  • The Goliath The Sims Board Game is primarily for Sims fans.
# ✏️ Review: Goliath The Sims Board Game The **Goliath The Sims Board Game** attempts to translate the beloved life-simulation franchise into a tabletop experience, with a focus on fulfilling aspirations, managing Sim needs, and encountering chaotic "life" events. It manages to capture the whimsical spirit of the video game, but its execution has led to mixed reviews from both casual and dedicated board game enthusiasts. ## ✨ The Good: Capturing the *Sims* Vibe * **Authentic Theme and Components:** The game immediately draws fans in with its vibrant art, iconic **Plumbob movers** (the diamond above a Sim's head), and a fun **Needs Tracker** board for each player. References to iconic Sims, furniture, and in-game events are scattered throughout, giving it a strong nostalgic appeal. * **Accessible and Family-Friendly:** Many players praise the game for being a **breezy, easy-to-learn** experience, especially for those who aren't intense hobby board gamers. It's often cited as a good choice for a casual family game night or for introducing younger *Sims* fans to board games. * **Unique Sim Stories:** The core loop of collecting "SIMbol" tokens to complete Aspiration Cards and attract Iconic Sims creates a sense of charting a unique, unpredictable life path, echoing the "play with life" motto of the video game. ## 📉 The Not-So-Good: Gameplay and Depth * **Shallow and Repetitive Gameplay:** The most common criticism is that the game lacks long-term depth. The core loop of "Go Out" to a location, draw cards, manage needs, and "Go Home" to restore needs can feel **repetitive** over multiple plays. Serious board gamers have described it as a "shallow cash grab" that misses opportunities for deeper strategy. * **Rules Complexity vs. Depth:** Paradoxically, while the overall gameplay is light, some players find the initial rule set to be a bit **convoluted** or confusing to teach, especially considering the lack of strategic payoff. The rules for interactions between players and Iconic Sims can sometimes feel clunky. * **Not the Next "Classic" Board Game:** While it's a solid, thematic game, it's not likely to be a "staple" on a regular game night rotation. Its main appeal is its *Sims* branding, and without that, the mechanics themselves are generally considered **serviceable** but not outstanding. ## 🎲 Core Gameplay Summary The goal of the game is to be the first to collect **8 Aspiration Points**. 1. **Aspirations:** Players draw Aspiration Cards (like Wealth or Knowledge) which require a set of "SIMbol" icons to complete. 2. **Turn Action:** On their turn, a player chooses to either **Go Out** (travel to a location, collect an Action Card based on the location's icons, and lower a need) or **Go Home** (restore two needs, draw/discard an Aspiration Card). 3. **Needs:** Players manage a Needs Tracker (like Fun, Hunger, Energy). Visiting a location lowers a specific need; if a need reaches a critical level, a Sim may be "taken by the Grim Reaper" (losing progress). 4. **Iconic Sims:** Players can earn a one-point **Iconic Sim** card (e.g., Bob Pancakes) by being the first to visit a location after a Sim moves there. ## 🎯 Verdict The **Goliath The Sims Board Game** is **primarily for *Sims* fans,** especially those who are looking for a light, thematic experience that can be enjoyed with family or friends who are also familiar with the franchise. * **Buy it if:** You are a huge *Sims* enthusiast who wants a collectible item, or you are looking for a quick, fun, and easy-to-learn game with a strong theme for casual players. * **Skip it if:** You are a serious board game collector who prioritizes deep strategy, complex mechanics, or high replayability in your tabletop games. Overall, it's a **fun distraction** that wears its theme well, making it a pleasant way to bring the digital world of the Sims to your kitchen table. ... show more

  • Awesome game for the sim lover!
I cannot say enough about this game!! I bought this as a gift for my coworker and we played it on our lunch break. We are both simmers!! It did take a minute to understand the game. The instruction were great and once I read them understood quickly how to play. You can make the game short or long. I thought it was a decent price. It easy to carry around although the box is a bit bulky. You could definitely take a break and come back if needed. I would say it’s a mix between the game of life and monopoly. ... show more

  • Great Game.
Great game I got it for my brother for Christmas. We all ended up playing it, it takes a bit to understand the rules but once you get it down it’s really fun!

  • Great for the Simmer in your life
Super nice and thick quality of the cards and the broad. The instructions can get confusing but you could just look online for a tutorial on how to play. With 5 players for the first time it took about a hour for someone to win.

  • Easy to learn, awesome to play !
I absolutely am super thrilled to have more sims games , especially being a board game version !!! I love board games so this was a treat ! You basically use your characters to go to different venues, play event cards , you have your health and wellness tracker too , like hunger, bathroom time , sleep etc. typical sims language! It’s super easy to learn and great quality of a game. I’m so happy to own this one. It’s a small ish game so traveling with it is not a big deal. Would easily fit into a standard size tote bag. The pacing is fun , going back and forth to travel , meet iconic sims , you have to match the symbols on your cards , and locations too progress. The person who completed there aspirations and collect the most points for it wins. Highly HIGHLY recommended , especially for any sims fan !! ... show more

  • Good as a Collectable..
I got this for my 19 year old daughter... It's great for an avid Sims lover, though I don't know anything about it... It apparently has all the same Sim lingo to it and the people, all of the same stuff in the actual games you'd play via video... My actual thoughts on this after trying to play this game with her and my husband as a 3 player, I feel like this should be more of a collectible item... It's definitely not easy to play or even learn. We even tried looking it up on YouTube and TikTok videos to get the gist of playing it and how to. Also read the instructions... On every single YouTube video we pulled up to watch, they all stated something about how so many people were having trouble understanding how to play the game.. Even on blogs, it's the same thing... It's incredibly difficult as there are many things to do when it's your turn. You don't simply just roll the dice and play the game.. Even for my daughter who's been playing Sims for years, didn't understand the whole 1 and 3, first one to 8 wins on the point system... Great quality though and a good value, if unopened and collecting... Unless you fully understand how to play the game completely... Still will continue trying to figure it out because it does seem like it would be fun if your able to... ... show more

  • Cute simple game!
I heard some bad things about this game on a few boardgame review videos, but we had a good time playing it. It's simple and laid back. Overall I don't regret it it's nice to have an easy laid back option in our collection.

  • Don’t bother.
Worst board game. Came with unclear instructions and even digging through all of the sims groups I’m in and YouTube, I still couldn’t figure it out nor could anyone else. The few that said they “knew how to play it” wouldn’t explain it but said it was “too boring to explain” which led me to believe they didn’t know either. ... show more
