Unlock your Y travel with this upgrade, it's fast and easy. Greatly increase the Y travel on your 3018. Installation was a breeze, the kit came with a longer Y limit switch cable. I purchased this with the Genmitsu T-Slot Table 3040 Extension Aluminum Spoilboard. The difference is night and day. I'm able to work much larger pieces and completely satisfied with the purchase. One reviewer wrote something about having to cut the rails, not sure what they did wrong, but I didn't have to modify anything. I have performed a few other upgrades to the CNC but this one was by far, the most useful. The upgrade with the 3040 extension will take you about 25-30 mins to convert your 3018 to a 3040. If you're looking for more Y axis travel then get this upgrade, you won't be disappointed.

Installing the Y-axis is an easy process, even with Sainsmart/Genmitsu instructions. Anyone that has seen their manuals knows what I'm talking about. They aren't very clear, but they'll get you there. The T-nuts don't fit the slots well, making the process more time consuming than it should be. After reassembly, the Y-axis is 33.8 mm or 13 5/16 in, or about double. The extra length is nice to have. As for CNC operations, change your work area/ material dimensions in the program. The ability to make larger creations also means completion times are longer. Depending on the level of detail desired, material size and thickness, the 3018, even with the Y extension, is just another tool in my box. I am mystified that Sainsmart's order page say it's discontinued and out of stock, but Sainsmart sent it to me when I ordered it through Amazon. It even arrived a day earlier than the arrival date predicted.

I upgraded one of the 3018 I have and it took about 30 minutes. Quality seems good for what it is. I took off one star since it’s not really an upgrade to 3040. It’s really 300 x 330 now. Still a good deal but the vendor shouldn’t call it a 3040 upgrade.

Was given a 3018 prover and wanted a larger bed, so got this to extend the Y axis. All parts fit perfectly, and there was a replacement cable for the limit switch. I also got the 3040 aluminum spoilboard kit form genmitsu so I installed both at the same time. The extra area is nice to have.

When I bought my Pro 3018 I bought these at the same time, I just clicked on the link form amazon for amazon. I didn't pay attention that there are 2 version, boy to I feel dumb. Since I brought the wrong kit the guide rods are 10mm too long. I looked at reviews of other people claiming the same thing and some even altering them. So I thought it was a milling mistake and got a replacement. Of course the replacement was wrong too that's when I noticed my idiot mistake. I returned the other ones and bought the correct ones and it was perfect, I have 0 issues putting it together and after using this for a couple of weeks I don't have any complaints so far.

Before you buy this, you should know that the outer rails are only 450mm long. They would have to be 520mm long to get a true 40 cm of useful travel in the Y axis. (The linear guide rails are similarly sized.) The actual capacity is 30x32 cm, and you only get that by making further modifications in both the X and Y feeds. I ordered this and then left on a month-long trip, so I didn't discover that this was so under-sized until I returned. If I had known earlier, I would have returned it. A true 520mm-long upgrade kit is available elsewhere, for only a few dollars more. Don't buy this unless you will be satisfied with 30 cm in Y instead of 40 cm. Revised 6/17/24 After sending messages to SainSmart, they agree that this is really a 30cm upgrade, not a 40cm upgrade and have refunded the cost. To be clear, if all you need is 30cm in Y and you don’t mind a lot of setup time resquaring and fitting everything, this is a very cost-effective expansion. It’s just not a 3040, or anywhere near that.
