  • Very effective and sleek
It does a very good job, even passively, of reducing the heat of the CPU at load. Fits in perfectly on and the screws go into the screw holes very easily. If it gets hot enough to trigger the Pi firmware's fan trigger, it very quickly cools it down, so it has good airflow and fan speed. If you want the fan to be on more often, you'll have to manually change the boot configuration and restart the Pi. The TUI that does it for you has a rather high minimum temperature setting for the fan. ... show more

  • The heatsink works so well, the fan never comes on
The fan came with all necessary mounting screws, leads for the fan, and two pads for each surface. Thankfully, one was messed up so I was glad to have an automatic spare. The heat spreader covers almost the whole board. I had to make a slight modification to my case to fit it in, and when I set the fan temp to 80c, the board never got over 60c in order to make the fan turn on. the heat dissipation works amazingly well. I had to set the temp to 55c and put a big load on it to even get it that high to make sure the fan actually worked as advertised (which it did), but then set it back to 80c. I highly recommend this product, does exactly what it says and does it very well. It also came with a neat little screwdriver, which I unfortunately can't comment on the quality of as I used my own, but it was a nice little touch in case you didn't have the proper size and type of your own. ... show more

  • I like this heatsink quite a bit for use with the official 7" touch screen and AIO case.
I am using this heatsink on a 4B with the official 7" touchscreen and one of the common cases for the setup. The case doesn't have a lot of room but does have venting above the pi and not-quite-in-line with the fan. There's barely enough room for the wires behind the cover, but this heatsink is low enough profile that it fits behind and leaves enough gap for some air to move. Things I like about it: It actually fits well, leaves all the connectors accessible, and does not extend completely to the edges of the Pi PCB, which helps with fit in a lot of cases. Though it is designed to have screws threaded in from the back, there's enough space between the threaded corners of the heatsink and the boards that I was able to thread some (longer) screws through from the heatsink side and get them to clock with the threads in the standoffs for the screen. (Had this not been the case I could have drilled them out, which also would have been fine for my application.) A lot of similar heatsinks are designed to stick on, which isn't great if you're mounting the pi on its edge, or they try to "look nice" and blind drill the holes so that you can't thread them from the top into standoffs. The heatsink itself is quite effective. The fan is basically silent unless you're simply don't enable PWM, and even running full blast continuously it's not particularly loud. ... show more

  • Quiet and does the job but be careful of extra power draw
Important! Make sure your power supply can handle this. I don't know what the extra draw is but i had to use a better power supply because my USB ports stopped working when the fan was on. The product box came crushed with the flaps opened but thankfully everything was there and nothing damaged because the heatsink and hardware were inside resealable plastic bags inside the box. I know this isn't Amazon's fault because product boxes for cheap stuff from China almost always get crushed in transit to the US. As long as the product is not damaged i don't care, but something to keep in mind. On the back of the box it says it's manufactured by Shanghai Cool-Lite in China and there's just a sticker on the front with GeekPi, an ID number, and a barcode. So i'm guessing maybe you can buy this exact same kit under a different seller. Easy to install and came with an extra set of thermal pads. My RPi4 always idled at 50 C before, as reported by the temperature widget in the OS. With the fan off the heatsink doesn't change the idle temp at all, 50 C. With the fan on, it went down to 29 C. The fan is quiet but i don't want it to run constantly so i set the threshold to 55 C so that it only turns on when i'm actually using the RPi. Note that raspi-config only let's you set a minimum of 60 C so if you want to go lower you have to edit config.txt manually. If you just want the fan to always run you can also just leave the fan control disabled. While the top of the heatsink is not any higher than the USB and LAN ports, the wires are something to consider if you're using a case since they will be the highest point. Also note that the screws go in from the bottom. ... show more

  • Easy to install and very quiet
My Raspberry Pi kit came with three heat sinks and a fan, but out of the box that fan was always on and surprisingly loud. This heatsink/fan combo was a great replacement for that setup. These thermal pads are less sticky than they could be, but they stayed in place with some care. Some minor modifications to the Canakit case were needed to fit the Pi + this unit back in the case. I had to trim back a retention tab or two, and clip out the plastic brackets that held the original fan in place. All told, full installation + reinstallation in the case took fewer than 10 minutes. Afterwords a prime number search demonstrated that the included installation instructions had worked perfectly the first time. The fan turned on and off as expected, and was even surprisingly quiet, at least at lower speeds.CPU temp stayed at/bellow ... show more

  • Works great, easy to install, but with one catch.
As a heatsink and fan combo it works very well, is quiet, and easy to install. The downsize is it attaches using two of the four mounting holes on the Pi4, which and the included screws are not long enough to both mount the heatsink and mount the pi4 to something, leaving you with only two screws to mount to say a touchscreen or case. So if you plan to mount it via all four holes, you will need to buy some longer screws. ... show more

  • A great passive and active heatsink - wish they offered a case that fits it
Awesome heatsink and fan super quiet when it has to run- but they need to make a case that accommodates it - otherwise you have to modify a case for it to fit.
