This is one of those things a person should have in case--like an umbrella--such that they won't actually need to use it. But additionally it's tough to "test" it without needing to use it, too. From all appearances and inspection, it appears that it will do the job well. I do have concern about how long it will remain easily moving and free of rust, etc., that will assure its longevity of use, but I'll do my best to dry it between uses if and when they occur. Looks like it will be a good one...when I need it.

Here's the thing about carrying a ball retriever in your bag: it screams "hack" to everyone who sees it. Check that: "cheap hack". When you're with your buddies and you hit one in the water or the desert and you can see it but can't get to it with one of your irons, it would be so easy to grab it with a ball retriever, but you're not gonna be that guy who has a retriever sticking out of his bag next to his putter for all to see. The howls of derision are just not worth it. This guy, however, folds down so small that you can just hide him in a side pocket of your bag and produce it when you are playing with, say, your wife, who loves you and would never judge you. Great for when you and your wife are playing as a twosome behind four slow golfers and you see 8 balls just sitting in the water while you're standing there for 5 minutes waiting to hit your next shot. Usually, a couple of those bottom dwellers are ProV1's. The retriever is about 14" and extends to a full 9 ft. The grab mechanism is excellent on dry land (yank it out of a cactus, e.g.) and I have yet to try it in the water. The cap at the end was badly cracked and fell off immediately, which is kind of a bummer, but it works just fine. Let's chalk it up to an unlucky shipment and keep the 5 stars intact!

I received this a couple days ago and I can't wait to try it out----although that would mean my ball went in the water and that is not where I want my golf game to go. LOL! Upon opening the package the first thing I noticed was the weight of the retriever and the rubberized feel of the grip. It feels like a good quality made retriever. It is telescoping from 17 inches to 9 feet. The head grips the ball well with minimal pressure, so I'm confident it will easily "grab" my ball if (or should I say when) my ball ends up in the bottom of a water hazard. I'm not sure how they determined the head of the retriever to be unbreakable and that is not something I am deliberately going to try to do. If for some reason this retriever does not live up to expectations, I'll let you know in an updated review. This is a piece of equipment that every golfer should have in their bag and hope they never have to use it. It would make an excellent Father's Day or Mother's Day gift.

Ball retrievers are time and money savers for most of us ardent but average golfers. I've had many types and sizes and I like this one (so far.) First, it is a good size at nine feet, it fold down pretty small while not too heavy to carry. The head uses friction to grasp a ball. There are two rings on the inside of either side of the ring which will hold the ball by friction without it being all the way inside the case or force the ball all the way into the case if needed. I use the least force possible to retrieve balls. I have broken several of this kind of telescoping shaft by pressing too hard. This shaft is a bit smaller diameter than those older shafts so I try to keep the smallest sections unextended. If the last (smallest) section is extended then I try to be really gentle when retrieving a ball. Good retriever, if it holds up under (too much) everyday use.

Overall the product does what its supposed to do: - It extends more than far enough. - Very easy to extend However some cons: - When fully extended there isn't enough pressure to get the ball and its awkward to scoop it. At those longer distances either a grabber or bucket would work better. - I had to scoop a ball in the water like 5x before I finally could get it...whereas with a bucked I would have had first scoop. I think I'd rate this product as decent - it does work. Just understand its not perfect. I'd like to give is 3.75 stars.
