iphone XR that I have used for 6 years without damage. I will never be buying a google product again. Google has really lost their way. ... show more

  • Best phone I've ever owned
Size: 256GB Style: Phone Only
Oh I love this phone! I had some reservations before I bought it and previously had a Microsoft surface Duo which I left but they quit making. But, I was pleasantly surprised. Once you get used to swiping to move between things, you will absolutely love it. Great processing speed, and a very smart phone. It does all kinds of things my other phones just didn't or couldn't do. Has great storage capacity, is very fast, and very durable. I get comments on it constantly from people who see me using it wanting to buy one because it is so neat. I can never go back to a regular phone again, I am ruined LOL. ... show more

Size: 512GB Style: Phone Only
I’m very happy with my Google Pixel Fold. The build quality feels premium, and the foldable display is smooth and responsive. Multitasking is a big plus - having two apps open side by side makes work and browsing so much easier. The outer screen is bright and sharp, so I can use it comfortably without opening the phone all the time. Battery life has been solid, and the cameras deliver the great image quality you’d expect from Google. Overall, I’m really pleased with this purchase and can definitely recommend the Pixel Fold to anyone considering a foldable phone. ... show more

  • The Best Phone I've Ever Had!
Size: 256GB Style: Phone Only
Google, I Love It! I got my new Google Fold just three days ago. At first, I didn't think I was going to like it. The size hit me right out of the box. My last four Phones were bigger. I had a I Phone 13 Pro, then a Moto G Stylus, Before both of those a Samsung S23 ultra. But I've got to say, out of all the cell phones I have over the years this Google Pixel Fold is by Far my favorite. It took me a short time to get used to it. I watched a few videos and a short time I had it just the way I wanted it. It's a pleasure to read my morning newspaper on the double screen. I love the fingerprint sensor being the same button you turn it on with. The weight is a little heavy, but I've gotten used to it. It feels safe in my hand. I've done a few pictures with it for our online business, and I was happy how they came out. I also found out how to move the keyboard to the center of the double screen which is perfect for an old timer like me. Over the years I've had a lot of different cell phones because I was a salesman on the road. This by far is now the best and my favorite Phone I ever had in my life. Way to go Google! To me its beats Apple! The Google Pixel Fold is awsome! ... show more
