I purchased the Goodyear Extension Cord Retractable Reel knowing that there has been some frustration in the lack of installation instructions and the ability to hang the reel relative to the position of the hanging bracket. I figured there was a sensible solution... and, rest assured, there is! Here are my installation tips and tricks to share for mounting the reel on the wall: - First, test the extension cord to make sure that the product works prior to installation - Locate a preferred location to mount the reel on the wall (within the reach of an electrical outlet) - Draw a line on the wall using a level to line up your template and ensure a level mounting - Create a template (see pic) and mark where the holes need to be drilled in the wall - Pre-drill the holes with a bit that is slightly smaller than the diameter of the mounting screws - (I mounted the unit on an exterior concrete-filled block wall of my garage in FL, so I used a 3/8ths inch concrete carbide tip drill bit with my Makita hammer drill) - (Very Important) Unwind all of the extension cord from the reel to make room for installation and to lighten the weight of the reel while installing - Install the top two screws using a half-inch ratchet, keeping the washers a quarter inch from the wall so you can slide the open-ended holes on the mounting bracket underneath them - Install the screws into the holes at the bottom of the mount using a small half inch ratchet, or use an open end ratcheting wrench (see pic) - (I would have preferred that the open ended holes on the mounting plate were located on the bottom side so that I could rest the reel as I installed the other screws through the holes - you could flip the reel but I wanted the power cord on the right side of the reel relative to the location of my garage door openers) - Tighten all of the screws and ensure that the reel is securely mounted to the wall - Carefully retract the extension cord and manage the cord neatly as you wind it up - Plug in the power cord and perform your first task by plugging in your shop vac and cleaning up the mess :0) See pic of finished product. First, the reel looks awesome. It's built like a tank with steel locking mechanism. I expect this should last a long time. Much of the bad reviews are about the installation difficulties so I've gathered a few tips thanks to all of you. 1) You may need to install a support in your attic above the reel when ceiling mounted. I installed a 2X6 flat between the rafters in the attic to support the reel in the photo. Warning: Drywall alone will not support this reel. The anchors supplied are not for drywall, they are for concrete or block. 2) Buy larger flat washers for the supplied lag bolts. The washers supplied are usable but too small IMO. 3) Create a cardboard template and predrill the holes in your ceiling or wall of the right size. The supplied bolts could vary, I used 7/32 but this might be different for your bolts. Don't make the holes too small or it will be super hard to screw them in, possibly splitting your beam. If you make them too big, the result is obvious. It may fall out. 4) There are “U” shaped holes on one side of the reel. Determine how you want the reel pointed and pre install 2 of the 4 bolts with larger washers. Screw them into your support beam just enough to hold the weight. Like 1.5 inches. The bolts supplied with my reel were 3 inches minimum. If you screw them in too far you won’t be able to start the remaining 2 bolts. 5) Before lifting, extend the cord all the way out until it locks solidly. That way you are not lifting ALL of the electric cord to your ceiling. You just need to manage the wire hanging off the reel until you get one more bolt screwed in far enough to hold the weight. 6) Wrench access is limited. I used a ratcheting box wrench in the photo. Tighten the bolts. Retract your extension into the reel and done.

Good quality reel, I have 2 of the 3/8”x50’ Goodyear air reels as well as this cord reel and it works great. Looks classic in the shop and the triple ended plug works great for multiple tools staying hooked up, retracts like it should, mount is universal enough and comes with hardware if you chose to use it.

Built like a tank, love the color, but I’ve reached out to the manufacturer to find out if there is a way to increase the tension strength. Mine leaves about 8 feet of cable loose and not on the reel. I have a very small shop and I’m constantly tripping over the non-retracted cable almost making it like when I left an extension corded permanently plugged in. The owners manual doesn’t mention if the tension spring can be adjusted. This is easily a 5+ star if this issue can be resolved and a bargain as the only other reels I considered were over $400 from Coxreels or from Reelcraft. Updated to 5 stars. Seller sent a video from the factory showing how to easily increase the tension and it worked like a charm. Very pleased with purchase and seller support
