Description

Generac’s 6852 HomeLink™ upgradeable manual transfer switch is a pre-wired electrical device that’s installed next to your home’s circuit panel. During an outage, it delivers power to hard-wired appliances (such as furnace, well pump and lights) with the push of a button, safely and easily – eliminating the need for multiple extension cords. It comes standard with 8 circuits, expandable to 10 circuits. When you’re ready to install an automatic home standby generator, a certified electrician will change out the panel located in the HomeLink with an automatic switch upgrade panel and new faceplate – and it’s ready to be connected to a home standby generator (11 kW maximum).

  • Perfect!
Pattern Name: Switch Kit Style: 30-Amp + Aluminum PIB
We installed this next to our breaker panel to run the essential circuits for emergency backup power - our fridges & freezers, well pump, upstairs furnace etc. It was easy to install, and seems like it's the same high quality as our Generac generator. Our mountain ranch is sort of remote, and our farmhouse is almost 100 years old, so power can get sketchy during bad weather. We lost power for over 8 hours one day, my husband hooked up the generator to the transfer switch and fired it up... worked like a charm! We were able to keep the essentials running while we got the wood stove roaring and lit the antique oil lamps for lighting at supper time - our kids thought it was fun, like a taste of old pioneer life, while we had peace of mind knowing our modern conveniences worked, so our food wouldn't spoil and we could still use running water and have heat upstairs. Perfect combo! Really glad we went ahead and got this. ... show more

  • Know what you are up against or hire a professional
Pattern Name: Switch Kit Style: 30-Amp + Resin PIB
Instructions could have bigger illustrations. I read blogs of Generac should have supplied wires and a 50 amp breaker. I beg the differ as there are at least half a dozen Manufactures of breakers out there. And how much wire is enough? I did buy a circuit breaker as suggested by Generac that matched my breaker box. Placement of the inlet box will differ from one home to another thus you would need to figure out how much wire you must buy or replace the supplied wires for longer ones. Then I read blogs saying they cant hook up a 120v generator. Wrong, you can as I have. Some folks didn't do some homework. Generac input box comes with a L14 input that is ready for 220 volts and there are 2 legs of 110 v that add up to 220v. There is a L14 to L5 Dongle you must get but must be labeled Bridged. I am happy with my unit and I did take time to install and perform custom installation as we all have different needs and configurations. Good Luck to all. 9/8/2020, I am adding additional info, although I was able to use my 120v generator and the transfer switch will return to utility on the panel when utility returns. However, switching to generator operation requires a manual activation unless you have a 220v generator. A 220v generator purchase is in the works for me. This way I will not need the dongle and can use the 4 prong L14 extension cord. Thank you for allowing me to share my experiences. ... show more

  • Really nice upgrade over previous Generac products
Pattern Name: Switch Kit Style: 30-Amp + Aluminum PIB
I installed this in my brothers house to enable him to plug in his 7500 watt Generac generator. This was not the easiest install I have ever done but the final result is good and it works very nicely. What made it difficult is that this product is wired to transfer all of the neutral wires over to the box instead of just the hot leads. Not sure I understand it, but perhaps it is code or best practices, but it made the install a bit more difficult than others I have done. That being said the single switch transfer and power indicator lights make it worth the effort. Switching back and forth from Generator to Grid is as easy as pushing a button. Others require you to turn off breakers on the main box box and Auxiliary box, but this is done very nicely. A little bit more expensive than Reliance Products but more flexible and a nicer final install. ... show more

  • Backup power from our F150 Powerboost
Pattern Name: Switch Kit Style: 30-Amp + Resin PIB
We purchased a 2023 Ford F150 Powerboost. It has the capability to provide 7.2Kw of power from the bed of the truck. The Generac 6853 HomeLink Upgradeable 30 Amp Transfer Switch Kit allows us to plug in the 240v 30 amp service from the F150 to provide power in emergency situations. So living in Florida I have a generator that I can use anywhere power is needed. Great interface for power outages that occur. ... show more

  • Great Product!
Pattern Name: Switch Kit Style: 50-Amp
Excellent product from Generac. I moved my critical circuits from my main panel to this transfer switch and ran cable to the exterior of my home in order to wire in a power inlet box to accept power from a portable generator when needed. I used it during a power outage recently and it worked exactly as expected! Being able to safely switch between generator power and utility power using the rocker switch on this transfer switch gives me peace of mind when I need it most. No more extension cords! I also purchased the internal upgrade for this product so that I can later purchase Generac's 10kw standby generator for automatic transfer of power from utility to generator and back again. This is specific to the Generac Homelink product which was intended to allow the homeowner to use this product with a portable generator with the possibility of upgrading to the standby generator at a later date and not having to replace the transfer switch/load center. Absolutely no regrets! Wonderful product! ... show more

  • Generac Technical Assistance is ABSOLUTELY awful.
Pattern Name: Switch Kit Style: 30-Amp
I am a builder and I have a master electrician on staff. I purchased this product and had him install it at a customer location. The installation was fairly simple although the instructions are weak. Product was installed, and was found to be defective right out of the box. I called Generac for assistance and spoke to someone who was clueless. He gave me the phone number of a local company that provides warranty service for the switch. Ha Ha. The phone number was disconnected and the company name doesn't exist on Google, nor on the State of Maine business website. Flip a coin and order; I suggest not. You have a 50/50 chance of receiving a transfer switch that is not defective out of the box. ... show more
