  • Excellent bass for the money!
Size: IB-Style Color: Natural Wood
This is a $75 bass! Let's not kid ourselves. But you do get a lot for your money: PROs - * Neck feels great, raw maple feels good. * Fret work is surprisingly excellent. No sharp ends at all, frets leveled, no buzzing (after truss rod adjustment). * Fit and finish are excellent! Only flaw I found on mine is a tiny tooling mark on the 12 fret. * Tone from both pickups are excellent! Honestly not inclined to upgrade. * Tuners are excellent * Hardware are generic so easy to swap. I already ordered black bridge and tuners to complete the look. * Super light body (which can be a CON to some). CONs - * Needed a quick trussrod adjustment (par for thr course even with more expensive guitars really) * Neck pickup tone pot produces a noticeable hiss when cranked up, could be grounding issue. You only hear it when playing low volumes, completely negligible in band setting. * Weird tone pot wiring - each one acts as a master tone knob. Not wrong just unusual. * Tooling mark on the 12th fret * Neck heavy and does neck dive. I struggle to even name the CONs as I remember picking up Squires for twice the price back in the 90s that are not even as playable let alone sound as nice! Seriously just buy one. Amazon's got you protected if you do get a lemon. Perfect garage or throw around anywhere bass. Only thing that beats this thing is if you find a used Ibanez/Yamaha, but even those go for a pretty penny these days, certainly not $75. ... show more

  • Great choice for beginners or backup axe
Size: GJ-Style Color: Transparent Yellow
This review will cover both the utility of the GJazz for beginners, and its value as a platform for upgrades/modification. My Glarry arrived earlier than expected, well protected and completely undamaged. Unboxing it revealed a mixed bag. Most issues I have revolve around the neck, and the finishing. Neck is solidly made of hard maple and a nice rosewood slab fretboard. The edges on the headstock are done a bit crudely, and the Glarry logo appears to be silkscreened on. It isn't coated, and might easily rub off. It is sharp and clear. The frets are installed cleanly. The fret ends are not sharp, but could use more finishing. Frets themselves could use a final buff. The tuners are a trifle rough; easy fix with a dab of light grease. They do have a bit of backlash. They tune well enough, and do hold tune. The GJazz is sold as a substitute or analog for the Fender Jazz Bass, but the neck is completely different in profile. Width at the nut is more like a Precision, and it is thicker too. Players with smaller hands will need to get used to it. It is not heavy enough to neck dive, and it does-JUST- balance. The neck plate, bridge, and control plate are all heavy steel stampings, well-chromed. The pickguard is a good quality laminated vinyl part, black/white/black in color with good beveled edges. It fits well. The body is by far the best feature. The grain is beautiful, and the clear yellow finish is deep, flawless, and accents the wood grain. So how does it work? Setup was pretty good. Intonation is in, but the string action is high. It plays well, but when the action is lowered, it plays GREAT. There are no buzzy frets or dead spots. The tones available are varied, and it sounds good on either or both pickups. There is some 60-cycle hum present, but this cancels with the volume full on both pickups (like a Jazz Bass). It has a nice, snappy high end, especially on the bridge pickup. It lacks some punch on the bottom end, but still sounds good. Controls all work as they should. This bass is VERY light, and easy to handle. Overall, this bass would make an excellent first choice for a beginner. It's not perfect, but it plays and sounds really good. It is beautiful to look at, too! Recommended. For you modders and hot-rodders, it's still a good choice. I didn't especially like the neck and tuners, but the knobs, control plate, neck plate, pickguard, and body were all quite good and I used them. I added two knobs from IKN. The bridge is good quality too, but I went with a Musiclily cast zinc bridge and Wilkinson brass saddles for more mass. The body is GORGEOUS and ready to use. Neck pocket routing was slightly rough, but exactly right for a standard Fender-style heel block. Controls work fine, but the pots are light-duty and small. Pickups are NOT standard Jazz Bass sized, they are a bit smaller. Not a problem for my build, as I upgraded to BQLZR musicman type humbuckers. Pots were replaced with TAOT 500k, and capacitors replaced with 22microfarad polys. A switch was added, and a Les Paul patterned circuit was used for fully independent control of the pickups. On the control plate, all 4 holes were drilled to accept 4 fullsized pots. A Musiclily endplate with jack was added to move the input jack to the edge of the body. The tuners were replaced with Fender Highway Ones, and the neck with a Kmise paddle headstock in Jazz Bass profile. Headstock was shaped like a Jazz, decaled, and lacquered. I fabricated a brass nut from a piece of music-grade 1/8" brass plate. The strap buttons were replaced with Planet Waves oval strap keepers. This was an easy and fun build. The hardest part was making a routing template to mount the pickups, and freehand routing a switch pocket and channel! All assembled, my GJazz was transformed into a funk monster. Action is low and soft, it has tons of output, and the tones are KILLER. It is so punchy and bright! It's also completely hum-free at all settings. You may question the amount of work investment in this project, but look at it this way: Where else can you get a gorgeous brand new Jazz Bass body, finished, for a paltry $103? All the other useful pieces are a bonus!! Cost of this project all-in is about $250, and it is EXACTLY what I was looking for. To sum up, I recommend the Glarry GJazz enthusiastically. It works right in both roles that it's suitable for, and it would also be a fantastic backup or spare bass. Get one while they're cheap and plentiful! ... show more

