I was interested in finding a good paddle and less interested in the extra stuff. So this review is focused primarily on the paddle. I did a lot of homework before settling on a paddle to start my "pickleball journey". This paddle met all the key characteristics I read for a good basic paddle. I've played with this paddle pretty regularly and often since I got it this past spring and it has held up well. I don't play well enough to say if or when I'll be ready to "move up" in paddles. So I'm happy with my choice. Like I mentioned earlier, I was less interested in the balls and the bag, but they were a nice inclusion at least to get started with. I've played pickleball with other brands of balls and found that I prefer the Franklin ones most. But the ones that come with the set are better than nothing and definitely playable. The bag is nice but the shoulder strap became unreliable when it came apart at the seam where it attached to the bag (I've since tied that end to the top handle strap).

I've been playing pickleball for a few months and have tried a few different paddles. I bought these as my first starter set. They worked great and are perfect for someone who wants to get into the sport but doesn't want to break the bank. As your game improves you'll start to look to add other aspects to your game which will make you look at other paddles. This paddle does not have much texture so it won't provide a ton of spin to your shots. I've used it quite a bit over the last few months and the paddle has held up very well. It's not chipping or showing any signs of major use.

I am new to the game of Pickleball, so my knowledge of what to expect from the equipment is limited. But I can share intrinsic feelings and thoughts : 1. the paddle is light weight 2. the handle feels good for my grip pattern 3. the ball responds well when struck 4. the carrying case and balls are nice and very useful value added items. There are many options and brands available that it can be daunting to choose, esp. when you are not sure of what to look for. With that said, I read reviews and looked at the features/offerings and price and chose somewhere in the middle. Comparatively speaking, this set is a fraction of the cost of higher end/priced paddles, but I am a beginner and I feel the Gonex set is a good start. It feels similar to the paddles at my Rec. Center ( which are probably cheaper versions).
