  • Don’t buy this dryer
I have had problems with this dryer from the start. Had a GE repairman out prior to expiration of the 1 yr warranty. He would not approve replacement. He replaced several things, including the drum. The drum came damaged then had to be reordered then I had to get rid of the old drum. And now, the dryer isn’t even 2 years old and the rattle and thunk are back. And HE wants $839 to fix a $550 dryer that’s less than 2 years old. Or they will give me a discount for a new one. Absolutely ridiculous. Terrible quality and terrible customer service. Buyer beware. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY THIS DRYER GTD42EASJ(0, 1,2,3)WW Model Number after J can vary.
My Elderly Parent's bought this dryer end Of April, 2022. # Issue Loud Drum Noise. I called GE, was told that was a normal drum noise. No help after one week. If it got worse, call back and they would send someone out, cost to my parents would be $114.00 even if they drived in the driveway. #Issue two: June, which issue had began before but they didn't realize what was happening. Taking clothes longer to dry. I dried a set of sheet. (They only washed small loads and dried small loads of clothes maybe 3x a week). Dryer did not dry sheets. Service GE Technician came out. Cost to fix, a 2 year old dryer, $330! Really? I looked up part's, found out one of the part's is a wire kit we4937037 a $18 purple wire. It was not long ago changed due to it's inability to function. As this one is not any better. The purple wire is ran from the motor to the element, now. It melted! Burnt-Out on the end attached to element (now we know what the smell was) Did not trip our 220 that is suppose to trip nor burn out the 20 amp fuse in the dryer. Although, it had burn out the dryer light. Pictures above! It you have had this issue with any GE Dryer or Washes please Go On line to CPSC.org FILE A COMPLAINT TO SAFER PRODUCTS THROUGH THEIR WEBSITE. ... show more

  • I think it is ridiculous not to give the customer ...
I think it is ridiculous not to give the customer the choice of getting a 3-prong or 4-prong cord with the machine. Most people (male and female) would expect an electric cord to be attached to the appliance. If it is replacing an item, the purchaser would know if their outlet supported a 3-prong or 4-prong cord and could be given the suggestion to upgrade to a 4-prong if feasible. I had no idea the appliance would not come with a plug. At least offer the cord in conjunction with the purchase of the appliance. ... show more

  • Awful
A month after the one year warranty expired it stopped heating. Repair person said a melted wire caused a short and that he's seen this many times with GE dryers - that it's a common problem. Great. Also dangerous. $140 later he fixed with a sturdy wire and it was working again. A month later same issue, this time it was the heating element. The total cost of the repair would've been $450. Forget it. Sadly we're tossing the dryer and purchasing another brand. This poor quality item lasted 13 months. Ridiculous. ... show more
