  • Saved my life!
Color: Matte White/Silver (2021) Size: Large (59-63 cm)
Saved my life! Without being too dramatic, I have 100% faith in this helmet. On a steep downhill recently I missed my turn and smacked into a mountain. Probably going 30 miles an hour. It hurt. Broke my collarbone my scapula and a couple of ribs. Did I mention it hurt. I also did not realize until later that I also had a couple of dents in my helmet. The doctor told me the helmet probably saved my life. I can’t guarantee you won’t get a concussion, but I didn’t. I’ll be buying this helmet again. ... show more

  • Not Bowled Over
Color: Matte Portaro Grey/White/Red (2021) Size: Large (59-63 cm)
My initial impressions are only "OK," though it should be noted that I only opened the box about 15 minutes ago. For such an expensive helmet, I expected my excitement level to be the same AFTER opening the box as it was BEFORE opening the box. First of all, according to Giro sizing instructions, I should've ordered a size "M," however I did not - I ordered a size L. I'm 6ft tall, 200lbs and nothing I own is size M - not gloves, shoes, pants, shirts, hats or other helmets. In fact, I know my head is quite large and many times is in the 2XL category. The size L fits great, with plenty of adjustment either way - if the M has such broad adjustment of the L, then perhaps an M could fit, too? As for the helmet itself, it's just hard to believe that this small bit of lightweight plastic and foam costs $300. In my hands and in front of my eyes, it's an underwhelming helmet. Next, the item I selected indicated this was a 2021 model, yet the internal sticker says 2020 - perhaps this isn't a big deal. However, a bigger deal is that the "Spherical" sticker, visible in online photos on the right-rear of the helmet, is absent. Anybody buying this helmet paid a lot of money for "MIPS Spherical," and I would like the sticker to be there. Indeed, the helmet has the MIPS Spherical technology - that's obvious, but it's kind of like buying a Mercedes-Benz AMG and not getting the AMG badge. Next, in certain "unboxing" videos, the unboxer removes the helmet from the box and the helmet is in a lightweight bag. It’s similar to the kind of bag that a nice pair of shoes comes in - a cotton or microfleece bag that helps protect the shoes if traveling in, for example, a suitcase. My helmet did not come with a bag. A $300 helmet ought to have a travel bag. Nor did the helmet did come with additional/spare pads – in the helmet, there are three small "regular" pads and one brow pad - extra pads would be nice. My $90 Giro Fathom helmet from five years ago came with additional pads. A $300 helmet ought to come with spare pads. Lastly, what looks like a nice paint job in online photos is, in reality, what appears to be a "cheap" sticker applique. I bought the gray-red-white version of the Aether and it appears, online, that there is a texture or a fade on the gloss white portion that gives the helmet a cool, almost custom look. In person, it looks like a clear sticker with lots of bubbles underneath. The feel is smooth, so there are no bubbles, but it looks cheap - almost like it's a clear, protective, hastily applied protective sticker over the white paint. It's not - it's the actual, intentional finish to the helmet and it's disappointing. The helmet is only 15 minutes old and I'm already worried that this “sticker finish” will chip and peel. I know the real cost of this helmet is on the development side, not on the materials side, but I wish Giro took a few extra steps (bag, extra pads, actual paint rather than a sticker) to make the customer feel like they were getting more bang for their buck. Other issues, like the 2020 vs. 2021 and the missing "Spherical" decal, are additional disappointments. I have no doubt the Giro Aether is a great helmet and will protect my head better than other, non-MIPS Spherical helmets (that's why I bought it), but I expected more from Giro at this price point. ... show more

  • Expensive but nice
Color: Highlight Yellow/Black (2020) Size: Small (51-55 cm)
Got hit by a slow moving car while on my bike. Luckily only many bruises and a dented helmet. Bought this helmet to replace dented one that did not have MIPS. This helmet is outrageously expensive but given my unfortunate experience, thought I should get a helmet with the latest MIPS technology. Helmet is not heavy on my head which is important to me. Straps are easy to adjust. Air vents work well. Ratching system works as expected. Since I ride in an upright position, helmet did not obscure my vision as some online reviews have suggested. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for...Awesome helmet.
Color: Matte White/Silver (2021) Size: Medium (55-59 cm)
Needed another helmet I own a Vanquish MIPS. LOVE IT. Very Aero and visors are WAY better than glasses for me. FWIW TIP...I also used stick on Bi-focal lenses that make it even BETTER (for those that need em...you know who you are...B/C they take up a lot less of the total viewing area on a visor than a pair of glasses) I wanted something aero and a bit cooler and white....Aether MIPS checked ALL the boxes...and then some...excellent fit system and it LOOOOKS MARVOOLUS too! VERY good airflow. I had a SYNTHE MIPS previously (loved it too) and crashed at about 20mph....dented and imbedded with pebbles ...hit hard right behind/above right ear....walked (limped) away....everyone amazed at how fvqked my helmet was...but I was fine.... I'm never gonna cheap out or be a retarded weight weenie on a helmet...All these Giro's I've had are light and incredibly good at what they do. ... show more

  • Crazy expensive, very comfortable, seems likely good protection
Color: Matte Ano Green/Highlight Yellow (2021) Size: Large (59-63 cm)
I always wear giro helmets and am very happy with them, even and especially for mountain viking. I had had a couple different crashes on mountain bikes and the helmets always have done there job. Once in particular I had a fairly good bang on the head that caused no injury whatsoever because it bounced off the helmet. (Let's not talk about the fractured shoulder, however.) These helmets are super expensive but I generally "spare no expense" when it comes to protecting my head, so I am willing to pay the $. But I have no way to judge if the protection is proportionately better than that of less expensive helmets. Yes, these are absolutely very good. But are they twice as good as $140 helmets? Not sure about that. I guess maybe we pay a 100% premium for 10% better protection? But maybe that's a worthwhile trade off for some people. ... show more

  • Great Ventilation
Color: Matte Blue (2020) Size: Large (59-63 cm)
Coming for a 50 dollar bell helmets in the past, I just want to treat myself to a nicer helmet and saw this one on sale. Price was right, I took the plunge. I had high expectations and they were fulfilled. MIPs is great, but something I hope to never find out how well it works. What really sold me on this helmet was the ventilation. Being a bald rider, even the smallest drops of sweat seems to find its way to the eyes or sunglasses. I noticed a substantial reduction of sweat wearing this helmet. Sunglasses holder is also an awesome touch. I don't think there a huge percieved difference between the cheap and expensive helmets. I just think the Giro is much more refined so worth it in my mind. ... show more

  • Good Company to order from, terrible design by Giro
Color: Matte Blue (2020) Size: Large (59-63 cm)
Great experience ordering from the company I purchased on Amazon. However, look elsewhere for a higher quality helmet (especially at this price point). Front edge of helmet (blue part) is essentially glued to the helmet and after less than two weeks the front part of the helmet is delaminating. NOT the sellers fault, entirely Giros fault. Look elsewhere or be disappointed with the money you spent. ... show more