  • Cannot believe how great this bass is.
Size: GJ-Style Color: Natural Yellow
I consider myself a seasoned bassist. Started with a fender squier and moved up to typical P and Jazz basses over the past couple decades or so. I bought this since I have moved out of state and needed to jam on something since I had to keep my equipment at home. I am blown away at how great this bass looks, plays, and feels. For 69.99 I had low expectations, but cannot be more happier with this purchase. I don't know how Glarry makes a decent quality bass this cheap. It is not perfect as I find my E string picks up slightly more prominently than my other strings (which is fixable), but otherwise this is an excellent practice bass or even low-end gig bass for this price. Probably the best 69 bucks I have ever spent. ... show more

  • UNBEATABLE PRICE!
Size: GJ-Style Color: Sunset Gold
If you know how to do guitar setups then this bass is an absolute bargain. The body is excellent finish, Surprisingly the neck was straight and little work needed to level the frets.I put an upgraded bridge on this and a new tortoiseshell pick guard. Now it looks even better and sounds great. This bass is great for anyone with a budget and willing to do the work toturn it into a very playable instrument. Also change the strings to La Bella or D'Addario Throw away those Chinese strings that come with it. ... show more

  • Good quality for the price
Size: IB-Style Color: Red
Purchased a used model for well under new price. Bass is well made, all controls work fine, tuners are adequate, finish is well done. Comes with gig bag with is very thin, strap also thin and useless, and hex keys which are standard. After a cleanup, oiling the fretboard, and adding new strings it plays very well. Great value for the price. Excellent for beginners. ... show more

  • Great Starter Bass Guitar - Great Seller - Great Price
Size: IB-Style Color: Natural Wood
First, I'll admit that my background is with classical guitar, not electric bass, but I purchased this learn the instrument. The guitar is truly impressive for the price point. Very nice finish. Solid feel. Reasonably good electronics. The body is basswood making the guitar much lighter than higher end instruments, but I don't have any problems with neck droop. The bolt-on neck itself is straight and the frets are smooth. The finish on the guitar is glossy, but the finish on the back of the neck is satin to allow faster left hand movement. The tuners are suprisingly smooth for a low-cost instrument and allow fine adjustments. It came with a lightweight gig bag, nylon strap, amp cable and allen wrenches. You'll need a couple of Philips screwdrivers and a small wrench too if you want to change any settings or tighten potentiometers. The gig bag is just thin nylon, but it's good enough to transport the guitar short distances. I didn't like the nylon strap, so I upgraded to a cotton one I found on Amazon. The guitar I received needed a little more neck bow, which I was able to modify using the included wrench. You'll need a jewelers Philips screwdriver to remove the truss rod cover. The action was also extremely high at 3.5mm at the 12th fret. I lowered it to 2.0mm to be closer to an accoustic guitar, but experienced bass players might want it higher. Lowering the action and setting intonation was fairly easy on the bridge. Again, you'll need a Philips screwdriver to change intonation. If you don't know what any of this means, take it to a guitar shop for adjustment. The sound is very good for a low cost instrument. My guitar teacher compared it to his high end bass, and after a few tweaks of the pots, and was also impressed with the sound and build quality. He was also happy with the action and string response. The seller, Glarry Music, has been extremely responsive. The shipping company misplaced the first guitar. Glarry apologized and immediately sent me a replacement. They will send me a return label for the first guitar for when, and if, it appears. My only concern with this purchase is the packaging. The cheap cardboard box and styrofoam enclosure was nearly split in two when it arrived. Fortunately, the guitar was just fine. This guitar won't immediately make you sound like Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke or Flea, but I think you'll be impressed. Go to Glarry Music's website and watch the pros play this guitar and you'll definitely be sold. I'll update this review in the future if I run into problems, but at first glance I think my $125 was extremely well spent. NOTE: I did not receive any compensation or free products for this review. I paid the full $125 list price on Amazon. I despise the paid reviews as they are always positive and I wish Amazon would ban them. ... show more

  • Sounds great
Size: GJ-Style Color: Sunset Gold
I have expensive guitars and wanted a bass to build accompanying loops. The inexpensive bass worked perfectly. I’m not a pro so I don’t know all of the nuances pros look for. Therefore, for hobby players like me the money saved was well worth it.
