I bought this helmet hoping I would never have to find out how well it worked. Unfortunately, during a long ride, I hit a significant root heave at around 13–15 mph and crashed hard. My head struck the pavement, and the helmet cracked in multiple places. While seeing the helmet damaged was shocking, it did exactly what it was designed to do—absorb the impact. I walked away without any head injury symptoms, and the helmet clearly took the force of the crash. I ended up with a painful hip injury, but my head was protected. The helmet was comfortable, fit well, and most importantly, performed when it mattered most. I've already ordered a replacement because, after this experience, I have a lot of confidence in its protective capabilities. A helmet's true value is revealed during a crash, and this one earned every one of these five stars.

I'm not a fan of bike helmets. They used to be uncomfortable, wind noisy, hard to fit, and clumsy to put on and take off. Visors were often not an option, wearing glasses was problematic, and you looked ridiculous when wearing them. But I'm also not a fan of dying from a crash in a world where I want to ride my bicycle as much as possible for its exercise benefits, environment-friendly effects, and low cost of operation. I live in a low-density hamlet where biking isn't really a gladiatorial combat experience, so I just crossed my fingers and hoped for the best. My friends finally coerced me into buying a helmet. There're a lot of bad, oblivious and distracted drivers out there. After a lot of looking around, I chose the Giro Fixture - price was a concern, color was important, style was a consideration. Well, boy howdy, have things changed! The MIPS Giro Fixture is very easy to fit securly with its knob at the back that is effortlessly adjusts every time you put the helmet on. The chin-strap is your basic squeeze-release buckle, well off-center so it doesn't pinch my chin, and the inside itself if very comfortable against my skull. The included visor could be a little longer, but does its bit in more or less keeping the sun out of my eyes. The ventilation is good, but there's still wind noise that interferes with the silence I would prefer if it didn't expose my cranium to deadly impact. Oh well, I guess life is a series of compromises. If you're like me and object to anything that intrudes between me and the environment when I'm cycling, wearing the Giro Fixture when you ride is a compromise that you can live with. Literally.

My head size is a 59cm. Bought this in a 'universal adult 54-61cm'. I tried some expensive helmets on, like the POC Tectal Race Spin NFC, which was either too tight or fit like a bucket. A properly fitting helmet feels better, looks better, and most importantly is SAFER! Some of those other brands fit horribly because for some reason bicycle helmet manufacturers only make 3 measly sizes. WTF? Motorcycle helmets from either AGV or Bell can be sized to fit like a glove but not bicycle helmets. I tried Bell bicycle helmets also but to no avail. I do have a Bell bicycle helmet about 8 years old which does fit quite well but needs to be replaces soon. I think I'll go back to Giro for a new road bike helmet due to my head size and what mold sizes the different manufactures choose to use. This was the 3rd helmet I tried from Amazon. I started buying motorcycle helmets in the early 70s and have never had trouble. I've been biking since the late 70's but have only been buying bicycle helmets since the mid 80's because they were not popular in the sport and basically weren't even made ( unless one considers the old hairnets a helmet ). Had a Brancale in the mid-80's (what a joke those were). Bicycle helmets have always been problematic to get a good one which fits properly and therefore is safe. If one must use that clicker on the headband for than one or 2 clicks then, I believe that one is sacrificing comfort and safety. I have found that if one is frugal and takes ones time a lot of money does not need to be spent in order to procure a good looking safe helmet. I speak from experience as I have lost track of how many helmets I have destroyed: a few motorcycle helmets, a hang glider helmet, and a few bicycle helmets. UPDATE 2021/01/18 Ended up with a Giro in a 'universal adult 54-61cm'. A properly fitting helmet feels better, looks better, and most importantly is SAFER! I tried on several bike helmets and this one was the most comfortable and fit the best. I liked that it wrapped around and slightly under the back of my head and is fully adjustable for tightness by turning the knob on the back of the helmet. With the MIPS design, it should provide better protection than a standard helmet. With the built in visor, this model look more sleek than the typical brain bucket. Less than $100 makes this helmet a good value for your money.
