I have a large chocolate lab who has thick, dark nails. She also hates having her paws touched. I went through a couple of different nail clippers, all of which had some problem. Either there wasn't a guard, so I sometimes cut too short when she squirmed, or they wouldn't actually cut the nail easily. I didn't expect a whole lot given the price, but these work so much better than anything else I've tried. Mine are still sharp enough that I haven't noticed any wear after more than six months. Got these to trim my 90lb pitbull's thick nails and was very happy with how well it worked and has held up. The stopper on the back is super nice because it makes sure that if the dog moves we're not going to over clip and hurt him. My dogs hate having their nails clipped or grinded down, but they were looking ratchet and I didn't want to go through the hassle of loading them in the car and dragging them to the groomers just to have my backseat drenched in saliva. Those things are pretty sharp and even with the little guard, I still nipped a quick and she started to bleed. So be extra careful. My big dog has thick nails but I was able to cut through with little effort. So only cut a little at a time. These clippers actually seemed a little big for my smaller dog, especially using the guard as a guide. But that little hand-held grinder is probably only good on tiny dogs. I usually clip then grind so it worked to where I didn't need to do too much grinding. I think these should hold up awhile. ... show more
